Did you know Indie Fashion Week was a Thing?

Hey Cuties,

I participated in Indie Fashion Week in DC for the first time.  Although this was my first time they have been around for several years. How did I miss this? No idea, but I won’t miss it again that’s for sure.  Indie Fashion Week DC ran from February 27th to March 5th.

I attended “The FASHIONABLE State of the Union” hosted by Indie Fashion Week & Modern Stitches Magazine.  It was an incredible town hall discussion with panelist that do a variety of things within the fashion industry and audience members. They discussed the current state of the fashion industry in the DMV area and more. I couldn’t accurately sum this up with words so I had to create a video so you could hear it for yourself.

Q: Do celebrities with clothing lines overshadow fashion designers that went to school for fashion? 00:11

Q:
What is the fashion culture in the DMV area, and do you think it has a future here? 02:42

Q: What do you think the next big interactive social media platform will be for fashion? 06:47

Q: As a fashion professional, what is the one thing you want people to know before pursuing this industry? 07:55

Q: What are some great networking tips? 14:07

Q: How can we better connect and collaborate in the fashion industry in the DMV? 19:51

Indie Fashion Week is a semi-annual series of events designed to highlight and showcase exclusive and or original products from independent, emerging and sustainable fashion collectives and houses. Its primary mission is to bridge the gap between consumers and independent brands through creative means of awareness, style consciousness and brand expansion potential within the Greater Washington, DC area – across all markets.

Panelist

All of these persons exist within the fashion spectrum one way or another.  The nice thing is they all do something different. That means their perspectives differ from one another. They didn’t always agree but they all brought really good information to the table.  We talked fashion, but we also talked about networking, how to do it and how and when you should follow up.
