Genuine Magic was Made in a Room Full of Promising Black Bloggers and PR Experts

Hey Cuties,

Last week was socially busy for me; I hit the town on a Wednesday night and a Thursday night. Yes, two school nights in a row; both events were different but equally amazing. On Thursday I attended the Black Bloggers United, PR & Blogger Networking Social with the DC Chapter. #BBUDC

Somehow this event had slipped my radar but one of my favorite PR professionals was a part of the event and made sure I had my face in the face. It fed my social in a way that I didn’t see coming. We will chat about that more in a moment.

The event took place at Bar Deco; if you are familiar with DC it is right behind the Verizon Center. #BarDecoDC I lucked up and found parking right away. I was greeted by these really cute signs that told me exactly where the event was taking place.

Ice Breaker

Ashley Freeman of Don’t Die Afraid she represents the DC Chapter of Black Bloggers United. She had these cute little ice breakers for us to do. This was a favorite for me; it was such a great way to get us chatting without anyone feeling awkward. I’m so remixing this idea. As a result of this game I will tell you about the dope ladies I bet.

I met Rachel (far Left) of Telling of Love, she writes about love and relationships without giving you advice. She is a bit quiet but came out of her shell.  I also met Akeia (far Right) of Be Health Literate, she writes about a variety of health related things. She is also just started working in Public Relations.

Meet Jihan “JiJi” she is a vlogger at the Ji Spot. She refers to herself as a relationship non-expert but shares her experiences in a funny way.

I found that a lot of the bloggers I met were new to the blogging world. All of us were looking for our tribe and or someone to collaborate with.  Honestly as a blogger of seven years I will always look for a tribe and someone to collaborate with. Don’t get me wrong, I have a dope tribe; having several is the key. Some are long term, some are short term, and each may serve a different purpose. Collaborations will never go out of style. There is room for all of us to eat quite comfortably.

The night was about socializing you with others and chatting with PR professionals.  We had three PR professionals that told us about themselves and then opened up the discussion for questions. JACK POT! Listen as a blogger establishing relationships with PR folks is king.  As a Lifestyle Correspondent this is what I live for, again collaboration is key.  Closed mouths don’t get fed!

Meet Roni Marsh, she is the lifestyle blogger of  Damnnn Girl, she is the voice of the millennial women, she is all about empowering women to not be limited my definitions. She has a great bubbly personality.

After mixing and mingling with one another we broke out into groups of three. Each group did round-table sessions with each PR professional. It also gave us a chance to offer advice to one another and to share things that have worked with us in the past.

Brittany isn’t afraid to share her story and I love that, in a few months she will add wife to her resume. She chatted about the best way she likes to be approached by bloggers, the importance of social media and tips and tricks you can utilize to be more engaging.

Meet Taylor Jay, (black shirt) she is the lifestyle blogger of A Zealous Voice. She is the voice for the Christian millennial generation and she co-host a podcast.
