One of my goals for 2015 was to get back in shape. Whenever I mention exercise or working out I get dismissive expressions followed by rude commentary along the lines of “I wish I had your problem”, “Whatever!”, “What are you exercising for?” SO I DON’T DIE YOUR RUDENESS! Just because your struggle isn’t my struggle doesn’t mean it isn’t a struggle.
I’ve been skinny all my life and for some folks they mask their jealousy by teasing me. I’ve have people say “I like having a grown woman’s body.” Well damn it so do I, I was born a female and have been a woman all my life. I’ve carried and birthed two kids and then breastfeed them for 14 months each. If that isn’t a woman’s body I don’t know what is.
In 2013 I started participating in what we called #xtreme13 this was a challenge to step outside of our box. For me it was about breaking into unconventional exercise. I did trapeze, scuba diving, fun runs here, here, and here and biking. In 2014 I kept that theme going I continued with the fun runs (3 miles) and started running during my lunch hour. I would run 3 miles around downtown D.C. I started with my co-worker and he would encourage me every step of the way. Random strangers I ran past in the city would encourage me, cat call and talk junk. It was hilarious and it helped me to keep going. I got to a point where I was running on my own, my personal best was 3 miles in 30 minutes.
Fall came and well I started eating more, it got too cold to run outside and I stopped workout. Although I was putting in work at the breakfast, lunch and dinner tables. In comes 2015 and I decide I have to get back on track. I allowed my Babe to talk me into doing Shaun T’s Insanity work out. I’ve been sharing my progress on FB and Instagram. If you aren’t following me you totally should.
I’m on Day 8 (the first time I tried I quit at day 6 two years ago) and I’m still going. It’s a 60 day work out and I plan to finish. Yall think I’m skinny now just wait until I finish I will have muscles too. I have two busy kids and an athletic man I need to keep up with.
GOALS: 1. Maintain my weight 2. A healthy heart 3. A flat stomach 4. Make it to day 60 of Insanity 5. To wear crop tops all summer.
Since working out I’ve noticed I am starving after my work out, my snack of choice is Granny Smith Apples & Peanut-butter. Then I have dinner and sometimes dessert. The amazing sleep I get every single night is AMAZING!
