At the start of the year my boyfriend named this year #Xtreme13. When he said it his thinking was a year for us to do things outside of our box, outside of our comfort zone and explore some unknown things. While we set out to do just that this year we didn’t know just how #Xtreme this year would be.
We experienced a lot of death this year – His Grandmother (February), 3 of his boys (2 of them died together and the other just two days later – May), my Aunt (age 52 – July), and a few High School classmates.
This summer he was furloughed a couple days a month as were many employees of the Federal Government. Thanks to my agency we were exempt from this go around.
August 11th I started my own small business called From Mi To You. In four short months we have already achieved so much; and we were featured on Fox 5 Morning News. I am so proud of the support from my family, friends, and coworkers. 2014 Will be even bigger and better for us.
There was a mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard (My Babe’s place of employment). Not only did someone shoot up the Navy Yard they shot up building #197. The very building he has entered every day for the past 10 years to do his job. As a result 12 people died and many injured. CRAZY!!!
Then October 1st Congress failed to secure a vote that would prevent the Federal Government from a shut down. Me and thousands of others were home on furlough unpaid for 16 days. They did give us back pay when we returned, so it turned out to be a free vacation and I soooo enjoyed it.
Sunday, October 27th my Babe set out to run his very first marathon. He was amongst 30,000 + runner that participated in this year’s Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC. Talk about #Xtreme, now that is some serious power in the spoken word. 26.2 miles in the bank and he is #CERTIFIED
November 4th I was walking home from the Metro and talking on the phone to my Babe. As a typical couple with children we discussed picking up the kids and that I was going to fry some chicken for dinner. Next thing I know a jackass runs up to me snatches my cell phone from my ear leaving a scratch on my face and takes off running. ASSHOLE! I hear these types of stories on the news but you never actually think it’s going to happen to you. Well it did, and I aint been right since.
This year alone I’ve done things I thought I would never do, but I had a blast and look forwarding to doing more in 2014. Those that know me never thought they would hear my name and trapeze, scuba diving, Glo Run 5k, hiking, bike to work, mud run, electric run, run amuck, and a few other things in the same sentence.
I’m proud to say I’ve made my box so big it can no longer confine me. #wonthedoit
