On Monday I attended the What Women Want advanced screening. As a screening partner I gave away 30 Admit – 2 passes. They went like hotcakes. *Body Roll* to the Cuties that joined me. We packed out the Regal Cinema Theater in the Chinatown area of DC for a night of pure laughter.
I am not a person that gets hung up on reviews good or bad, if I want to see a movie I will see it period. With What Men Want my only expectation was laughter, but I got so much more in return. That is why you need to see it for yourself girl.
Passed up for a well-deserved promotion, sports agent Ali Davis wonders what else she needs to do to succeed in a man’s world. Hoping to find answers from a psychic, Ali drinks a weird concoction that suddenly allows her to hear what men are thinking. Using her newfound ability, Ali starts to turn the tables on her obnoxious male colleagues while racing to sign the next basketball superstar, but the lengths she has to go to will put her relationship with her best friends and a potential new love interest (Aldis Hodge) to the test.
I loved the movie, I laughed a lot, I talked to the screen a lot, and I got the lessons. Did I mention the new tricks I got for the bedroom too. There are sex scenes, they are not vulgar but they are intense. I’m just saying hide your kids. This movie has all the things we like, and make no mistake it is for the men too. This is not just chick flick!
We always hear that men and women want the same things. At the core of people we all want to be loved and respected and I totally get that. The how though is where things get off the table; learning ones love language is where the hang-ups come into play. The theme of the movie is “what we want” that isn’t just limited to men and women. In the movie you also see that scenario played out in different ways. You see a couple, a father and son relationship, friendships and the workplace dynamic. YOU will relate to at least one scenario I promise.
Favorite Characters: These too characters continuously gave me the most gut busting laughter.
Erykah Badu plays a character named Sister. She is a psychic that Taraji’s character meets at a Bachelorette Party. She tries to help Taraji by serving her up a cup of tea that has been doctored up a bit. Every time you see her on screen you will laugh. She reminded me of one of my girls and I love that even more.
Josh Brener plays a character named Brandon Wallace. He is the over worked, under paid assistant to Taraji’s character who is hilariously refreshing. He embodies so much of who I am and how I think. His facial expressions are timely. As someone who expresses my thoughts and feelings on my face without saying a word he was my spirit animal.
The other character I loved in What Men Want was the music. I don’t know who did it, but it was good. It was a bit of good throw back jams that had me body rolling and singing out loud in the theater. You know how you hear one of your old jams and it takes you back to a place. That was me the entire time.
I thought the idea of hearing what men are thinking might be fun, until I saw this movie. Men are basic AF and they think just the way I think they do. Sorry, fellas!
Post Credit Action: Don’t leave yet! After the credits start there is another scene, and then more credits, and then another scene. You’re welcome.
WHAT MEN WANT is in theaters Friday, February 8th
