I Did The DC Bike Party For The First Time

Hey Cuties,

On Wednesday I ventured out for a night of fun, on a school night no less. It was such a dope experience that I had to share it with you. So much fun, that my butt is still hurting… I had a dope night of fun on a bicycle, getting some cardio in, feeling the wind blow on my face, bopping to music, enjoying time with Babe at the DC Bike Party.

DC Bike Party is a celebration of the bicycle, and Washington DC bicycle community.  We are not a race nor a riot: We are a free expression to celebrate the presence of a party wherever we are!! We are a celebration, a party, a free assembly of a growing and vibrant community of urban cyclists who wish to share our love of bicycles with each other and our broader communities.

The DC Bike Party meets up the second Wednesday of the month at the fountain in Dupont Circle in Washington, DC. Yes, they ride in the winter as well.  The District’s biking community, much like the city itself, is growing rapidly. DC Bike Party’s goal is to be a positive part of this growth. Once a month we will explore the city via bicycle with a new route, a new playlist and a new post-ride bar. Everyone is welcome, and the ride is free. All post ride outings are 21+

When I had LittleCuteLips in 2012 for the first year Babe and I would do adventurous day dates, this reminded me of those times.  We do outside of the box dates all the time. We chit chatted as we rode, he laughed at my biking riding skills or the lack thereof. He told me I ride a bike like a child. I mean I was rusty, but I got better. I only ride this bike once every two or three years.

With every DC Bike Party comes a theme, you already know I’m a sucker for a theme. These riders are not afraid to go all out either.  June is pride month, so there is no surprise that Pride was our theme for this month. I don’t exactly own any rainbows but I love colors so this is what I wore. Babe made me wear his helmet, you know because I suck at riding a bike and apparently he thought I might kill myself. Sir!

We meet up at 7:30 PM and we leave at 8 PM sharp. You see folks riding all kind of bikes, even the Bike Share bikes you can recent on the street.  You will also see a few folks on roller blades whizzing in and out of the pack. They have a legit system down and it is fascinating to watch. They block the streets so we can keep moving.

DC Bike Party

On the left side was our DC Bike Party party path. We did 3.38 miles at a chill pace.  Make no mistake we were cruising, they do not ball out or anything like that. It was a nice cruising pace and nobody was left behind.  You can come alone or bring a friend, either way it is a lot of fun.

On the right side was the path Babe and I took from the DC Bike Party destination. It was 1.88 miles back, it was much different this time. Everyone leaves when they want to leave so their is no departing party, just Babe and I cruising the DC streets on our own.

DC Bike Party

I was so excited when we arrived at our destination, which is a mystery every time. This isn’t even half of the people that rode. I wish I could full capture all of the people.

The weather was nice, but I was sweating and my shirt was stuck to my back. I had a minute to catch my breath and I took full advantage, until the mosquito bites started sucking my blood.

This dude rode his Ice Cream bike with us. He legit opened the cooler up and started selling ice cream at our destination. So damn smart!

The DC Bike Party is a place to just be you. We ring out bells, honk horns, blow loud whistles and a few folks blew bubbles. It is the most chilled out fun with a bunch of strangers you will ever have. I imagine that you also start to become friends if you participate often enough. Babe and the Manchild have gone several times, but this was my first. I won’t be my last though.

Man I don’t even remember the last time I rode a bike so I know I couldn’t do this right off bat lol I’d have to prepare for probably like a year haha but it does sound like a lot of fun!

    • MimiCuteLips

I am cracking up laughing at you. I had not been on a bike in two or three years. I was rusty, but I got it together.

  2. Toiia L. Rukuni

This looks like so much fun going on a bike riding adventure is very cool. I would love to get a new bike and ride around my neighborhood, because it is perfect for riding bikes!

  3. Shantel

  4. Leslie

What a cool way to tour a bit of the city on your bike and have fun along the way! I was going to ask if you would do it again but I see you plan on it!

  5. Kim

This sounds fun. I wonder if something like this happens in New York. The dude selling ice cream knows how to make money. I am not mad at him.

    • MimiCuteLips

I bet they have some, NYC is like DC always doing something.
Girl, I was like that is so freaking smart. I love his hustle.

  6. Kita

This looks like so much fun. I wouldn’t last even half of a mile but I would totally be down for some adventurous dates once I get back on the scene.

  7. Tiffany Haywood

This sounds like SO much fun. Confession: I don’t know how to ride a bike. IF I ever learn this would be something I would love to give a try. It looks like a great way to interact with your community and family.

    • MimiCuteLips

Since sharing this, I am shocked at the amount of people who don’t know how to ride a bike. It is rather easy, make it a bucket list item.

  8. Kiwi

Girl you are a good one. I would of passed all the way out but I am so happy you pushed through (literally).

    • MimiCuteLips

It was a struggle coming back that is for sure. I lacked the excitement I had going into it. Also I don’t exercise and I could tell.

  9. Crystal Nicole

I love your leggings! They are super cute! This looks like a super fun event, although I’d much prefer a bike bar ride LOL!

  10. Sheena Steward

This looks like so much fun! I have to see if we have something like this in Nashville. I love “we are not a race nor a riot: We are a free expression to celebrate the presence of a party wherever we are!!” It’s nothing like having good fun and bring out and experiencing your community.

  11. Foodie Finds Home

Gosh I miss living in the DC area. There are so many awesome things to do. This event looked like it was right up my alley and a whole lot of fun.

  12. Camesha | Mama Motivator

This sounds like so much fun! I’m cracking up at the ice cream dude. He was like “this is not a game!” So smart!

Side note: I probably ride a bike like a child too. It’s been a minute!

  13. Carissa Godbott

This sounds fun! We like riding bikes but we dont always have the time, but I would love to do something like this! And I know all about how your butt hurts because I had to get a new seat from the pain!

  14. Elle (CleverlyChanging)

I need to find someone to watch our girls so the next ride we can join you all. I’m all for exercising by cycling.

  15. Ola

This sounds so cool! My husband and I do something similar called the Late Ride. We start at midnight and ride 25 miles. It’s awesome!

  16. Terri

This is pretty cool. It’s so nice you have this in your community. I can’t remember the last time I rode a bike. I’m guessing I’ll get back to it once it’s time to teach my son to ride.

  17. Holly

Sounds like a good time and event. I just rode a bike the other day, although it wasn’t traditional. Glad they have something like this and that you had a nice time.

  18. Judaea

Love this got me wanting to do this as well

  19. Joyce Brewer

I miss riding a bike. I often tell our son that I was so fit as a child/teenager because I rode my bike everywhere in our neighborhood. This looks like the perfect day date!

    • MimiCuteLips

Oh, they days. I too love riding my bike, my girlfriends and I would get together and ride all over the neighborhood.
