Hey Cuties,
I’m super excited and looking forward to Halloween this year. I’ve committed to really going above and beyond celebrating holidays in our home this year due to the pandemic. This year we are doing Halloween at Home, that’s right the show will go on. It will only be the four of us, but I’ve got it all planned out. I’m sharing my tips so you can plan yours out too. You have four days to pull it off and that is plenty of time. I shared these tips on Good Morning Washington, take a look.
Thanks to Good Morning Washington for having me.
Here are tips for Halloween Safely at Home. Do what you will, but be safe about it.
Tip 1: Wear a costume
The best part of Halloween had always been making DIY costumes. This year is no different for me, my costume is a DIY. You will have to wait until Halloween to see it on the gram. However, my daughter wanted a costume from Party City so I ordered her one. My teen has decided to remix last year’s costume. I got this fun skeleton chair cover from the Dollar Tree. Don’t be afraid to dress up your chairs too.
Tip 2: Festive Decor
This was such a fun one to do. I purchased the candle from IKEA and dripped a red birthday candle on it to make the blood effect. You can also melt a red crayon to get the same look. Click HERE for a tutorial on how I did it.
Tip 3: Fun Arts and Crafts
This was easy and fun to see it come to life. I used a mason jar I already had, cotton balls I already owned, and I got the fun spiders from The Dollar Tree. Click HERE to see a quick tutorial on how I did it.
Tip 4: Candy Favors
These candy hands were by far the easiest thing to do. I got the bags from Michael’s (Halloween decor is discounted.) and they are like a ziplock bag. I got the candy from the Dollar Tree and added these silly rings to finish the look. The rings were a variety pack from Dollar Tree as well. Click HERE for a quick tutorial on how I put them together.
Tip 5: Games
I got these white cups from Target and made the random faces with a Sharpie. I stacked them up and we tossed ping pong balls at them to see who could knock them all down. Have a ghostly good time. Click HERE to see my kids playing a version of this game.
Tip 6: Place settings
I picked up these cute place settings from Joann’s. They have a great selection, I got the table cloth, plates, cups, and napkins. My daughter and I had fun deciding on the theme. I got this cute pumpkin from the At Home Store. I added one of my Dollar Tree spiders ontop to be extra.
Tip 7: Scavenger Hunt
It ain’t tricking if you ain’t treating. So I’ve come up with a fun scavenger hunt for the kids to do. I think I’m most excited about that part. I will give them 5 clues that will have them running all over the house. Each right answer will lead them to a bag of candy, cash, or a gift card. My kids are 8 and 16 so these are more fun for their ages. If your kids are younger you can do candy, snacks, a small toy, or an activity book. You make up the rules so you can’t go wrong.
Tip 8: Festive Food
Food will be another element of decor for our party. I’ve found a lot of dope food options on Pinterest. I’m obsessed with charcuterie boards so I’m going to make one. This pic above is the inspiration I’m going for. I want more finger foods so chicken wings will be on the menu for sure.
Tip 9: Halloween Movie
We will finish off our Halloween Safely at Home night with a movie. I’ve already seen The Witches, but the rest of the family has not. This is a remake of a 1990 film with the same title. I’ve not seen the original, but I really enjoyed this one. Also, note I’m the girl who doesn’t like scary stuff so trust it isn’t that bad. I also laughed a lot. Chr
Reimagining Roald Dahl’s beloved story for a modern audience, Robert Zemeckis’s visually innovative film tells the darkly humorous and heartwarming tale of a young orphaned boy who, in late 1967, goes to live with his loving Grandma in the rural Alabama town of Demopolis. As the boy and his grandmother encounter some deceptively glamorous but thoroughly diabolical witches, she wisely whisks him away to a seaside resort. Regrettably, they arrive at precisely the same time that the world’s Grand High Witch has gathered her fellow cronies from around the globe—undercover—to carry out her nefarious plans. Zemeckis is joined by a world-class team of filmmakers, including Alfonso Cuarón, Guillermo del Toro, and Kenya Barris. The cast includes powerhouse performances from Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci, Kristin Chenoweth, and Chris Rock, with newcomer Jahzir Kadeen Bruno as the brave young hero.
The pandemic has taken a lot away from us, but it has also given us some things too. Don’t just write off the year, there is still good to be had. I will share pics of our night of Halloween Safely at Home on the gram. So stay tuned. You can also check out some of my past Halloween fun here, here, and here.

Great tips Mimi! I especially liked the gloved filled with candies. We will be watching the Witches movie too safely at home!
I really enjoyed it. Thanks a bunch!
You are so creative! My kind of spirit girl and congrats on you show segment!!
Thanks, I always have a good time on TV.
I admire how creative you are. I’ve got to get on board before next Halloween. We just sat around, watched The Blair Witch Project and ate candy. Very low key.
That’s not a terrible idea either. lol
Good tips! Things are so different this year. People have really had to think outside the box.
They really did. We can pivot but still make it special.
This is very nice. And I love that you went above and beyond to make it special for your family. I really like this version of Witches better than the original.
Thanks! I’ve not seen the first one but I enjoyed this one so much. I won’t watch the original. lol
This is so cool, I love the decoration ideas!
Thanks a bunch!
