Happy Halloween Cuties,
I hope you and the little Cuties have decided on a costume and you all are just waiting for it to get dark. I’m sharing my Monster DIY Halloween costume with you as promised. If you saw my last post on the DIY Clown Costume then you saw this one featured in the news segment. This one is probably the easiest of them all. There is no template and no wrong way to create your Monster. As always my costumes have a sew and no sew options.
Just like the Wolf & Owl Costumes I started out with a hooded sweat shirt and felt.
Let’s start with the sleeves, because this hoodie had two tones on the sleeve I decided to add octopus like circles down the middle. I used a random item in my house and traced circles on the felt. Then I used a regular single hole punch and put the holes in the middle. Sew: Use a quick stitch to secure each circle. No Sew: Use fabric glue or hot glue gun to secure each circle.
For the body I used a candle to make my large circles and randomly place them on the hoodie. I free handed the tongue and just attached it to the collar.
Every monster needs teeth, so I attached some to the hood. Again I stitched them by hand but glue works as well. Eyes: I purchased these from the craft store and I hot glued them on. The backs are cardboard and I didn’t want any trouble so glue was the best option. Tentacles: I randomly cut out a shape that I thought would look good. This is a monster so don’t be afraid to be creative. You will need a total of four shapes all together. Each one needs a front and back, I stuffed mine with leftover felt, you can do that or use cotton balls.
This is a full look at my finished project. This hoodie is a boys Small 5/6. I didn’t do the back but you totally could.
I loved the way it turned out and my scary model loved it as well. He did such a great job on the news segment. Shout out to The Style Medic for allowing me to borrow her little Cutie.
This Monster costume was featured on WBALTV in Baltimore, MD. This segment aired on Oct. 25th.
