Hey Cuties,
This week I’ve submerged myself into all things imaginative and whimsical while tapping into my younger self. When I allowed my mind to run free and didn’t worry about if it made sense or not. Yesterday I saw the screening of Disney’s A Wrinkle In Time. There are no spoilers, so keep reading. A Wrinkle in Time opens in theaters Friday, March 9th. Grab the family and go see, you don’t need kids to see this movie. You don’t have to take someone else’s kids to see this movie. Just go see the movie.
Meg Murry and her little brother, Charles Wallace, have been without their scientist father, Mr. Murry, for five years, ever since he discovered a new planet and used the concept known as a tesseract to travel there. Joined by Meg’s classmate Calvin O’Keefe and guided by the three mysterious astral travelers known as Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which, the children brave a dangerous journey to a planet that possesses all of the evil in the universe.
Before there was a movie there were books:
A Wrinkle in Time―One of the most significant novels of our time. This ground-breaking science-fiction and fantasy story is the first of five in the Time Quintet series about the Murry family. The books are authored by Madeleine L’Engle.
A Wind in the Door―When Charles Wallace falls ill, Meg, Calvin, and their teacher, Mr. Jenkins, must travel inside C.W. to make him well, and save the universe from the evil Echthros.
A Swiftly Tilting Planet―The Murry and O’Keefe families enlist the help of the unicorn, Gaudior, to save the world from imminent nuclear war.
Many Waters―Meg Murry, now in college, time travels with her twin brothers, Sandy and Dennys, to a desert oasis that is embroiled in war.
An Acceptable Time―While spending time with her grandparents, Alex and Kate Murry, Polly O’Keefe wanders into a time 3,000 years before her own.
The legendary Oprah Winfrey plays Mrs. Which. Reese Witherspoon plays Mrs. Whatsit. Mindy Kaling plays Mrs. Who.
Gugu Mbatha-Raw plays Mrs. Murry, I loved her in Beyond the Lights. Chris Pine plays Mr. Murry, and Storm Reid plays Meg.
Zach Galifianakis is also in the movie, He plays Happy Medium. I think he is so dag on funny. I can’t wait to see what he does in this movie. Bellamy Young aka Madam President on Scandal is also in the movie. I’ve never seen her in anything else so I’m curious about her role in this one.
Before the screening started A Wrinkle in Time Director, Ava Duvernay came on with a really sweet message.
Here is the trailer, take a peak.
I’ve never read any of the books in the series and I didn’t really know what the story was about. I intentionally didn’t seek out information on the movie because I wanted to go in with no expectations. Here are my thoughts.
5 Reasons You Need To See A Wrinkle In Time
#1 Costume & Make Up: The costumes are freaking incredible. The makeup is glittery and beautiful and the hair is creatively stunning. I had all the ideas while I was watching the movie. My peak creativity was like I want to be all of these people for Halloween so I can DIY these looks.
#2 Visual Effects: Every single scene is better than the last. They really make you feel like you are in another Universe. Whimsical is what comes to mind every time, but I need a bigger word to fully capture what you see on the screen. You will forget that you are sitting in a theater.
#3 Charles Wallace: He was my absolute favorite character in the entire freaking movie. From the minute he opened his mouth I knew that I was going to love him. Charles Wallace is the youngest member of the Murry Family. He is the little brother to the main character Meg, played by Storm Reid.
#4 Mrs. WhatsIt: Of all the Mrs., Mrs. Whatsit played by Reese was my absolute favorite. I saw so much of me in her. She had me laughing the entire time. While other people find me funny, I frequently amuse myself.
#5 Lessons: The overarching theme of the movie is about positivity. The examples of the importance of the power of the tongue; be it in a positive way or a negative way.

I’m so excited to see this movie with my kids! I’m already trying to prepare myself for how stunning the visuals are going to be. And I’m so happy Gugu is back in another Disney movie! I hope to see her in more Disney films.
Girl, the visuals are so freaking stunning. I didn’t realize Gugu was in the movie until a few days ago. I loved her in Beyond the Lights, I hadn’t seen any of her other work. Disney is a good look for her. I plan to take my kids this weekend as well.
We are so excited to see this movie. I am more exited than the kids.
I totally get it and there is nothing wrong with that. Enjoy!
I definitely wanna see it because of the hair/makeup and visual effects. Sadly I never read the book as a kid ?. I feel like I need to read it before I go see it. This is definitely on my list to go see.
Sheena I would say read it after you see it. Books provide way more detail than a movie ever can. Visually though OH MY GOSH, you are in for a treat.
I do plan on seeing this movie with my daughter. I think we’ll really enjoy it. Plus I like so many actors in the film.
It is a great movie to watch with the kids. They will have so much to talk about afterward.
The costumes alone make it worth seeing. Even if the movie is boring, I can see being visually entertained.
They really do Lisa, I was so blown away by them. Even better they have a lot of costume changes. O_o
I’ve seen a good number of people mentioning the book recently. I don’t recall the book at all, and have debted if maybe I should read that first before possibly seeing it.
I only know of the book because my son had to read it last year for school. What I did learn was that it was a 4 part series. I had no idea.
I say see the movie, then read all four books.
I’m am so very excited to see this movie. A Wrinkle In Time looks amazing and with that cast it can’t miss!!
They did an incredible job with the casting. They each fit their role perfectly.
I am so excited to see this movie. Disney’s 2018 slate of movies has been amazing thus far and I know this adaptation of the book I loved as a kid won’t disappoint plus it’s got Oprah. ‘Nuff said right there.
Yes, Disney is already hitting them out of the park and we are only three months into the new year.
I read this book as a kid and I loved it so I cannot wait to see this movie. There is so much in this movie that makes me want to see it. These five reasons are definitely on my list of why I want to see the movie.
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts after you see it.
We screened the movie this week too and loved it. I’m a big fan of the book series so this was exciting to see it on the big screen. I love the theme of positivity and light.
That is awesome, the theme was so simple and basic yet so freaking huge.
This was one of my favorite books as a kid! They made a movie a long time ago… but it kind of was “eh” so I’m SO excited to see this one!
Oh wow, I didn’t know that. Go see this one, it will make up for the “eh” one that came out.
I love all the reasons that you mentioned. It’s a beautiful movie and it’s definitely worth seeing.
Thanks, Alison. I can’t wait to see it with my family.
Oh my goodness, I love Zach. I have ever since I saw a couple of his movies a while back. Can’t wait to see this.
Zach is hilarious no matter what he does I’m convinced.
Great preview! I didn’t know there was a book version of this movie. After reading this preview I might have to check out this movie.
It might surprise you Jay.
I’ve heard so many great things about this movie. This cast is AMAZING and wow what great reasons to see it.
I really loved the casting, including the new faces I’d not seen before.
Ohhh, another great movie to see this year. I guess I will be scheduling another date with my girlfriends to be able to watch this. Couldn’t agree more on your list.
It is a good girl’s day out, grab something to eat too.
I cannot wait to take my daughter to see Wrinkle in Time with me! We read the book last summer and we cannot wait to see the all star cast!
Oh, this is a perfect girl’s day out.
I plan to see it and like you I already habe costume ideas swirling in my head. I cant wait to see it!
Right, Leslie you almost can’t help yourself.
I didn’t know about the movie or the book until my daughter told me that she wanted the book for Christmas. Her timing was impeccable because I found out about the movie shortly after. I’m really looking forward to taking her and hearing her thoughts about it.
That is impeccable timing for sure.
I can’t wait to see this movie! There are so many incredible actresses in it! I know it’s going to be great.
Enjoy it is in theaters today.
I am so excited for this movie! I loved this book as a kid and I can’t wait to see it brought to life!
You are in for a treat.
I saw it twice and it might be a 3rd time if my 10 yr old niece really wants me to go with her. Its such an amazing movie, I did my review on it today and its like the Law of Attraction for kids!!
The law of attraction was an excellent lesson for the kids. I loved that, I’m taking the kids to see it. My son read the book last summer.
The cast is brilliant and amazing and I could not be more happy with them. I think this movie is going to make a mark, especially since the story is fantastic and there’s plenty of lessons to learn from it.
I hope so.
Ok I’m loving the hair and makeup already just from those pictures. I really looking forward to seeing this. I just wish I read the book prior.
Terri the book is a 4 part series and the movie only focuses on one book. I would say read them after.
I’m looking forward to the movie with my kids. I need to read the book first because I’ve never read it and would love to see how the movie compares to the book. Definitely looking forward to this movie.
I never feel like movies can live up to the books. There isn’t enough time, yet I still read the books. lol
A Wrinkle In Time looks like a spectacular movie with real and positive messages. The trailer promises an absorbing move to watch with the entire family. Will watch in a theatre near us.
Yes! It is the perfect movie that all kids should see.
Oh, I totally want to see this movie. The actors, costumes, and visual effects all look great!
They really are.
Oh yes! I MOST DEFINITELY plan on seeing this movie. I didn’t read the whole series, but I did read this one. When they first started showing the trailer, I’m pretty sure I whooped a little. LOL. I hope it does well enough for them to make movies from the other books in the series. Being in an interracial marriage myself, (no kids) I love that whole angle. I don’t remember if it was like that in the book, but I hope that it’s an accurate portrayal. And I LURVE me some Chris Pine. I’ll just about see anything that he’s in. LOL
Hahahahahaha Yes, Whop!
This looks like a great movie for the fam to watch. I always love seeing the creative costumes and makeup, hopefully it will be easy to recreate the looks for Halloween(my favorite holiday!!!). Good to know that there is a book series, I might have to find it at a local bookstore. Thanks for sharing!
Oh Via, this is a Halloween gold mine let me tell you. I can’t wait to recreate this one too.
Really wasn’t too interested initially but because of Ava, Oprah, and your lovely 5 reasons listed here!
They kind of wear you down a bit.
I definitely plan to see this movie. I think it will be great. I agree with all your reasons.
I hope you had a chance to view it Ramona.
I agree, ‘Wrinkle in Time’ is visually stunning and the makeup alone is beautiful! I definitely want to see Oprah and Reese but I also love Chris Pine’s work. Surprised to hear that Bellamy Young is in it, but she’s great too. She had a short role on ‘Criminal Minds’ before ‘Scandal’ took over (lol).
Her role was funny and different from what I’m used to with her on Scandal.
