Capitol Bacon Festival #CBF2014

Now this is what dreams are made of; bacon, bacon, bacon, BACON! My bestie Bri sent me a link to the Capitol Bacon Festival asking me if I was down. Um heck yeah, bacon makes everything better. I’ve never been to a bacon festival and I didn’t know what to expect but we had a blast. One block away from here is the Vegan Fest, for whatever reason that makes me giggle like a school girl. Perfect timing right? Totally!
The National’s baseball team had a home game, and the Vegan Fest and the Capitol Bacon Fest were also on the same block. The limited parking was extra limited. I rode around several times but finally lucked up on this cute couple coming out. GLO-RAY! The lady got out and gave me their parking ticket which was good for 2 more hours. PRAISE BREAK! I gave them gracious thanks and waited for them to pull out of the parking spot. I didn’t ask but I bet they were coming from the Vegan Fest. hahahahaha

They had a lot of things to sample, other food items you could buy and some of the regular food trucks were there with bacon friendly items on their menu. This is the sample menu.

I’m going to start with my favorite things.

This fried bacon wrap shrimp roll was absolute joy in my mouth. Dumpling Dojo so got it right.

Candied Bacon – Yes Lord! This wasn’t in the sample section. We caught the end the candied bacon demonstration. Late but clearly right on time. This right here I’ve got to try at home.

It was so good I had to take notes on the paper so I didn’t forget. Like to hear it, hear it go. Bacon + brown sugar + sugar in the raw + 2 pinches of red peppers. Bake on 350 for 15 minutes, longer if needed but check after the first 15 mins.

It should look just like this before you put it in the oven. Combine your ingredients and then rub it on the bacon while laid out in your pan.

Carolina BBQ Bacon – This was really good, it was a bit spicy and sweet at the same damn time.

Jack-ed Maple Bacon Ice Cream, yes Jack Daniel’s, bacon and ice cream. Scoops2U was on to something with this majestic creation. It might sound strange to sum but it was very reminiscent of Butter Pecan.

The bacon mac and cheese was really good, it was the first thing I had. I didn’t snap a picture because I was so busy digging into the cup.

We sampled all three of these bacon jams. {Original, Black Pepper & Red Chile & Garlic) I wasn’t feeling this at first and even after he put it on my spoon I wasn’t sure I wanted it in my mouth. Since I was here for the experience I gave them all a try. The original and Red Chile & Garlic were the best. They don’t taste jam like jelly but more jam/sauce like BBQ sauce. This on some baked chicken would be everything.
We tried the Bacon Chili Dog but failed to snap a picture. The funniest part about this is the dog itself didn’t have chili, cheese or bacon on it. Yet when you took a bite of it you could taste each flavor in your mouth. All of these things were in the actual make up the hot dog. Yum!

Bacon on a Stick Double Smoked: This was my least favorite of the day. It was fatty and I don’t dig that part of bacon. You could taste the smoke but not a this is amazing type of way. I could have saved my ticket with this one.

Bacon Maple Funnel Cake – We didn’t try it but folks were tearing it up.
capitol bacon festival 3
Smoked Turkey Legs w/ Bacon – They had full strips of bacon on these thangs.

  8. Kemkem

Some of these actually look yummy and that’s saying a lot as l’m not a huge fan of bacon unless it’s almost burnt to a crisp. I however, love it wrapped in shrimp, and the ice cream looks good too 🙂

  9. Chelsea

I don’t eat meat or dairy. However, I have a few friends from Texas that I know would LOVE to attend something like this, lol.

  10. nadeen

I agree! Bacon makes everything better! We have a bacon fest here in Atlanta also and I’m hoping to finally go this year! I would try almost everything on this list except the bacon funnel cake. That looks like a heart attack on a stick! I do love candied bacon thou. How dare you post a pic of your skinny self after all those fattening food pics? lol

  11. Tione

Wow! I never knew they had such an event. I find bacon a little bit too salty for my taste buds, so I’m not a huge fan of eating bacon.

  12. Jay Colby

This sounds like an amazing festival. Combining two things I love bacon and food.

  13. Stacie

I have a friend that is crazy about bacon. I enjoy it myself and I like making brown sugar bacon from time to time.

  14. LC @ A Life of Authenticity

  20. Danielle

I love bacon! I lose all control when it’s in my presence! This looks lovely, but I don’t know if it would be wise for me to attend an event such as this! lol

  21. Ayak

Never really ate pork prior to going vegan, but I must say your writing style made this post enjoyable to read. I actually cracked up at PRAISE BREAK! lol.
To this day I can’t work out why people put bacon in ice cream, is it a US thing?…
