Captain Marvel Is What Happens When You Have A Black Girlfriend

Hey Cuties,

Happy International Women’s Day! What are you doing to celebrate? If you are a fan of Sheroes then I totally recommend seeing Captain Marvel. The teen and I attended an advance screening on Tuesday, and today the movie it out in theaters.

CAPTAIN MARVEL PROVES WHY EVERYONE NEEDS A DOPE, BLACK GIRLFRIEND!

Lashana Lynch plays Maria Rambeau is an Air Force fighter pilot, and Carol Danvers’ (Brie Larson) best friend. I know her characters last name is not by mistake.  Their friendship is the best story in this movie, it is true to the friendships I have with my girls. You can be apart for years and when you get back together you pick up right where you left off. I can’t recall a movie that shows the depth of our friendships in this way. More than that it shows what is like to have a black woman as a friend. Our friendships are not the same as others, they just aren’t.

5 REASONS WHY YOU NEED A DOPE, BLACK GIRLFRIEND!

REASON #1: We are loyal AF and always have your back. There is NOTHING we can’t figure out, we are likely the most resourceful person you will come in contact with.

REASON #2: We will check you when you are wrong and still ride for you. We don’t have time for the BS so we are going to let you know where we stand while still loving you as a friend.

REASON #3: We are magical AF, and our talents are unmatched. We are resilient and strong and creative AF. You already know this, everyone loves to rip off our hairstyles, our looks, and our vernacular. Why? Because there is no other creature like US.

REASON #4: We are chameleons not just in our looks, but we adapt to any situation. We’ve been through some thangs and we always bounce back.

REASON #5: We are the worlds best fixers and everyone knows it. While this is a quality we possess we are often exhausted by shouldering the world on our shoulders. Either way, just know that we can and will when needed.

Samuel Jackson [Nick Fury] was hilarious, he was everything I love about Sam Jackson. His facial expressions, his quick wit, his commitment to drinking from the same glass in the scene was even funnier to me. I know nothing else about Nick Fury, but I am a fan.

My other favorite character was Akira Akbar [Monica Rambeau] She is the daughter of Maria Rambeau mentioned above. She is 11 years old in the movie and funny as ever, she reminds me of myself and LittleCuteLips. She is incredibly witty yet honest and it is hilariously refreshing. She isn’t grown though and that was the perfect balance of personality. I laughed at everything she had to say and I saw so much of myself in her. FUN FACT: She also played young Beth in This Is Us.

The Man-Child is a real Marvel fan so here is his perspective:

It was a funny movie, the CGI [computer generated imagery] and fight scenes were on point. The storyline was a little confusing in the beginning due to flashbacks, it threw me off a little bit. Once I thought about it I finally understood everything, and how it tied into all the other Marvel movies. I don’t have a favorite Marvel movie, but I feel like this might be one of the best ones. I was really entertained by this movie, and I’ve seen all of the Marvel movies. After watching I better understood how some of the other Marvel movies came to be, as in how it ties into the over Marvel storyline.  I recommend going to see it now, you need to see Captain Marvel if you want to see and understand the new Avengers: End Game coming out. STAY FOR THE POST CREDIT SCENES. I think this movie is good for kids in the double digits. Captain Marvel, it is more family friendly than past Avengers movies.

Happy International women’s day! Almost every post is a celebration of women today and how awesome is this! It’s black girl magic all over movies! We are kicking ass

  2. Lauren Floyd

Ha this headline is everything! I truly believe black women can take on anything. It’s in our genes.

  3. Shantel

As a diehard Marvel fan, this is one movie that I was not really eager to see at all. I think I might still go see it though just because I’ve seen every movie in the franchise.

Glad you enjoyed! 🙂 And really happy for both your and the man-child’s perspective for great balance. I often forget how dope (black) Nick Fury is (or that he even exists) since I’m not a teams kinda girl in comic universes.

It def struck me in his perspective that he speaks of the movies in terms of the Marvel universe. So I am interested in how well this story is told as it relates to the comics and original stories. Now I got questions and may go see, then reread 🤔🤓

Nick is is freaking hilarious, I would watch more Marvel to learn more about him. I need to ask my son about that.

Hahahahaha, go see and report back. I will have him answer your comment because I am sure I can’t.

I caught that stay for the post credits. Marvel is good for it. And you are right…everyone needs a good black girlfriend!

  8. Francesca Murray

I agree with all those reasons! It’s the same with my sisters, who are my best friends. They are loyal and tell it like it is!
I heard great things about Captain Marvel. Glad you enjoyed it!

  9. Tiffany Haywood

Thank you so much for the review! I’m not that big of a movie person but the kids that I mentor love to see movies and I like to take them to those that have a positive black influence in them. So, I know what we will be seeing next 😂. Also, can I just say that I love the mother son bond? My bambino is 6 and that is my rider! 🗣🗣🗣

    • MimiCuteLips

The girl power is pretty incredible in this movie. That alone makes it worth watching, but the dope black girl puts it over the top.
I love that, my kids are so different I love that I have my own thing with both of them. My 7-year-old is my shadow.

  11. jaye

I wasn’t really planning to see this but now I might. And kudos to you for making this review way more than about a movie.

  12. Nadalie Bardo

Hahah love it, that’s exactly what it is, or having a few black best friends. I really hope that this is all leading towards the first black female lead marvel movie with Monica Rambeau all grown up in the present.

  13. Elle (CleverlyChanging)

My new favorite thing about Marvel movies is that they are now putting sneaky additions in the credit section. It definitely gets me hyped about what’s next.

  14. Christiana

I can’t wait to see this movie! It looks so promising. Black women rock..and all the points you have listed are all so true.
