Super League Minecraft Game Event Recap

Hey Cuties,

How was the weekend? Did you get and give all the Mother’s Day love you desired? I didn’t want to do anything but parenting has no days off. My daughter didn’t get the “Don’t ask Mommy, ask Daddy for everything today” memo. On Saturday I hosted a Mother’s Day Tea; it was an annual thing but I fell off the past four years. At my daughters request and a little pushing from the ladies in the family I got that old thing back. The Tea Party is for the mothers and daughters in my family as well as close friends. It is the reverse He-Man Woman Haters Club (c) Little Rascals, so Babe and the Man-child went to the Super League Minecraft Gaming event.

iPic Theater Bethesda: My Girl & the Man-Child

My son is a Minecraft fan, so I already knew he was down before I even mentioned it. I didn’t tell him until a couple of days ahead of time. You know kids will drive you crazy if you tell them too soon.  I only told him then because I wanted to make sure he was all set up in ready. Note: Family is encouraged to attend and cheer on the gamer; at no additional cost.

What you need to attend:

  • A laptop fully charged
  • Minecraft Version 1.9.2 {No beta or pocket editions} it cost $26.95
  • Minecraft User Name
  • Minecraft game experience.

Once we had all of those things checked off we were set. You have the option to join a team in advance, create your own team or select a team the day of.  We selected the iPic Theater in Bethesda, Maryland. Click here to find locations in your area.  This was my first time at this theater and it is all kinds of classy. Do you see the reclining chairs below? You can order food and wine while you watch your movie. Each seat has a pillow and blanket just waiting for you. I had no idea how much an actual movie ticket cost but they have all the bells and the whistles and the beep beeps.

Minecraft Super League 2

Super League Rise of Heroes T-Shirt

Nasir signed in and got connected; the process was pretty easy and painless. When you get all signed in you will receive a t-shirt and badge.  If you come back to play they encourage you to wear this shirt. You can go all month with no additional charge.

Set up and ready to play

The kids find their own spots in the theater and get set up.  You can sit with your team if you want; if you don’t you can use the chat feature in Minecraft to stay connected.  Nori took advantage of the comfort and reclined back and broke out her tablet.

Minecraft Super League 1

Nasir is in full game mode.

My son is really competitive so he enjoyed playing against other teams.

Minecraft Super League 4

Getting their game on

Parents enjoyed the comfort and watched the game on the big screen or entertained themselves with their mobile device or books. If you are into gaming then you might do some coaching from the sideline. Either way this isn’t a bad way to spend your Saturday morning.

Minecraft Super League 7

I got into this good bathroom light

I mean look, if I’m going to be hanging out here then I want in on the action. This light is everything, can you see the lips on my sweatshirt?

Here is how it all goes down, there are several missions the gamers will play. They will give you a small demo and the purpose of each mission before you get started.  Here is a snip of the experience.

Nori wanted a picture by the water so that is exactly what this is.

Minecraft Super League 8

My girl & I

Nasir had so much fun he came back a second week in the row. With us having our ladies only Tea Party this kept him occupied. He has on his Super League shirt and everything.

Minecraft Super League 6

Nasir and his buddy

I like to try new things with the kids; this was a cool outside of the box activity that my son totally enjoyed it. He got to chat with people about a game that they both love. He would chat with us about it but we never really got it.

How fun! They came to us here in Boston, too, but the timing wasn’t right for me to be able to bring my boys. I know they would have loved it.

  2. valmg @ Mom Knows It All

We all like different games on various platforms. We don’t have any Minecraft players but I can see where this would be fun for fans of the game.

  3. Jenn @ EngineerMommy

What a wonderful and fun-filled event. My kids are still a little young to be into games, but I’m sure once they get a bit older, they’d love to attend an event like this. I remember loving playing video games like this when I was a kid!

    • MimiCuteLips

Jenn, it is funny because while watching him I thought about the Atari and Nintendo days when I loved playing video games.

  4. Kayvona

That looks like it was so much fun. My little brother loves MineCraft. He would probably love to go to something like that.

  5. Robbi Rose

Thanks for the post. I knew absolutely nothing about the Minecraft craze so it was a really good introduction. Seems like a great way to share time with family and friends as well. We all like the rush of a little competition.

That event looked like it was so much fun! It seemed like a great way to connect and meet fellow gamers. Unfortunately, I am horrible at video games. I really like the Wii and can play a little bit of Xbox.

    • MimiCuteLips

It was Ariana, I’m not great at them either. That is why I let my kid have all the fun. I like puzzles and solitaire. lol
