I told you I spent my Mother’s Day doing much of nothing. The truth is on Saturday I had turned up so much I was exhausted. I hosted my annual Mother’s Day Tea Party; that night Babe and I turned up with Fantasia & Anthony Hamilton. Back to my tea party; the entire time I was planning it I was excited about spilling the tea post party. I changed things all the way up this year and I was proud of my creativity. I need to work on sponsorship and out sourcing for the next one. I hosted my first Mother’s Day Tea back in 2010, we had so much fun we decided I would do this every year. So in 2011 I hosted my second Mother’s Day Tea. My parties were for the Mom’s and daughters in my family; I was the only person there that didn’t have a daughter. In 2012 that all changed, I finally had a daughter. While she was only four months old I hosted another tea party. I was so pressed! I never posted the pictures, my edges were invisible thanks to pregnancy and I was exhausted. In May of 2013 two of Babe’s friends were killed on their motorcycles and our lives were turned upside down. There was no party, in the years to follow life happened.
This year my daughter wanted a tea party, two weeks before the date I made it official. I invited, planned and made it happen. My daughter is all about re-doing all the things we did with her that she doesn’t remember. This was one of them, on the very day I decided it was going to happen I found myself in Target. Who am I kidding, I’m always in Target. While browsing the dollar bins I found my theme and it was off to the races from there.
The color theme was black, gold and white. I had visions of paper, burlap and gold accents.
I used brown paint paper, yes the kind you get from the paint section in Home Depot to protect the floor from paint. I used my Cricut Machine to cut out the shapes in the background. The great thing is I already had all of the cartridges so I didn’t have to buy any new ones. I used black, white and gold card-stock; I purchased the two balls on the wall in a decorating kit from Michael’s. My goal was to re-purpose a lot of the old tea party decor. The wooden butterflies were bold painted colors. I covered them with gold spray paint.
Top Plate: Refresh muffins from the bakery. and the rest fix it usually. Middle Plate: Pineapples, blueberries and strawberries. Third Plate: Cinnamon buns. Middle Wrack: Croissant sandwiches w/ turkey and cheese
This was my favorite area because it was a bit more DIY than everything else. My island is the home of my cook top stove. Only it is not a flat cook top, it has ranges on it and all of that business. I asked Babe to build something to cover my stove like a case so I could use it as serving space. He showed up and showed out and created exactly what I wanted. SCORE!!!
I love Celestial Tea so I had had to have an assortment. I included water, honey, sugar, cake pops, chocolate covered pretzels and a lemon bundt cake.
I love details, so I added this cute tea cup on the wooden spoon for the raw sugar. The wooden spoons were left over from my chocolate covered spoons.
I tried my hand and making cake pops. I don’t hate them, but I didn’t love the process. They were perfect for my decor though.
I love the gold sprinkles; they were a nice touch to my sweet treats.
When I found a tea cup and tea pot mold I just knew I had to make some pops for my tea party.
They were the perfect pairing with my cake pops.
Personalized water bottle labels are a great way to add your theme into the mix.
My cake was moist and fluffy and perfectly brown.
I already had the plates. I picked up the napkins from Target. My runner is paint paper as mentioned above. I used my butterfly tea set as decoration and it pulls in the theme.
I spray painted this gold, I must admit it is one of my favorite pieces. I cut my white roses down really low and put them in the chair. I had two in total on the table.
I picked up these mugs from Michael’s. I purchased the bags from Target and I added really cute things inside of them. I had two little ladies in attendance so they got these cute little ice cream cups. I also got these from Michael’s.
I want something bold and colorful for us to wear. When I saw these Marimekko dresses at Target we had to have them. They were perfect for our tea party. Nori requested “Annie Hair” she loves the black Annie and she has naturally curly hair. She proudly rocked a twist out and loved it.
