I am finally sharing my Bacon Fried Rice in a blog post. I’ve posted Insta-Stories of me making it and my DM’s always fill up. So as promised, here are the details and the recipe so you can make it yourself. Yes, Bacon Fried Rice is a thing and it is delicious. It is like any other fried rice you’ve had except the meat is bacon instead of shrimp, check, or whatever. Next time I’m going to change it up and add in some chicken.
Don’t be afraid to try it and put your own spin on it, you can easily add in corn and carrots or other meats.
Ingredients for Bacon Fried Rice:
3 Large Eggs + 8 oz Bacon + Medium Onion + 1 tbsp. Vegetable Oil + 5 cups Cooked Rice + Salt (to taste) + Pepper (to taste) + 1 tsp. Sugar + 2 tbsp. Soy Sauce
Above is what the recipe I used the first time, below are the measurement-ish I used. I have a family of four and they love bacon fried rice so I make far more than the recipe calls for. I make enough for each person to have two bowls each for two nights.
6 Eggs + (2) lbs/packs Bacon + Medium Red Onion + Sesame Oil (more flavor) + 6 bags of Rice + salt + pepper + Sugar + Soy Sauce (enough to brown the rice)
I don’t measure my oil, I just pour enough to coat my wok. You can try a variety of oils, they give the rice more flavor.
I buy the Family Size box of Success Rice, and I used 6 bags. It’s easy, you boil for 10 minutes and it is done.
I buy Oscar Mayer bacon from Costco, so my packs are 1 lb, which is larger than the standard size you get in the grocery store.
I don’t measure the sugar, I just flavor it to taste. It balances out the salt in the soy sauce but doesn’t make it sweet.
I don’t measure the soy sauce, I pour and stir. The goal is to turn the rice brown but not saturate it with soy sauce.
Bacon Fried Rice Recipe:
Cut up the bacon (1-inch pieces), and dice the onion before you start cooking.
While cutting your ingredients cook the rice.
Tip: Buy diced onions to make it easier and save your eyeballs the trouble.
Tip: I cut the bacon when it is semi-frozen, it is easier to cut and managed the small pieces. If you want to totally defrost the bacon before cooking it, you can defrost it in the microwave, in water, and in the oven according to Simully.
In the beginning, you make everything separately before bringing it all together.
Heat the oil in your wok (Mine came from Ikea $9.99) or a nonstick frying
Cook your scrambled eggs, once done put in a bowl and set aside.
Cook the bacon, I cook mine until it is a pretty brown crisp, strain the grease and set aside.
Toss your diced onions in the pan and cook them until they are translucent.
Add your rice back into your wok/frying pan and stir-fry for 2 -5 minus.
Add in the soy sauce, enough to turn your rice brown. Tip: If you use a wok don’t forget that the soy sauce will pool in the bottom middle so make sure you stir it up.
Add in salt, pepper, and sugar-based on taste.
Lastly, add your scrambled eggs and cooked bacon.
As you mix everything up taste it and decide you need more of this or that. If you want more soy sauce add some, soy sauce can be high in sodium so keep that in mind if blood pressure is important to you.
You can have yours plain or top it with green onions. We have ours with green Tabasco sauce, but Yum yum sauce is also good with it. Enjoy!
