It is another dope Friday here at mimicutelips.com and another #FatSnacks Friday. Over the weekend my Bloggy Boo’s and I attended the VIP Soft Opening of Not Your Average Joe’s in Silver Spring, MD. You already know how I feel about food, so there was no way I was going to miss this sacred experience. Until now I had never been to Not Your Average Joe’s so I was really looking forward to it. Not Your Average Joe’s officially opened up to the public on Tuesday, July 12th. Please pay them a visit at 8661 Colesville Road, Silver Spring, MD; they are in the heart of downtown Silver Spring.
I had no idea what I was going to wear. Not Your Average Joe’s is a neighborhood type of spot where you can easily become a regular and everybody knows your name. You know real Cheers like, so I didn’t want to overdo it. But I wanted to do it. Please know that before we left they certainly knew our names.
I’m sucker for a graphic t-shirt for almost any occasion so I rocked by Because of Them We Can t-shirt. I was still in my feels a bit so I needed to just say it with my chest. That meant I had to turn it up from the waist down so I went with a tulle skirt I hardly ever wear. I added my favorite bow belt into the situation, then tossed on a comfy heel and left home.
Back Story: Not Your Average Joe’s is a Boston-based restaurant chain. They occupy 6,500 square feet and have outdoor seating. Oh I love to eat, sip and people watch during the warm months. The chain has been around for 22-years and has 26 locations in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Maryland and Virginia.
I love to dine at an establishment that gives me something to eat while I wait for my food. My Fat Girl radar just went all kinds of crazy. We dipped our bread and dipped our bread until there was no dip left to speak of. It was so yummy. Because sharing is caring I’ve got something for you…
Here’s their recipe:
Grated Romano/Parmesan Cheese 1 oz.
Crushed Red Pepper Flakes 1 pinch
Olive Oil Blend or Extra Virgin Olive Oil 2 oz.
Chopped Garlic 1/2 tsp
Combine cheese and red pepper flakes together. Add garlic and oil and mix well.
What they didn’t know is that the Bloggy Boo’s turn up. This isn’t an intentional type of deal it is simply the natural order of things. Our energy is just so electric. The dope thing is we want to share it with others so we allow them the experience.
First order of business cocktails…
Moscow Mule: Tito’s hand-made vodka gives a powerful kick to muddled blackberries, agave nectar, freshly squeezed lime and fever tree ginger beer, in a copper mug $8.99
Fresh Fruit Sangria: Fruit punch for grownups, made with red wine and brandy, plus plenty of real fresh fruit. $7.50 Pitcher $16.5
Pineapple Painkiller: The Virgin Islands’ reputed hangover cure, house-infused pineapple rum, cream of coconut, muddled pineapple and freshly squeezed OJ, with a sprinkle of nutmeg. $8.00
This appetizer was so good we had two servings of it. Plus, we are also that fat, they were the perfect combo of spice and sweetness. These Buffalo Caribbean Chicken Tenders are hand breaded and tossed with mango-buffalo BBQ sauce served with pineapple-jalapeno salsa. *insert praise dance* They are suck your fingers good okay. $10.50
We are a movement by our-self, but we’re a force when we’re together…
We showed up and showed out the entire night. Our table was the life of the party, people kept stopping by and asking us questions. When I say people I mean the employees would ask if we needed anything. Ask us who we were and why we had 40 photo shoots in their fine establishment. We chatted with the Executive Chef and VP of Culinary Mr. Jeff Tenner. The food was so good we genuinely only had nice things to say. We have a future date with him to get a tour of the kitchen. We even had a really nice white lady tell us we were “Her favorite color.” Ummm, okay. Thanks maybe… I’m certain we met most of the staff and they were all a good time. I love people who recognize good energy and give it right back.
Please note these are signs of a good establishment. The people come first, they treated us like we were the only people who mattered. I aint the one to gossip, so you aint heard it from me but we were the only ones that mattered. I’m just saying. After snapping lots of pictures, chatting and sipping cocktails we finally decided on what we were going to eat. We made sure we each got something different.
Chicken Piccata: Pan-seared chicken over fettuccine in a lemony cream sauce with capers, diced tomatoes and sautéed green beans $16.50
Chicken Enchiladas: Pulled chicken with pepper jack, caramelized onions and fresh corn, wrapped in handmade tortillas, sprinkled with cotija cheese and pepita seeds served with yellow rice and black beans $16.50
Chimichurri Flank Steak: Marinated and grilled flank steak with chimichurri, Mexican street corn and black bean rice $21.50
Sweet Blue Burger: Blue cheese, country bacon, caramelized onions and arugula with organic greens or hand-cut fries $12.50
Molten Chocolate Cake: Served warm with a gooey chocolate center, hot chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream $7.50
Peanut Butter Thing: Joe’s claim to fame—peanut butter and chocolate chunks folded into vanilla ice cream and rolled in Oreo cookie crumbs, topped with fresh whipped cream and drizzled with hot chocolate and caramel sauces. $7.99
The food was amazing; we took turns eating some of each other’s food. The customer service was outstanding, shout out to Daniel he took excellent care of us. We are a handful to say the least but he kept up with no problem. He even got in on the laughs and took pictures for us. The place is nice and warm and inviting, you can show up in jeans or a tulle skirt and still fit right in. Bonus: They have large booths in the bar area. I can’t wait to go back and visit during football season.
This event was on the house, but I wanted you to see how reasonable the prices are. I also included the price next to each picture. I love a good night out on the town eating and drinking and not going into the poor house. They attach an iPhone to a cutting board so you can complete a survey. Note: You can’t take the phone off we tried. You can’t use the camera to snap selfies, we tried. You can’t do anything other than the survey, we tried.
After our meal we were outside being our normal amaze-balls self and this gentleman asked us about our experience. In a very overwhelming fashion we all spoke of the goodness at once. He told us he was the “Joe” of Not Your Average Joe’s so we made him take a selfie with us. Then I texted him the picture. hahahaha Update: He is Joe of sorts but Not Your Average Joe who is a fictional person but he is Joe Garland, the Regional Director of Operations.
The Bloggy Boo’s aren’t your average gals so we were a match made in heaven for Not Your Average’s Joe’s. Now we need a booth at the bar in our honor with a cute gold plate that says “Bloggy Boo’s”. We can blame this amazing night on Director of Digital Marking, Stacey Furtado. She made sure we got the royal treatment. We are going to make her an honorary member right after she makes the booth thing happen.
If you’ve never been GO, if you haven’t been in a minute GO! If you go to the one in Silver Spring the Bloggy Boo’s are a mandatory +5, we come with the experience.
