I've been meaning to write this particular blog for some time but realized I hadn't taken the pictures that I needed to do it justice. I've finally gotten my act together and so here it is. One day back in March/April I was reading one of my favorite mommy blogs Mom2y6pack and she mentioned another mommy blog that makes jewelry. TheVintagePearl was the name and the blog was very cute but the jewelry was even better. I browsed the entire site and immediately thought this was the answer to my mom's Mother's Day gift. I love anything customized/personalized and my mom has been wanting something like this for some time. My first order was a necklace for my mother. It was two hollow circles one slightly larger than the other. On the big outer ring was mine and my sisters first name. On the inner hollow circle were the names of my niece and my son. I was pumped up about my order yet nervous at the same time. I hadn't thought of a plan b gift if this didn't work out. Rest assure I received it a few weeks later and it was a beauty. It came in a little small draw string mesh bag with a tiny silver cleaning cloth. The package was really cute and simply most importantly it was gift ready. LOVE IT!
Yesterday as I was walking to the Metro (Subway) I got to thinking about life and love. Random I know but that's how this brain of mine works. In my thinking I put love in two categories. a.) you are in love with your significant other and loving and affectionate.
b.) you show your love by being a great provider and parent.
I then thought of the couples I know and placed them into one of the above categories; of course this is based on my own opinion using what I know about them and how they interact with one another. Naturally I know more about some more than others, but that's what made my thoughts even more interesting. Either way I was really intrigued by this thinking and sought out some opinions and thoughts from others.
Anyone that knows me knows I like funky and different things. Either I make them, stumble upon them or simply seek them out. Well one night I was OEF'ing (read browsing the inter webs) on Fotki natural hair albums. I came across this girl with some hot earrings on; picture after picture I saw bold, creative, and funky styles. I had to know where she got them from. She told me a place called Nappy Rutz. Oh word! Nappy Rutz creates
I was on a quest to find some super cute aqua socks. I began to Google search to find something cute and stylish. You know how I do! In my search I came across Vibram Five Fingers they are shoes that look like toe socks. Sweet I know, so I find a City Sports (2 blocks from my job) that sells them. I go in and check them out. What do I see a PINK PAIR! I immediately try them on and OMG it was heaven right here on earth. I purchased them and the craze began. I rocked them in Target and people would stop and ask me questions. Others would just point and talk about them amongst themselves. It's really funny to see how people respond to them. The comfort is amazing; it really does feel like you are barefoot. You have a thin piece of rubber under the bottom and even that's designed really cute like. I wear toe socks in the winter so I had no problems adjusting to my toes being separated; for others that might take some getting used to. I can't wait to sport them on the beach.
Most of the people that know me know just how crazy I am. Well this blog is a testament to such foolishness I love to indulge in. My boo (Bri)…
Back in the day I was featured on Black Girl Long Hair blog. This feature is for the Natural Hair Style Icon, I'm honored to be considered that. Those many…
Three Mother's Days in a row I have attended a tea with my mother and sister. Over those years I got the tea party itch and wanted to host a tea of my own. In 2006 I purchased my own tea set and let me tell you it is a beauty. The theme of my set is butterflies, but they are so tiny I won't actually use them. From then I began to shop around for all of the perfect accessories to coordinate nicely with my set. As luck would have it I found the perfect bowl and plate from Target. I found other random accessories from Home Goods, Michael's and any other spots that had something butterfly-esque. Well five years later my time came and LADIES & GENTLEMEN I hosted my very first tea. For those that know me know I'm a lover of all things creative, crafts and planning. So I decided I would host a Post Mother's Day brunch since I was out of town on Mother's Day. I assembled my guest list, confirmed their availability and sent out my invitations. So I sent out five invitations, each a different color, each with a different butterfly. Here I captured each butterfly so you can see how they looked. I put in one full copy so you can visualize how each were styled different but looked the same.
The inter-webs have been around since the late 90's. We all remember dialing up AOL to get a connection. Remember the sound it made ha! Now 10+ years later the internet has evolved to what we see today. Since its inception there has been no secret that what you put out there is THERE FOREVER! No, you can't take it back and yes there is always a record not to mention you never know who will stumble upon it. With that said I still see repeat offenders surfing the webs. Yes in 2010 we still have people putting all their personal business out there for the masses. Social networking websites are probably among-st the most popular on the internet. Most popular right now are MySpace and Facebook. I've not been on MySpace in some years so my specifics are all things I've seen and or read on Facebook. I will not include names because my intent isn't to be messy. HOWEVER I've not made any of this up. Before I delve into some specifics let's start with some facts. Per Merriam-Webster.com here are a few facts.
As we begin the early stages of getting ready for kindergarten I was on a mission to find the perfect dentist for my son. The other dentist was the only one in his practice and not available to my liking. My co-worker told me about her daughter's dentist. Neibauer Dental, I go online and I'm impressed right away. I see two Black doctors, two Asian doctors, a Middle Eastern doctor and few white doctors. My first thought it YES DIVERSITY!!! Then I see they are open seven days a week. WHO DOES THAT?!? I call the location of my choosing and the person on the other end was really friendly and had an available appointment within two days. SWEET! My 5 year old loves the dentist so I had no worries in that regard. However I was curious to see if "all that glitters is gold". We arrived a little early do all of the first time patient paperwork and wait our turn. About 10 minutes later they call us back. The young lady was really friendly and made small talk with my son. She puts him in the chair and asks him what cartoons he likes.
