Christmas in New York

Hey Cuties,

How was the weekend? Are you still shopping, just starting or flat out over the holidays? Have you put in your vacation leave for the rest of the year? I’m counting down my last few days in the office until the New Year. Last week I hit up New York to check out some eats, shopping and the beautiful holiday decor. I typically go in the warmer months but the holiday decor is really something to experience.

The Style Medic and I set out for New York City after I wrapped up my news segment.  We drove a cute Hyundai, Elantra that was perfect for our weekend getaway. We stayed in New Jersey and that was another adventure. This is a first for me and likely my last.

Public Transit

We hopped on the shuttle at our crazy hotel and it took us to the N.J. airport. After roaming around that place a bit we took the tram to the bus area.  We arrived, located the bus stop then realized we had no cash. Hit up some janky ATM  then needed change to get on the bus. #FailToPlan Cabby #1 wasn’t giving us change if we weren’t going for a ride. REALLY SIR! Cabby #2 was a hit, he gave us change, problem is it doesn’t cost $5.00 for two people to ride the bus.  The bus arrives, we get on with the five dollar bill, but the ride only cost $3.00. The bus driver kindly let us know we should be prepared and he doesn’t make change. His tone was real parent like towards a teenager; like teens we were un-bothered. We apologized, laughed and kept it pushing. This nice bus driver would later take the cash from another passenger and give us our $2.00.  THANK YOU MR. BUS DRIVER! ahahaha If that wasn’t enough we arrived at the train station to take the Path to New York Penn. I think we waited 40+ minutes for the train to arrive. Lots of crazy took place on that platform and T. and I discussed it all.

Macy’s Herald Square on 34th Street

We arrived and headed straight to Macy’s, Herald Square. I know you’ve seen Miracle on 34th Street. Macy’s has partnered with The Peanuts this year and has included them in their holiday decor.

Lord & Taylor – Fifth Avenue

If you are going to do Christmas in New York than you must stroll down the famous Fifth Avenue. Lord & Taylor went with “A Few of Our Favorite Things” theme this year. I must say we have a lot more in common than I realized.

Lord & Taylor Sweets Shoppe

They have a love for sweets just like me aka. #FatSnacks

See, more sweets, aka #FatSnacks

Lord & Taylor – Habitat for Humanity

This picture doesn’t do this justice. You should see the crowd of people I had to fight elbow navigate just to get this shot. This window display celebrates their new partnership with Habitat for Humanity. I could get pictures of all of them but they were beautiful.

T and I walked down to the infamous Rockefeller Center. It is as magical as they make it out to be on TV. The decor is really festive; the people though MY GOSH the people were everywhere like roaches. I had no idea how packed it would be in the winter months.

Rockefeller Center is a must

This picture is blurry but I love it so I had to share. We dressed comfy, cute and warm. We were prepared for the weather and the tons and tons of walking we did.

Rockefeller Christmas Tree

See all the people, some are just watching and the rest were in what had to be a 5 hour line to ice skate.

christmas in new york 9

Holiday balls… okay ornaments.

We checked out some store fronts and ate street food. For the non-New Yorkers street food is food from the street vendors. I had a dirty dog {Hot Dog} and T had a pretzel. This was just to hold us over until we ventured to Brooklyn via the train to check out the Brooklyn Flea Smorgasburg.

christmas in new york 10

Hello Brooklyn!

This was T’s idea so I didn’t know what to expect, I was just along for the experience.  She said food and shopping and I said sign me up; some things you just don’t have to really think about.

“The Chew, Mario Batali called Smorgasburg “The single greatest thing I’ve ever seen gastronomically in New York City,” and The New York Times called it “The Woodstock of Eating.””

With a validation like this you don’t ask, you just go.

How cool is this pick-up truck and gift situation made out of sweater material. I love me a good craft honey.

christmas in new york 12

You know I had to pose and post this.

Once inside they had a lot of dope vendors. They had a variety of products which was fun.  The best vendor name goes to Ish, they sell Horseradish, that name was epic for me.  This picture was the dopest thing I saw in the place. This vendor sold Lego sets, do you know what this one is?

Movie scene in Thriller

Did you guess Thriller? That is Michael Jackson and his movie date in the theater. Dope right?

christmas in new york 14

It gets better; this is the dance scene from the movie. I told you this was the dopest thing in there. For $250 it can be yours.

My childhood

I totally found my childhood in this place, even better that I spent my first seven years of life in the Bronx. This was like a welcome home letter.

Lobster Roll w/ bacon & Lobster Mac & Cheese {Redhook Lobster}

Because #FatSnacks this meal was everything I dreamed of and more. BACON MAKES EVERYTHING BETTER! There was no shortage of lobster clumps what so ever; I’m talking huge pieces. Mac & Cheese is a staple and people mess it up all the time but that is NOT how this story ends.. When I saw the lady pull out a torch and singe the top of it I started drooling and foaming at the mouth. I mean MY GOSH!!!!

Holey Cream, NYC

I told y’all about this spot then I went to NYC this summer. The only other thing I will share is 1. I love great food. 2. I love to share my love for great food with friends. 3. I had just eaten the lobster roll and mac & cheese then came and ate this ice cream. 4. It was cold and we were outside eating ice cream.

I had a ball in New York and as often as I go each trip is different than the other.  I love to grab life by the balls, when I die please know that I have LIVED!!!!!!

I hope you Cuties are out there living it up. I can’t, not visit New York because of potential terrorism. HELLO I LIVE IN DC! I can’t, not live life because {insert random reason here}. Life is short and shorter for some than others LIVE EACH MOMENT AS IF IT IS THE LAST.

Thanks Aleia, most of us don’t take advantage of the true gems in our home town. I’m guilty of that and I’m right here in DC.

    • MimiCuteLips

Oh you must, it is crazy how magical it makes you feel. I didn’t expect that as an adult and you already know how I am about my #FatSnacks.
