I was super excited about celebrating our 1 year wedding anniversary on April 19th. We were ready to jump on a plane and explore beautiful blue waters, but thanks to COVID-19 we are in the midst of a global pandemic. That means we’ve been following this Stay Home order for about six/seven weeks; and NO TRAVEL! *insert disappointment here*
My ideas were so good I shared them on Good Morning Washington!
While we were both disappointed I was still determined to celebrate, I just had to figure out what that would look like at home. April 19th meant we successfully survived our first year of marriage and 16 years of partnership. Oh, we doing something.
Then a dope idea popped into my mind, and I began to work on it. Once it started coming together I knew I had to share it with you. You already know how my creativity is set up, so you aren’t surprised. I created this “idea board” to bring my vision to life, and I built off of this.
A few days prior to dinner I sent Babe an invite to join me. Fun Fact: I remixed the invitation we went to our family + friends last year for our “Housewarming Party“. I used the exact color scheme and everything. I had Dretty make this fun caricature of us.
Quarantine Date Night: Anniversary Edition
Our formal dining room is empty so I decided to set up there. I was going to do it in the basement, but the kids weren’t having it. *eye roll* They lucky this room was better.
The Manchild served as our photographer and then we dismissed him. This was a kid-free anniversary date. But I appreciate the kids helping me with the setup. I got Babe’s socks from Target for Valentine’s Day. They were perfect for dinner. I wanted us to dress a little but still be comfortable. It was nice to pull myself together. I’ve been living in quarantine attire, you know leggings, sweats, tanks, and tees. At 2:30 AM in the morning, Babe gave me a haircut and then I plucked my brows, shaved my lip and colored my hair. Hell, I put makeup on, look at all of this effort and stuff.
I remixed items we already had at home and then mixed them in with some online purchases from Target. I had his Mr. & Mrs. Robinson sign made for us last year.
I found the napkins at Target, and I printed the water bottle labels myself.
Our color printer is totally janky and in need of new color cartridges. I couldn’t worry about that. I got what I got and made it work.
I’m a sucker for details, I was going to use note cards + note cardholders until I remembered we had this scrabble like letter blocks that spell out our name. That is an old purchase from Michael’s.
We don’t have names that you can find on a mug in the store, so I always buy our name when I see the letters available. It added a nice touch to the table.
The grub was from Famous Dave’s which is one of our favorite places to eat. Thank God they are still doing carryout/curbside. Their bbq is bomb and well, the corn muffins are life. Also, I get the Georgie Chopped Pork all the time, because if it ain’t broke…
I had a glass of Sutter Home Pink Moscato but it’s my favorite and I made us mini cakes. They aren’t a 100% Pinterest fail, but they are a solid 75% fail. It is a classic yellow cake that I made pink with food coloring. I got biscuit cutters from Target to make them circular. I should have consulted my baking Boo, Drea, before I started until after it didn’t work out the way Pinterest convinced me it would.
I created an Anniversary playlist on Tidal and we listened/sang to them while we enjoyed our dinner and chatter. Honestly, we both enjoyed this far more than we thought we would. So we left the pallet table so we can have another dinner.
This was our “photo wall” I got these from Target as well. While I did this to be creative and to celebrate our first wedding anniversary it was even better than I imagined. Babe doesn’t get all into my ideas, but he thought it was really dope. He probably sent pics to his homeboys without telling me. I don’t care, cause that’s his business.
