How to Make Fun DIY Christmas Ornaments

Hey Cuties,

We are four days away from Christmas; have you found your cheer? Have you finished shopping? Have you hung your stockings? Have you not bothered to pull out any decorations and just plan to lie around in your pajamas? No judgement, I believe in spending the holidays the way you want. I also realize that the holiday time can be a very sad and stressful time of the year. If you are missing a special someone I send you my love. If this is your first Christmas without said love one, I send you my love and I suggest doing something that honors them or something the both of you loved to do.

This year I wanted to change things up a bit, so much so I started working on it in July. For the past few years my ornament colors were blue, silver and white. This year I went for silver, gold and blush. I finally went with the colors I wanted, before I felt obligated to make it gender neutral.  I have no idea why.

Light Pink, Champagne Pearl & Pink Blush Pearl

Quote from Steel Magnolia: “Truvy: What are your colors, Shelby? Shelby: My colors are “blush” and “bashful.” M’Lynn: Her colors are “pink” and pink.” Shelby: My colors are “blush” and “bashful” Mama!”

Ornaments, Paint & Glitter

Now that I was all gung-ho with my new color theme I decided to get some wooden items so we can make our own ornaments. I picked up a few random pieces from the craft store and included an initial for everyone. We have two N’s although only one is shown in the picture. I got gold glitter and a white iridescent glitter.

For once I was about to release creative control and allow her to just be. Wee painted several ornaments and giggled the entire time. It was a nice mother daughter moment. We invited the boys to join us but they declined our invitation. Rude!

Because Maryland Blue Crab

I’m forever and always a Virginia girl but the rest of my household are Maryland crabs; so I thought this would be cute to add to our tree.  I painted the front and back gold and allowed each side to dry.

Ready for glitter

I have a ton of these containers and they are great for everything. I purchased them for Game Night, but I use them a lot for crafts. I put my crab in here, and then polished it with modge podge glue. I’ve been crafting for many years but never used this brand. I sprinkled the glitter on my crab and shook off the excess.

Glittered crab

My glitter has dried on nicely.  I took my modge podge glue and polished another coat of glue over my sparkly grab. This keeps the glitter from getting all over the dag on place. You can’t even tell the difference.

It looks so stinking cute, I love the way the final product turned out.

N for LittleCuteLips

LittleCuteLips worked hard on this one. She painted it light pink and then we added the iridescent glitter to it. Babe drilled a hole in the top and I looped a string in so we could hang it up.  She is so proud.  She helped me decorate the tree every step of the way.

J for Babe

This one here… I told you the boys didn’t get in on the decorating action when we did. After LittleCuteLips and I got the tree up Babe kept telling us how much he loved it. He loved it so much he was finally ready to decorate his ornament. He wouldn’t do it at the table like a normal person. No, he took it down into the garage and “decorated” it so nobody could see. Then I look up and this is what is on my tree. A RED LETTER J IS ON MY BLUSH, WHITE, AND GOLD TREE. He makes me sick, but it is so him.

M is for MimiCuteLips

I had to add a little style to mine so I taped it off with washi tape prior to painting it gold. I love the way it turned out.  LittleCuteLips insisted on putting her craft projects on the tree.

After a lot of pushing my son finally decorated his ornament and so we added it to the tree; like father like son.

Christmas Tree 2016

Making our own ornaments was a lot of fun for us. It allowed us all to express ourselves and be a part of the process. I wish you and your family the Merriest Christmas. Enjoy your time with family and friends.
