Snapping out of your funk

Hey Cuties,

I’ve been in a bit of a funk as of late and I’m not 100% sure why. I had been trying to get my fat eating habits together and I was doing pretty well. I was drinking 64 ounces of water a day and using the bathroom like Sea biscuit. For lunch I was getting my very addictive Grilled Chicken Cesar Salad from Chopt. Then all hell broke loose in the office yesterday. I declared myself an emotional eater and took my emotional behind to Five Guys. It is only 2 blocks from my office, block one no problem, block 2 torrential down pour. I had on my cute pencil skirt and did not even care about the rain. My attitude was all the way funky. hahaha Shout out to the little bacon cheeseburger, Cajun fries and vanilla root beer soda that made me feel better. #FatSnacks

This bottle is 32oz. and I need 64oz a day. I added the time stamps to help me stay on track.

I vowed that today would be better. All systems were a go until the credit union called as I was walking out of the door. “Oh, okay someone used my account and spent up $300 worth of some got damn flowers and you need to deactivate my card and I need to wait until the transactions clear before I can dispute them? GREAT!” {You must read that entire run on sentence without pause of breath for dramatic purposes.}  Immediate stank attitude ensued. You know because who smiles at the idea of having no cash and no card. There goes lunch time retail therapy to make all things wrong in my life right. I will need a sponsor for lunch. Life is so funny I ended up burning myself with boiling hot water when I got to work. NICE!

Mini Chewy Sweet Tarts = Food for the soul!

Despite my now two days of funk and terribly bad karma. WHAT DID I EVEN DO? I’m going to force myself to deal with the real root of my issues. Last week I attended the Bossed Up’s 2nd Annual Boss of the Year Party! I wasn’t even familiar with the organization but decided to attend the event. I had an amazing time and connected with folks that had amazing spirits. They were all talking about their passions and dreams and it made me realize I’d kind of tossed mine by the wayside.  I’m going to push myself outside of my comfort zones and find my passion and my purpose.

What I wore to the Bossed Up Event – Dress: H&M Shoes: Coach

I am 35 years & 9 months old and I’ve NEVER traveled alone. {Don’t judge me.} Next week that all changes, I’m going to a city that I love and travel to frequently. Only this time I’m going alone; while I’m excited I totally have some anxiety about it. Yet I feel liberated at the thought of it all.  I can’t wait to tell you about it, make sure you’re following me on IG so you can see the haps in real time.

i’ve in a bit of a funk for the same reason. People all around me seem to be on their grind then I have to remember that everything for them isn’t what it seems and my walk is just that.

I get out my funk by spilling my feelings out to my friends. I love their honest input and it gives me some place to start in moving forward. Nothing like good friends.

    • MimiCuteLips

It seems I’ve been in and out of my funk. I’m trying to figure it out and get it together. I don’t think I’m doing such a great job though. I don’t know how to snap out of it.

  2. lisa @bitesforbabies

We all get in these moods from time to time…I am SO lucky to have such a great support system. My friends, and especially my mom are great listeners and always let me vent when I need to 😉

  3. Neha Sultan

Loved the post. I am not exactly a funk but I do not travel alone at 31 just because I am so emotionally and heavily dependent on hubby that I drag him along every where lol I guess it is different with everyone. I need to get something interesting in my life, yours seem fun. Loved the dress you wore to Boss event.

    • MimiCuteLips

Thanks Neha, I was missing out on things because I didn’t have a +1. Right before 35 I decided to no longer do that. I must say the adventure has been a lot of fun. I’ve learned so much more about myself in the process.

  4. Jeannette

Sounds like you have a good reason to be in a funk! I would freak out about those charges and them telling you that you have to wait! Good luck getting it all straightened out!

  5. Holly

I think we all get in a funk every now and again. I’m glad certain things brought your spirits up.

  6. Tracy @ Ascending Butterfly

“I was drinking 64 ounces of water a day and using the bathroom like Sea biscuit.” <-Almost fell out my chair laughing!

Sorry about your card though I have had that happen to me and it's NOT cute!

I'm glad the event made you evaluate where you are and where you are going and I'm excited to hear you are going to travel alone. My first ever trip was international and by myself and I was very young and I wouldn't change one moment of it for a single solitary second.

I hope you come back from your trip feeling like you have the world by the balls! #GETITGIRL

I have been in a funk too! AND I’ve talked to a lot of people who say the same thing…maybe we’re being biologically terrorized lol. Who knows?! I LOVE Sweet Tarts but not the chewy ones! I could eat a whole bag. That sucks about your card being charged. My friend had the same thing happen a couple of weeks ago and it was for some weird company….it sucks!

  8. Tanay

Definitely fat snacks! I am an emotional eater thank god I still have somewhat of a good metabolism! My go-to statement when I’m feeling stressed out is “I need a snack!” Lmao!

  9. Stacie @ Divine Lifestyle

You look absolutely gorgeous in that outfit. Sometimes, I need to get all dolled up to get out of my funk. Especially when I’ve been working extra hard and wearing the sweats for too long.

  10. lisa

I’ve been in a funk for most of this crappy summer. I think the fall weather is to blame, but I always feel better when I work out and buy a new article of clothing.

  11. Chubskulit Rose

I don’t blame you on feeling anxious about traveling alone. I only traveled alone once when I left my country but since that, I have been traveling with my husbnd and kids. You rock that look by the way!

  12. Echo

Believe me, I know ALL about getting into a funk. In fact, I often let it happen more than I should, I also medicate my funk. Usually with Taco Bell, fancy iced coffees and ice cream!

  13. Stacie

Girlfriend, I know how it is to get in a funk. Your tips are on point though. And your dress? Hun-ty you look great!

  14. Tia

Enjoy your trip. Although I do not prefer to travel alone, I always learn so much about myself when I do. I also never usually end up along because I always end up talking to strangers and making new friends along the way. I cannot wait to hear about your experience when you return, realax and have fun!

    • MimiCuteLips

Tia, I think I’m at a stage in life where I want to know more about me. I’m a people person so I make friends everywhere I go as well.

  15. Uplifting Families

I hope things get better. The whole thing with someone using your bank account to splurge stjnks. This happened to us one time. My husband saw a charge for perfume and asked me if it was mine. I’m nope, I don’t wear it because it bothers my allergies too much. He thought it was a fluke until walmart called asking if he just bought a computer online. Nope. Thankfully, the retailer/bank caught it before they shipped it. Most catch it because the address doesn’t match the card.

I hope you enjoy traveling alone and that your able to relax so that you can enjoy it.

  16. Nicole

Sorry to hear about your card. I had Tha happen to me about 3 months ago except I had 3 transactions for $300 each. When get in a funk I withdraw from people.

  17. Kita

I have been in a funk the entire summer. I don’t know what it is but I need a vacation with me myself and I no kids and no other people. I have traveled alone but would meet up with others. I have never ever been alone the entire time so no judgement from me.

  18. Ourfamilyworld

I love your outfit! I’m sorry to hear about your credit card, I hope all is ok now. I’m an emotional eater, too, so when I’m feeling down, I turn to food.

  19. Joanne T Ferguson

I’m going to be 52 and I have never traveled alone, so I would be the last person to judge you! It is not like I don’t want to! One day, I guess the opportunity may present itself and I will be able to achieve this! For now, I am happy like I am!

  20. Jeanine

You look amazing in that outfit, so very pretty. I think we all have these moods and funks. I find if I eat too much junk, or don’t get enough sleep I’m in a major funk for the day.

  21. HilLesha

I have never traveled alone before either. It sounds like an exciting yet scary experience at the same time, especially for a woman! I do want to try it someday, though. 🙂

  22. Jessica Simms

I’ve been in a funk lately to, I’m not sure of the reasons but it could be the withdraw from all of the yummy foods I used to eat and can’t now cause of my diet. I hadn’t traveled alone either until last April and it was honestly not as scary as I thought it was going to be. It was a rush of excitement. I’m excited to see how your trip goes and some pictures of course!

  23. Robin (Masshole Mommy)

While I can’t say that I am currently in any type of funk, I have certainly had days like the ones you are currently having. Sometimes you just have to put your head down and keep driving forward.

  24. Roch

I think many people are just so confined with their everyday work and they don’t have time to travel. Maybe time will come for you when you can feel super free and won’t have hesitations about traveling even to farther away places.

  25. Rosey

Good luck to you. I hope you have the time of your life! I have traveled alone, but it’s been a lot of years since that time!

  26. Lynndee

I’ve never traveled alone myself and I’m 39. Just didn’t have the opportunity or chance yet. 🙂 Anyway, love that dress. It’s pretty! And your shoes are sexy!

  27. Patrice

I have had some of those days too… but learn a long time to have hope and keep going. looked at traveling alone as great adventure getting to know yourself. Keep me posted about your journey Just do it not at all fearful.

  28. MJ

I tend to run to food and snacks. But I’m trying to express my feelings more and talk it out with my peeps.

When I workout I always feel better

  29. Aisha Adams

I get in funks too. I am vegan and normally just go fried stuff… I have been trying to control myself.

  30. Ann B

This dtess looks amazing on you. I love yhe water bottle idea. I will have to make one for myself.

  31. Jay'L Harris

I love this article. I can relate so much. I can’t wait to hear about your adventures alone in a big city!!! To answer your question, I eat chips and ice cream. They are my go to feel good foods.

  32. Adanna

Wow! Girl, I know those days when the fat snacks take real good care of the soul LOL I get in a funk ever so often. Thankfully, not much this year but my number one thing to do is pray. I also like making sense of everything on paper. It just makes me feel so much better. Yay on traveling alone, I’ve never done it but as a mom I can see why you would be excited. Enjoy!

  33. CourtneyLynne

I’ve been in a funk lately myself! I did some online shopping the other day & have a hair appointment for later this week and hoping that and maybe some plans with friends will snap me right out of this!

  34. Gabriel

My go to thought to put things in perspective is to remind myself that at least I’m out of the Army and not deployed to a place 6000 miles from home where 1/2 the people I see want to kill me. It used to work a lot better, but now my mind comes back with – at least then you didn’t have to worry about paying the electric or mortgage…

  35. Skye Charlie

Hey Mimi thanks for sharing. As I write this I’m going to ditch my work desk and walk about 4 blocks to window shop at one of my favorite consignment stores. Yes, I’m in a funk lol. Thanks for sharing and affirming that things will be ok. I appreciate it!

  36. AC Mims

I ain’t got ta lie– fat snacks all the way. Actually, more like cheese grits from Pappadeaux’s. I need comfort food. After I get that fix, then I make sure to take some me time to recharge. I have to shut out the world and just BE (I’m an introvert). I try to find out what’ causing the energy leak and respond accordingly. Sometimes I need more sleep, sometimes I need church, sometimes I need to unplug. Talking to my tribe also helps because they are candid and will tell me what they observe my issue being.

  37. Martine

LOVE this post. #FatSnacks is often my go-to but traveling alone sounds like a much better idea (can I at least have one fat snack on the trip?). Can’t wait to hear about your trip. I think I need to plan one for myself!

  38. Katie Reed

When I am in a funk I go for snacks and music. Music can always make me feel good and snacks do the same. Too bad the snacks aren’t as good for me as the music is.

  39. aly mashrah

I’ve been in a funk before and I usually love to force myself to exercise, do things I love like knit or go for a walk, listen to good music. I hope you have a good trip!

  40. Kara

It must be something in the air because I swear I feel the funk as well. I won’t say its karma, sometimes people just need to shake the negative energy off. Hope your travels brings you better vibes, Enjoy your trip Mimi!!

When I’m in a funk, I depend on good music and the fresh air. I would go to a park or something full of nature, just sit there for a while, listen to music and look around. Then I get whatever encouragement or positive vibes just by doing that. But if I’m away from nature, I would go for a dine out or an ice cream.
