Friday was so kind to grace us with its presence and so I am so graciously blessing you with another #FatSnacks Friday. Yesterday was Take Your Child to Work Day and I brought my girl with me. She has no idea what I or my agency does but she had a great time. That is all that matters, when I went to work with my Mom as a kid I had no idea what her job was about either. I left out of that joint with money, food, office supplies and a lot of great memories. In honor of the day I took my girl out to a new spot for lunch. It was so bomb I had to feature it on #FatSnacks Friday.
The weather was funky, cold and rainy but that wasn’t going to stop us. You know I take my food game seriously.
Astro’s has two locations, one in Falls Church, VA and the other is downtown Washington, DC. We went the DC location which wasn’t far from my job. They also have a food truck; they are all the rage in our area. Astro’s uses ingredients from quality farmers and purveyors. They also use seasonal fruit and produce from local farmers. Yes to fresh!
I clearly need to come back as they have several options on the menu that I need to taste. The DC location is tiny, like shoulder to shoulder no more than five people in at a time tiny. But the food is AMAZING! They have a few table and chairs out front, but it was cold and raining so we walked back to the office and ate.
The menu rotates so the doughnut selection varies depending on the season and what produce is available.
Let me tell you something this sandwich right here melted in my mouth. They give you sauce options, but no sauce was needed. Yes God that is a doughnut with chicken betwixt it. Won’t he will. I went for the Old Bay Fried Chicken Sandwich oddly enough these things absolutely taste good together. Pure deliciousness erupting in thine mouth. The doughnut almost melts in your mouth; it is soft and fluffy while the honey butter chicken is fried to perfection.
Other sandwich options include: Fried Chicken BLT and Buffalo Chicken. You know I’m going for the Chicken BLT next week. Yes I’m going again NEXT WEEK. I hope the weather is better so I can eat outside and enjoy it while it is still hot.
My daughter went for the chicken fingers, they were equally delicious. They give you five in total and again, fried to perfection.
You know I’m fat and I wasn’t just going to have a sandwich. I had a vanilla bean doughnut; this is my favorite flavor of ice cream so it was a must.
You know how I feels about the bacon; there was no way I was NOT going to order this purse sugary salty doughnut experience.
If you are in the DC area, treat yo self. If you are visiting the DC area treat yo self. If you have a friend in the DC area you will see soon, tell them to treat themselves and bring you some too.
