Happy Monday Cuties,
I’ve been working on a closet DIY for almost a week now. I won’t be selfish and take all of the credit because Babe totally helped me out. Like helped me out so much this should maybe be his DIY. I was more of the designer and foreman and he did all the work although I located and purchased the materials. What kind of work? Team work. {Quick, what show is that from?} When we purchased our home six years ago Babe hooked us all the way up. He customized our closets to our liking and I loved it. He gave me what I asked for and it was cool; until it wasn’t.
My system had begun to fail me and it was no longer keeping me organized. I began to toss things all over the place and I couldn’t find what I was looking for. I would pull out a drawer, grab something and slam it closed before things began to fall onto my feet. You know just like our kids do with everything in their life. This time I’m talking accessories, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, eye-wear, headbands, tiny handbags, hat, scarfs all of the things.
I was on Pinterest for days, I had my girlfriend on Pinterest and still I hadn’t found the perfect answer. So I went with a hybrid of what I found on Pinterest, what I had, what would work and the space I had available to make all of this happen. For real the goal was to spend as little as possible.
I tried to document the experience so you can really see what was, and now what is. I had these pull out drawers and this basket that held a bit of everything.
So ummm yeah… clearly you see why I need a better situation.
This one wasn’t terrible but it was hard to slide the drawer closed.
I don’t even know what my original intentions were for this shelf. It quickly became the catch all. I would toss my small cross body bags on top, bags of things I’ve purchased and anything else that needed a home.
The first order of business was to move the clothes from the middle to the far left. We removed all of the jewelry drawers and baskets and the shelf so that the clothes could now fit in this space.
I picked up this wooden frame from Michael’s for a few bucks + a 40% off coupon. I already knew I would add hooks to it to complete my Pinterest vision.
I purchased a pack of 5/8-inch cup hooks from Home Depot. You can also get them from any craft store, as well; some places call them mug hooks. I didn’t want them too big because I needed to maximize my space. I only had a limited amount of space to work with so I couldn’t get a really big wooden frame.
Thanks to Babe for putting all of the hooks in. I failed after the first couple of times and played the damsel and distress card. He used a thumb tack to make a hole before screwing the hooks into the same hole. Apparently that made it easier. After he finished this I had him add a row of hooks to the bottom.
My jewelry organizer is all set and ready to be hung up. Babe and I discussed not wanting to put more holds in our walls so we went with a 3M mounting tape. This tape can hold up to 5lbs of weight and it won’t damage our walls. A pack cost a little over $7.00 but we already had some. If you get it at the craft store make sure you use a 40% off coupon.
Hanging the jewelry organizer…
I loved the way it turned out. Peep the extra hooks at the bottom for maximum use.
I went for a less is more type of deal but very functional.
I got rid of a lot of earrings and still had a lot of earrings left. I picked this case up from Michael’s for a couple bucks. It was in the jewelry beading area. It was perfect for my smaller earrings and studs.
I picked this up from Home Goods, because Home Goods always has the cute finds. It was the most expensive part of my jewelry makeover but worth it at $14.99. This only has some of my necklaces on the back. The others are really big and heavy so I left them where they were hanging on the wall. I put bracelets, my Jord watch, and my huge hoops on the shorter round. The bottom area was perfect for my rings, the bigger rings fit in the open area on the right. I put my lip lapel pin in the middle.
Now this is a system I can get with. I put my bracelets on the left in the sectioned area and put my glasses and bow ties on the right in the open area. I added in two funky pair of my wooden stud earrings. They give it more personality.
I still had bracelets left over so I put them in the second drawer. The smaller beaded types on the left with my chunky bracelets on the right.
The other drawers I purged first and then just started moving pieces. That was the case for this basket as well. On the left side I rolled my scarves and put a rubber band around each of them to keep them neat. This allows me to actually see what I have. I rolled the three belts I wear the most in the front and stacked up the others. I put my ski goggles on top and moved to the right side. On the right side I stood up my clutches I use the most and finished it off with my caps.

I’ve outgrown my jewelry box and it’s a hot mess. I really need to do an organizer like this in my closet. I hate everything getting all tangled up in that box.
Yes Alli, the tangling is a big problem.
Love!!! My jewelry is all tucked away in boxes where I can’t see anything so I definitely need an organizer like this where I can see what I have.
Yes, being able to see what you have is key. Find old pieces I hadn’t seen in a long time has been fun for me. What old is new again.
These organisation has put my room to a shame, I am loving the jewellry organisers. I think I need to do something similar as my room is a hot mess right now
Sorry Anosa, girl I had shame going on too until I took on this project. I’m back to enjoying my closet again.
My jewelry is in dire need of being well organized. You did a fabulous job. I don’t even want to think about how long it would take me to straighten out the mess in my closet right now! Once I get done purging, there won’t be much left!
Thanks Shirley. You certainly need to set some time out for sure. Sounds like a great winter project.
What a great way to organize your jewelry! This would have been perfect when I had a lot of jewelry. it’s all disappeared over the years.
lol @ it all disappeared over the years.
Great job! I wish l had the patience for that. Truthfully, all l have done is use the dresser in the spare bedroom. Everything is just all over the place. They don’t give you a lot of room in Spain..at least not what l’m used to :-).
It totally took some patience for sure. Which is why I’d put it off for so freaking long.
I think my mother would absolutely love this. She’s always trying to find ways to organize her jewelry better
Hook her up Jeanette, she will love you even more. 🙂
I have so much jewelry and it’s all disorganized. I have a jewelry box, but it’s kinda all tangled up in there. I have to try this DIY. It looks fabulous.
Thanks Jenn. I was in your shoes and I would not wear something because I didn’t want to go digging for it.
I can see this being in my near future of todo! What a neat and easy idea to make a DIY jewelry organizer!
Go for it Sarah, this is a great fall/winter project as well.
Oh wow, great job! Having all of your jewelry on display like that will make things much easier. The new system looks great!
Liz much easier, I feel like I’ve been shopping in my own things. lol
That’s cute and very creative!
Thanks Kirstin, I had to do better. My style depended on it. lol
Good job! I love a good closet organization project. My jewelry is in a combination between my hanging wall jewelry thingy and baskets for bracelets and such.
Thanks KenyaRae. It was a really fun project to do. Babe is handy so I always consult him.
what a great way to get organized. you have so mnay pretty things-now you can find them easier I’m sure!
Thanks Kathleen. It has been fun to re-discover pieces I hadn’t worn in a really long time.
Teamwork makes the dream work! Sounds like you’ve got the perfect teammate! I need to do something like this for my jewelry too! I always end up just throwing jewelry out so it does’t over flow my small space but then I find myself wishing I hadn’t thrown it out haha!
Right Kayvona, I think he is a keeper. 😉 OMG throwing it out is not the answer.
I love it! You both did a great job. I’ve been looking for ways to reorganize my space in general. Pinterest is definitely a lifesaver.
Thanks Joanna. Pinterest has become Bae. lol
What a great idea. I might do this too as I need a better organization of my blings.
Go for it Rose, you mist discover a pair of earrings that has been tucked away.
This looks really nice! You did an awesome job on that. I would love to try to make one of these.
Thanks Bonnie, I didn’t want anything complicated.
Cute organizer! And it was financially fit! I’m always good at initially organizing but it ends up falling together in less than a week. 🙁
Yes Tia, financially fit was a big part of it. My goal is to keep it up, that is going to be the hardest part.
WOW!!! You did such an amazing job! I can’t believe how great your closet looks now. And, it looks so simple. I think I could do this. 🙂
Thanks Sara, it was really simple. Those are the best projects.
This is a super idea. I have my jewelry thrown all about the house and I can never find it when I need it. I need to implement this pronto.
OMG Dawn, I don’t know how you get all cute in the morning like that. Come back and give me an update.
I love this with all my heart. I need help with wear to put my growing jewelry collection. I even have the small clear containers with nothing in them.
It sounds like you need to start using what you have. Then determine what else you need. Let me know how it goes.
I like what you’ve created. This is nice! I don’t have many accessories to even have use for something like this. My mom can use this though.
Kim I wish I was more like you. lol
Please come do mines!!!
Hahahhaah Shanita, you can do it. I have faith in you.
This is a great idea to keep organized. I like your DIY for the jewelry. It’s so easy to lose earrings, rings and bracelets. Thanks for sharing your tip.
You are so welcome Francisca. Sometimes our earrings get all over the place.
Great job cleaning that up. I will no longer ever complain about my wife’s jewelry 😀
Hahahha Gabriel that is hilarious. I’m glad I was able to offer better appreciate for your wife.

I could and would NEVER EVER show my closet in the before state lol. You guys did a great job organizing the accessories, I like that you used 3m tape, I don’t want to put anymore holes in my walls either.
hahahaha Tata. Thanks girl, the 3M tape was all his idea. I had no idea they had a heavy duty version. I’m a fan for sure.
I love this. I need that for my earrings especially. They are all over the place lol.
Holly, that was my life for sure. Now I enjoy walking into my closet and viewing my jewels looking all cute and stuff.
