Have You Validated Yourself and Your Business?

Hey Cuties,

I had a busy weekend but it was good. Spring has turned into summer here in the DC area and our temps hit 90+. I attended some events, I finally finished packing away my winter clothes and hung up all of my summer clothes; yay for open toed shoes. I also received a package in the mail that set my soul on fire. I need to plan a celebration, we’ll discuss more.

I cut all of my hair off on Wednesday and took it from jet black to a cinnamon spice; next step, blonde.  There is a Coco Chanel quote that says when a woman cuts her hair she is going to change her life. Although I’m a serial cutter this was timely.  I am changing my life, life is changing and it will be moving in the direction I want it to go in.

I’ve been on a journey of clarity as of late. I’m not as obsessed with finding my purpose like I once was. Only because I’m slowly picking up on things and I think I have a bit of understanding now.  Shout out to Nicole Walters for gifting me her Fierce Clarity program. It was just what I needed. If you feel baffled about yourself, your business and who and what, this class will help you as well.

They say your purpose is that one thing that people constantly say you do well better than others. Well in the last six months there is one thing I keep hearing. The great thing is it is something I love. Many of my regular Cuties (you) have also commented saying the same thing.   I love people, and socializing is my thang; I’m a people person.  I also share, I love to share with folks and I’ve always been an open book.

Hi, my name is Mimi and I’m a Lifestyle Media Correspondent; that means I share real life events, situations and day to day experiences in a variety of media formats. SQUEAL! This weekend I added MC/Host to my resume.   My new friends at the University of Maryland reached out to me to host two food-related segments at their Maryland Day event. My love for #FatSnacks is no secret and coupled with my love for people I was all in. It was awesome; I will give you a full recap on Wednesday. They said I was a natural, I was a hit, and I did a great job. They said they loved it and I said ME TOO!

With that said, I’ve already started being more intentional about growing in the area that I want to be in. The good news landed in my inbox last week when I received Media Credentials for Essence Festival in New Orleans. *Second Line* Geeked!!! The greatest news of the week came in the form or a letter.

She is official…

This has been a year in the making and I am proud to announce *drum roll* I officially have a registered trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. *body roll* That ™ is now a ®. I am the proud owner of MimiCuteLips. No, I didn’t do it on my own. Yes, I used an attorney. Shout out to Tyra HughleySmithLaw.com No, it isn’t cheap. Yes, it is cheaper if you do it yourself. Just because you can pull a tooth out doesn’t make you a dentist. There is a reason they have requirements and standards. I’m just saying…

With all of my newfound clarity and validation of thine self and thine business, I am looking forward to banging out the next quarter in grand fashion.

Trademarking your name is so important. In my business, name is everything, and it needs to be protected.

  5. Bill Sweeney

In the blogging game, your name is your most valuable asset. It is vital to protect it. Great post.

  6. MONICA Y

I have not thought about it before. Maybe something to look into. It is important to make sure we are actually representing our brand

    • MimiCuteLips

Monica, I work so hard to represent my brand. I’m always branded when I do anything. That is why I wanted to legally protect it.

  7. Jeanette

When you go girl it’s exciting with you can add more things to your resume for your business. I think I could do a lot better with my business than what I have been doing. I am in the process of trying to figure out how. It’s quite the learning experience and I really like it.

    • MimiCuteLips

Jeanette and that is okay. I don’t have all the answers but we are both moving and that is the great part. We can all do more.

Honestly I have been feeling rather burned out lately. We have decided to take a two week vacation and I am disconnecting completely. Hope this will refresh myself. I just cut my hair as well. New thing may be happening.

  9. Joely Smith

i want to get trademarked so badly! I need to figure out how! I can’t really afford a lawyer.

    LOVE your color too!

    • MimiCuteLips

Thanks Joely. Doing the annual money box challenges it a great way to save up. You stash away a certain amount every check and the by year end you have the cash saved up. It is the most painless way to do it.

  10. Yeu Doi

Oh wow! You are doing great things with your business. I love your new hair! I agree with the Coco Chanel quote. I do think when women cut their hair, they are either experiencing a great change or will soon. I always enjoy reading your posts about the different events you visit. It’s very inspiring to see other female bloggers working hard toward their goals. Best wishes to you as you continue on your journey!

    • MimiCuteLips

What a great and inspirational read! I am so happy for you that you have achieved this type of recognition, and it is always so curious to read how bloggers become full media outlets – it is amazing how much power we bloggers have, and where we can get just by writing solid content – power to you!

    • MimiCuteLips

Thanks, E H. I forget how much power we have sometimes myself. Whatever you desire to be, just keep working at it.

  30. Victoria Heckstall

If you have a business or are thinking about starting one, it’s going to be in the real world. Not in your mind. Your audience and customers are going to be real people, not imaginary.
