5 Essential Tips for Bloggers

Hey Cuties,

Another week is in the books, the kids are still out of school but they rerun on Monday. AMEN! Tomorrow it’s going to be 52 and then 60 on Sunday. Oh Yeah! Before I run off to enjoy the warmer temps I wanted to share some Blogging Tips I shared on Periscope this week.

Kierra of KMW Exclusive is the founder of the Blog Code; it is a rotating Periscope Party with bloggers. Each blogger gets on for fifteen minutes and shares their blogging story and tips they’ve learned along the way. I was honored to be a party of the inaugural group.

Shout out to the ladies who were featured with me.

5 must have tips for a blog

  1. KMW Exclusive – Beauty – Entertainment – Gossip
  2. RaRolae – Lifestyle & Entertainment
  3. FXSHNJUNKE – Fashion & Style

I shared the following information with everyone:

  1. Why you need to own your own domain name & hosting.
  2. What I mean when I say be consistent with your social media.
  3. How to maintain your relationship with your fans/followers/readers/Cuties.
  4. Why it is necessary to have a tribe.
  5. Why you shouldn’t care if your friends or family support you.

No matter what business you are in you will also have lessons learned. It is a part of the process Google University is your best friend. It can save us from some of these basic mistakes.

This is a very good post especially for beginner bloggers. I wish I had some of these when I first started my blog.

  2. Stacie @ Divine Lifestyle

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that you have to be assertive. If you’re going to hustle, you’ve got to hustle!

  3. Jenn

Great Periscope!! I hope to add more videos and periscopes to my blog. I find it very hard to know what to talk about! You are such a natural!

    • MimiCuteLips

Thanks Jenn, its funny you say that. I hadn’t been on Periscope in a long time because I wasn’t sure what to talk about. lol

  4. Jenn @ EngineerMommy

These are great tips for running a blog. It’s important to keep active on social media for sure, although sometimes I do fall off the wagon with that!

  5. Kirstin N. Fuller (@thetravelindiva)

Truly great advice Doll! The first one – own your domain is crucial, especially if you want to partner/work with brands and/or do product reviews. Fabulous periscope!

  6. Jovanhanna

Consistency is so important. Friends and family won’t always support so it’s good to have a good group of blogger friends that understand the struggle.

  7. lisa

These are great tips for a start up blogger! It’s very important to have a group you can bounce ideas off of and ask questions!

  8. victoria

This is absolutely a great tips. I’m so glad you post it. I am new and still learning for blogging.

  9. Annemarie LeBlanc

Lots of information here for a newbie blogger. My first step when I started blogging was to get my own domain name. It gave an “edge” to have your own dot com! Right now, I am quite satisfied with my blog’s performance but of course, there is always room for improvement.

  10. Olivia

Great perisope!!! I love the tips you gave. I can’t agree more about the domain name. I’ve started quiet a few blogs before I started the one I have and the first thing I did differently this time was purchase a real domain name! I think it’s a real important step to show how serious you are!

I have been wanting to do periscope myself for my blog but I’ve been nervous haha. I LOVE this idea for a periscope party! Is kierra still doing it?!? I would love to be a part of one if I can.

I also love the tips you gave!

  11. Cherri Megasko

My next big change (I think) will be to start hosting my own sites. It’s not that I dislike where I’m at … I’d just like to have more control.

  12. Jennifer Pilgrim

These tips are must-haves for any blogger. I’ll be passing this o n to my blogger friends for sure!

  13. Tatanisha Pitts-Worthey

Periscope Party sounds like a great event, I would love to attend and be able to get more tips on blogging. This tips are awesome for new bloggers.

  14. Joanna

Great tips. My brother was thinking about starting a blog and the #1 thing I told him was to get his own domain and snatch up the names on social media when he comes up with it.

  15. Nicole

I wish I would’ve realized #1 from the beginning. I started on a free wordpress site and it was a pain to move it all over (on my own with zero experience or skills), glad its done now though!

  16. Maggie Branch

I am new to the blogging world and found this very informative. I never realized how important owning your own domain was before this.

  17. Up Run for Life

These are excellent tips. I know my family had no clue that you could even make money online. I’ve proved them wrong and now a few want to test it but don’t know where to start.

I think self hosted domain is the best way to go. Other platforms run the risk of shutting down.

  18. Kelli @ 3 Boys and a Dog

This is great advice for anyone thinking to blog or even already blogging. Its always great to hear from fellow bloggers to help you along the way. Thank you for sharing with us~

  19. HilLesha

My family and friends weren’t really supportive when I first started blogging in 2004. Most of them are now, though! But you’re right – one shouldn’t care if friends and/or family are not supportive. 🙂

  20. GinaB

Great tips, especially the one about caring about friends and family. My biggest tip would be being true to yourself. Understanding your brand and your intention.

  21. OurFamilyWorld

These are very helpful tips. A lot of new bloggers will find this useful.

  22. Bonnie @wemake7

This is some really great advice, event advice I can take with me too even though I’m not a beginner. Great post.

  23. Kathy

I think this is a wonderful post for beginners. I’ve been thinking of changing my blog name, but then I feel like I want to leave it alone because I know it’s going to be a big hassle. I know that the domain part is really hard..I remember when I first started blogging. It was tough at first.

  24. Chubskulit Rose

Having your own domain is a must if you want to work with compani-es. Great tips.

  25. Kara (Kay's Ways)

Great tips Mimi! Loved the scope you’re a natural on there. I see you boo

  26. Keisha

This is great info. My blog began as a tool to keep my family up to date on my life as an expat. I did buy my domain name, though. I find myself slightly interested in having an audience for the travels now since I get so many questions on Instagram about my adventures. We will see how that goes.

  27. Jay | Relaxed Thairapy

I didn’t get a chance to watch the Periscope, unfortunately. However, I had to learn that friends and family are my target audience, thus it’s unrealistic to expect them to support me.

  28. Lashonda

This is going to be a good seminar to leave blogging tips!!

  29. Ann Bacciaglia

This is a perfect post for my Sister. She is just starting out with her blog. I will have to share it with her.

  30. Patranila

There are so many things that no one talks about that are crucial for blogging success. These are great tips for beginners!

  31. CourtneyLynne

I need to start scoping more!!! I was on a roll with its for months and I don’t know… I have scoping burn out lol…. Ran out of cleaverness to talk about!

  32. Jonna

For some reason Safari is being shady and not letting me play this video. But I’ll check it out on Katch. I want to hear about these essentials!

  33. Holly

Great tips. Also great reminder for those who have been doing blogging for awhile.

  34. Jenny

Thanks for this. I totally need a refresher. I’ve been out of the game for a year. But even before that I was eh about it.

  35. Lisa Rios

The video looks very informative & this is such a great resource for bloggers who are very new in to it. I agree social media plays a major role in blogging & you need to make sure you are active enough to succeed.

  36. Vashti (

Awesome tips Mimi. I feel like you are in my head lol. I’m preparing a presentation for newbie bloggers and I have all those points included. I always try to stress the importance of building relationships with your audience by talking TO them and not AT them.

    • MimiCuteLips

Thanks Vashti, that is huge. I talk to people the way I talk to my girls. That also helps to keep people engaged in what you’re saying.

  37. Brittany Jones

Wonderful periscope!! I’m preparing to launch my blog in April. It’s a sewing/lifestyle blog. I really appreciate the tips. I too need something outside of motherhood. I’m preparing myself for the hard work it takes to be successful at blogging! Also you were so relatable and great on LIVE video!
