This Is How You Add Epic Style To Your Camo jacket

Hey Cuties,

I’ve been having a fit to do a DIY camo jacket and I’m finally ready to share. I started back it back in May. Yes, you read that correctly; I started six months ago.  I’ve been excited about it all this time. I started it in the spring but summer was approaching so it didn’t seem to fit. Not to mention I wanted it “just right” or at least close to the vision I had come up with in my head. I’m finally 100% complete with it and I adore it. Just in time for the fall/winter season. I didn’t even know camo was going to be a popular fall trend. Winning!

If you don’t have a loved one in the military the next best place to look is your local thrift store. Lucky for me I live near a thrift store and a military base, I know they have uniforms in this particular thrift store all the time.

Thrifted Camo Jacket

I found this one in the men’s section, I wanted a women’s size but I couldn’t find one. I’m probably going to add a string to the inside so I can cinch the waist.

DIY Camo jacket materials

My Vision: I wanted to keep this low-key in style. I wanted to use golds and blacks, metals, pearls and buttons and patches. I got the patches from my Mom so they were free ninety-nine. Apparently, she had plans to put them on a navy blazer eons ago. Cute idea, but glad it never happened. I got the buttons from the “button box” I know everyone has one, at least an old-school house does. It is where all random buttons go to die a long and lonely death. When I get a new top, I toss the extra buttons that come with it in said button box. When I find a lost button I also add it into the box. I never replace missing buttons but I do keep them all forever. I took a few of the silver and gold buttons for use. I got the straws of stones and such from Michael’s when they were on sale + my 20% off your total purchase.

Lip Art

Because my branding is always on point I had to incorporate lips into my look. I used the same lip stencil from my DIY Sweatshirt on the back of my camo jacket. I secured my stencils with some comic duct tape that I already owned.

Big Lips, Black Gold

I already had a can of gold spray paint from my Mother’s Day Tea Party so I went for that.

Custom patch because authenticity

I had to have my name on my jacket. When I found a place that does them on Amazon I went guns blazing I love the way my custom patch turned out.

I utilized no technique when you customizing the beading, you just roll with it. I used the above string of beads, I took them apart and randomly sewed on a new bead here and there, I eye balled things but that was about it. I didn’t want to do the entire pocket because the jewels would weigh me down.

Solid gold!

I like the messy kind of style it has to it.

MimiCuteLips it up…

DIY Camo jackets are supposed to reflect your individual style so this is my break down. The perfume and lipstick patches were purchased from Amazon.  They are both ironed on, this was my first time with those. The two large patches on the pockets were hand sewn. The Judgey Pop is the iconic symbol for New York Time best seller Luvvie Ajayi.  I created the rock and roll lapel pin myself. The microphone lapel pin was purchased from The Roots band.

DIY Camo Jacket

I’m so pleased, with the outcome.  When I wear it out in public people ask where they can buy one. SCORE!!!! This is a fun project, take the pressure off and go have fun. Don’t forget, to make it your own.

Camo is such a thing right now! I love how you take an ordinary camo jacket and make it your own. That personalized custom patch is awesome. I wish I had my army jacket from high school. They were all the rage back in the late 70’s.
