In my quest to be intentional in 2018 I am changing things up a bit around MimiCuteLips Land. I’m going to do a two post a week format and do more YouTube videos. That means subscribe if you haven’t. Don’t worry you can always chat it up with me on social media. Instagram is my favorite, but you can find me on Twitter and Facebook as well. Oh, and if you subscribe to my newsletter you get Cutie Mail every Friday. Eeeek!
This week I posted this picture on Instagram and it was popping. It has about 200 likes, but more importantly, it has 76 comments. I don’t post Christmas pictures of what we got for Christmas but Babe got me a Canon Rebel T6i DSLR camera. This has been on my list for a minute, I did camera research before settling out on the camera that would be the best fit for what I’m looking for. I obviously wanted great pictures, but I also wanted to do video. I just told you I’m doing more videos this year. In my sharing, I asked the question “What new thing do you want to learn in 2018?”
The responses ranged from photography, editing, learning a new language, learning stocks to anything else you can think of. It was a great way to encourage one another to try something new. What was hilarious was the number of people who have various models of my camera that said they want to finally learn to use it. Babe invested in MimiCuteLips and I appreciate that, so I want to make sure he gets a good return on his investment. With that said, I am determined to learn to use my camera.
I’ve checked out some YouTube videos, you know because YouTube University will teach you all kinds of things. However, I am a hands-on type of learner. I want to talk fancy about aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and how to work natural light. I know nothing but stay tuned, your girl is going to wow ya!
I roped in my boo The Style Medic to go on this photography journey with me. She is leaps and bounds ahead of me but I’ve learned a thing or two from her over the years, which I do appreciate. If it wasn’t for her, I may not have known that you can just use one of these wireless sd cards to connect to any of your devices and send images directly to others. These are things you learn from people who know about photography and just by doing some research of your own. She is great at posing and getting the look, pictures are more than just working the camera. I too want to be the total package. Owww!
See, I follow good direction and the shots are hot! Fun Facts: We did this shoot last weekend in 30-degree weather. Despite the cold, there was an odd amount of people out walking around and getting in our way. This sweatshirt was supposed to be a DIY tutorial but never happened. I made it myself though, the shirt was $5 and I used an x-acto knife to do the rest. I can’t wait to wear it again in the summer so I don’t have to wear a shirt underneath.
Great ways to learn a craft:
- If you know someone who is good at the said thing (such as Olga Topchii, https://www.olgatopchii.com/ click now
to check her work out) ask if you can intern or pay them to teach you.
- Exchanging services is another great way. Maybe you have a skill they want to learn and they have a skill you want to learn. Teach one another.
- Check your county programs, they are usually cheaper than going somewhere else.
- Check discount sites like Groupon and Living Social they are a great way to try it and see if you want to continue with it.
- Ask Facebook, you might be surprised at the talents and skill sets the people you already know have.
The Style Medic and I decided to learn photography together and also shoot one another. This is a great way to learn, to practice and get in those dope shots we want for free. I want to know what new thing you want to take on in 2018. It can be something big or small, there is no judgment here. If you want to be a stripper I am here for it, it requires incredible upper both strength that I simply don’t have but whateve! Don’t be afraid to speak your truth, this is a safe space.
