A Nest for Nori Michelle

gray baby nursery

I've been meaning to write this blog since I was pregnant and decorating the nursery for my baby girl. Well life happened and my baby girl is now 6 months and I'm just getting to write this blog. There are several little things I still need to add but here goes. Inspiration for the room: I wanted bold colors because I'm not a fan of pastels.  My Babe didn't want a "pink princess palace" (my favorite color is hot pink). We both wanted a modern nursery that could easily be a toddler's room as well. I didn't want something all matchy-matchy and I wanted to utilize different prints and bring them all together. With those things in mind I set out to create the ideal world for our little girl.  I finally decided I wanted the colors to be grey white and yellow with splashes of hot pink.

Lemon Plum?

Have you ever heard of a lemon plum or better yet had one? ME EITHER; until today that is. The same reaction you had while reading this is the exact reaction I had when I saw them in the store.  I couldn't wait to get home and go to “the Google” as I simply needed to know more about this fruit I was strolling around the produce section of my local Safeway when I saw a sign that said LEMON PLUMS. I say out loud “Umm excuse me”. I point them out to my mother who is from the South and as far as I’m concerned knows all things country. Well she hadn't heard or seen such a thing either. HOW COULD THIS BE POSSIBLE!

HELLO 2012

Happy New Year 2012
A new year is upon us as while the last several years have been good to me I'm really looking forward to this one. For 2011 I had two main goals (one professional and one personal) the first was accomplished in April 2011 and the second was accomplished November 2011. Check and check!!! I'm not big fan of "resolutions" as I believe we should all strive to be better people on a daily basis. You don't need a "new year" to make that happen.  Goals are healthy and I think it helps keep things in perspective.  This year I've set two professional goals and two personal goals.

Summer Wrap – Miami, Puerto Rico and more

I haven't posted a new blog since the spring, so I thought I would do a summer wrap up. May: I kicked my summer off with a girl's trip to South Beach, Miami. The weather was perfect, the sky was clear, the beach was refreshing and the morning sunrise on the roof of the hotel was breathtaking, and the food was OUTSTANDING!! We had the best hotel view ever and prime picking for people watching. We even had a few celebrity sightings Ciara, Raheem Devaughn, R.L., Floyd Mayweather, and Amare Stoudemire.

2nd Annual Mother’s Day Tea

It is that time of year, the time that we honor our Mothers, Grandmother's, God Mother's and Mother figures. It is MOTHER'S DAY! It is my annual tradition to host a Tea Party. Last Year's Tea was a blast, while it was my first it turned out rather nicely. This year I had even more ideas on how to improve upon my tea party. There were a few things I wanted to incorporate this year but I had a lot going (I was taking swimming lesson) on and I didn't get to all the tiny details.  All of my guest enjoyed the set up and had a really good time. I can't wait to make it even better next year.

Stop The World

Last summer my Babe and I went to see Jill Scott & Maxwell in concert in Madison Square Gardens. Now I've been to several concerts but for some reason since June 2010 that concert has continued to play over in my mind. This was the first time I'd ever seen either one of them live. WHAT A SHOW!!!! Jill & Maxwell both sang their hits; they have a lot of hits too. Maxwell's most current album "BLACKSummers'night" was an instant classic for me. This past week I've been playing it over and over again while commuting to and from work. My single most favored-est song on that album is "Stop the World". I don't know what it is about that song that conjures up such emotions on the inside. I have to consciously not sing OUT LOUD while listening to the song on the train. Folks would start looking at me like I'd lost my whole entire mind. It's a song that makes you close your eyes, bite your lips, slowly rock from side to side and smile for no reason at all.

Hey Mr. DJ a soundtrack to life

I like many others love a good story; in my short 31 years of life I’ve managed to create a lot of stories. Stories that are funny, crazy, sad, magical, and simply classic. The sweet thing in life is we have so many triggers. Triggers that will instantly take you back to a place… it could be a song, a show, a location, anything. “Occasions” by Baby Face reminds me of my first slow dance when I was in the third grade. (Don’t judge me). “All I Do is Think of You” by Troop reminds me of my sister and cousins growing up together. We used to stand in front of the TV and sing along as loud as we could. “Get Low” by Lil John was the soundtrack to my party life in my early 20’s. “Prototype” by Outkast reminds me of my Babe, back in 2004 when we were just getting to know one another.
