Hey Cuties,
I hope you had a dope weekend. Mine was busy but a lot of fun. We did a Trick or Treat event at the National Harbor with the littlest Cutie on Saturday followed by a Halloween Housewarming. On Sunday I graced the studio of WBALTV in Baltimore, MD. My segment was on *drum roll* DIY Halloween Costumes. I had a blast, I need to get my face on TV more often, I felt right at home.
What you need:
Tulle {Any colors of your choice} – Ribbon or Elastic – Suspenders – Funky Socks – Red Lipstick
Making a tutu is so easy, you just need time. For me I put on a show/movie and get to working. Before I know it I am finished.
Step 1: Cut strips of tulle at your desired length. To measure roll out your tulle and hold it up to your waist and down to the length you want. Once you have the desired length cut your strips twice as long. Remember: You will fold those trips in half.
Step 2: Cut a bunch of strips at your desired length.
Step 3: Base: I used a ribbon as the base of my tutu. You can use cord, ribbon, elastic, whatever you want. Whatever you go with hold it up around your waist so you know how much you need. Note: Make it longer you can clip the extra at the end. If it is short you will have to do more work to fix it.
Step 4: {See image above} You are going to use a Larks Head Knot to secure your tulle to your base. If you aren’t sure what that is Google it. It is very easy to do.
Step 5: Keep doing it until you are done. I take breaks and try it on myself or the kid to see how far around I need to go. The tighter the tulle is together the fuller it will turn out.
Step 6: Put the tutu on and tie it close.
Once your tutu is complete it should look something like this. I paired it with some funky socks and a sweat shirt. You are clown so you don’t have to go all matchy-matchy. Now let’s talk suspenders.
I made this bow out of ribbon I already had. I also owned all of these buttons. Tip: You can get fun buttons from your local craft store or the thrift store.
You can get any kind of funky socks. Tip: You can buy socks, you can use mix-match socks, you can use adult socks on kids. I paired her funky socks with some funky shoe strings I already owned and a Splatter paint pair of Custom Kicks by Mimi. She already owned these sneakers so they were a no brainer.
I put a pair of stripped leggings under her tutu. She already owned them. Tip: If it is cold outside layer up under the tutu and pull funky socks up over the knee.
We loved the way her costume turned and she was really comfy in it.
