Dirty Little Secrets for the end of Summer

Growing up summer seemed like such a long time, as a parent it seems way to short. I feel robbed, those 10 weeks come and go before you've done all that you planned to do back in June.  The reality is summer is over, the temps have been cooler in the DMV area and school starts in two days. Even though we purchased new school uniforms a few weeks ago we {the parents} still weren't ready to let summer go. So we decided to have a little last days of summer fun before we are back to signing 25 forms the first week of school, fighting over homework, staying up way too late working on school projects and getting back to our early to bed, early to rise routine. So this is what we did...

Chrisette Michele Rich Hipster & MimiCuteLips

The talented Grammy Award winning singer-song writer Chrisette Michele hosted a Press Conference with a bunch of her fave bloggers. {Her words not mine. lol} MimiCuteLips was one of them. {Insert The Jefferson's theme song here} Last week Chrisette launched Rich Hipster; it's her blog space to display more outside of the box type of things. It will give you a peek into who she really is as a person while still connecting her music, style, art and journey to vegan-ism.

The Naturalista Hair Show Recap #iAmN

This weekend the Naturalista Hair Show took over Silver Spring, MD for two days. They had speaking panels, vendors, a pop up salon, fashion show and my favorite hands on classes.  There were hairstyles for days all up in there. Color, not colored, long, short, loc, twist, two strands, TWAs, you name it I saw it. When I arrived there was a line of folks, I checked in and got a program and this cute VIP Box.

I popped my Cherry #BlogHer14 Style!

My BFF and I impulsively planned to go to BlogHer in October of last year. In five minutes we had purchased our conference tickets, booked a flight and hotel. Done! We were all set, with nine months to wait. hahahahaha Finally the time had come and we were excited. The kickoff party was on Thursday it was a Selfiebration and the first full day of conference was on Friday. The big day was on Saturday, Arianna Huffington and Kerry Washington were both speaking. MAJOR! To top that off Rev. Run of RUN-DMC was hosting the close out party. WHAT!!! Now let's break down the trip as it really played out, it was a total adventure. I'm going to skip the part where we were supposed to fly from L.A. to San Jose only we missed our crop duster but managed to get on a flight to San Fran at no additional cost. SCORE!

We were born with boobs so shouldn’t we use them?

Hey Cuties,

It is Black Breastfeeding week and I'm talking about breastfeeding, it is such a controversial topic. There was a recent headline about a college graduate snapping a picture while breast feeding her 3 month old during her graduation ceremony. It went viral and everyone had something to say about it. Good or bad, they were standing in their  truth I suppose. For whatever reason breastfeeding has always been a part of the Mommy Wars. I realize that breastfeeding isn't for everyone but why is something so natural complained about so much? Many non-American cultures breastfeed and they are celebrated not shamed. (Read the comments of online articles and you will see exactly what I mean.)

NewsBabes Bash for Breast Cancer

Sometimes you just have to act on impulse... that is exactly what I did. I was sitting at my desk on Thursday morning and I came across the 6th Annual Newsbabes Bash for Breast Cancer advertisement. On it was a lot of amazing women in media, Dr. Jill Biden was the speaker and it was in support of Breast Cancer. Well yall already know my Mom is a breast cancer survivor as I've shared her story HERE. My business From Mi To You has been featured on Fox 5 twice now. How incredible is it to see the Vice President's wife speak on a topic that is also near and dear to her heart.
I check the website to see if they had tickets available and they did. JACKPOT! I told my Babe I wanted to go but I wouldn't do it until he told me "well you should go" for some reason I just needed to hear those words. Then everything simply fell into place.
