Hey Cuties,
On Friday my sister, cousins and I hit the road for an impromptu road trip. By impromptu, I mean solidified within a week, booked a hotel, decided what vehicle we were taking, and got on the road. That also included three pep talks with LittleCuteLips who didn’t want me to go anywhere.
My cousin Keisha asked if we could come to visit Thais because she hadn’t been doing well. I shared Thais’ story back in November during Pancreatic Cancer Month. Last summer we surprised her while she was in the hospital and it did wonders for her spirit and appetite. Our goal was to do the same thing this time.
We live in the DC area so Columbia, South Carolina is a legit 8-hour ride for us. For the most part, we have the same cast of characters, you should be used to seeing them. You know when you have to do something but you don’t want to do it. But then when you start the motions you began to get excited about it. That was this trip. The great thing about four people on an 8-hour road trip means we are only obligated to drive for 2 hours. If you get the urge to keep it going, great but the expectation is only 2 hours. That is the biggest fight Babe and I have, I always want him to do all the driving.
Before we left we came up with a theme for our trip because we like to do the most. In 2016 we did a cousin trip to Key West, this was our second cousin adventure. The first was in 2004 in Williamsburg, VA. In the interest of that same theme, we decided to go for a Cousin Slumber Party. We decided on some games we could play, who would bring what, and I decided what we would wear. Say it with me… ONESIES!!! Yup, don’t act like you didn’t see my Unicorn Happy Hour, you aren’t surprised. I packed my new favorite onesie and grabbed one for Thais.
One of our greatest joys in life is food, duh. Now when we head south this means we get to enjoy some food we don’t have at home. Zaxby’s is one of our favorites, they only have like five things on the menu but it is so freaking good. So much so we ate their two out of the three days we were in town. #FatSnacks
Look at this buttery deliciousness that is Texas Toast, it comes with your meal. The fried chicken is juicy and tasty, the fries come with seasoning and they are crinkly. Those are my favorite type of friends, then the Zax sauce is the icing on the cake.
Although this was a cousin trip on Saturday my Mommy (far right) and Aunt drove the 8 hours to see Thais as well. When it comes to family, we show up period. Make no mistake they weren’t a part of our cousin slumber party, they aren’t in our generation. They had their own room at our hotel. We laughed and joked with the two of them and my other Aunt for a couple of hours. We love to tell stories and life happens and for some reason, it makes our time even funnier. Like when Faye (far left) plugged in her cell phone and we saw a fire, heard a loud pop, and watched smoke coming out of the outlet. Nobody even moved although it was scary and hilarious. When she took the plug out the prongs were still smoking and the metal was a bit ate up. Ummm! WTF! Did I mention it left the outlet black?
After kicking it with the family we headed to Target. Come on, you had to know that. Back Story: Thais had been in the hospital and got out the morning we arrived. She was really looking forward to our arrival and wasn’t going to let anything stop her from doing so. We got to Target and put her in the electric wheelchair (We forgot the foot pedals to her wheelchair so we couldn’t use it.) because Thais is blind her big sister shared the single seat with her and did the driving. They looked crazy, but we weren’t going to leave anyone out.
We headed to our hotel suite to get ready for our Cousin Slumber Party. Thais did not come with us on the Key West Cousin Trip, so this was us bringing a Cousin “trip” to her via this slumber-party. A few of them ran out and got grub while we put our onesies on and chatted it up a bit. After eating it was time for Magical Rainbow Juice, music, and games. By the by, this is the absolute best onesie I’ve ever owned. It is made out of sweatshirt material and I got them for the family for Christmas.
The gang is all here, we’ve got our onesies on and we are ready to gamble. The night was great, we played the game Left Right Center, my sister was the only one that has previously played it. It is super easy and you don’t have to play with money. Because we like a thrill we played with quarters and dimes. We had so much fun, Faye won twice and Ty won once. We were up until 2 AM, laughing joking, and playing Pictionary on a dry erase board. Oh, these broads are perimenopausal (not medically diagnosed) and kept turning the AC on and off all weekend long. I have a lot more pictures but they are half-dressed in most of them because they kept getting hot. Perhaps if we had access to hand blown glass pipes or some bongs, we could also have had puff some CBD. But sadly, none of us had thought about it back then. But yeah, right, maybe we weren’t ready for it yet. Next time folks!
Because Thais didn’t come on our last cousin’s trip she didn’t have a shirt. We discussed our shirts during our visit in July and talked about what she would say if she had one. I made a note on my phone of all of our ideas because I’m forgetful. Faye and I also need a new shirt, we have touched and agreed on sayings that are more fitting to us. We will get those when we plan our next trip and have shirts made again for everyone.
I had the idea of having a shirt made for Thais as a surprise but we had a really tight window to get it done. In a rush, I sent my brother-in-law what I thought were the correct words for her shirt. As it turned out THEY WERE NOT. That is what I get for rushing, however, the back of the shirt was fine. EPIC FAIL! I didn’t know I had made this major flub until we were about to get on the road. Even in failure, I don’t half-ass it; I used my whole ass. *eye roll* My sister was able to phone a friend and she worked a miracle for us. This delayed our departure for an hour but it was more than worth it when we handed Thais her shirt.
You know we had to get a back shot. We are missing #6 and #8. One of these days the gang will all be here.
This was a short trip, but it was much needed. There is something about laughter that recharges the soul. We aren’t perfect, we fuss, we disagree, but we are family and we have way more fun together than we do apart. We grew up like sisters, that is a foundation our parents built. I love that we have maintained and strengthen that foundation by choice as adults. We are all we got!
Have you ever done an adult slumber party? Chat with me in the comments below or FB, IG, and Twitter.
Love this!!!!!
Thanks, Boo!
We had so much freakin fun!!! I laughed so hard at y’all. So glad you all made the trip down. Next time we are hanging out in my hood, Charleston, SC.
The entire time I’m reading your blog, I was praying that as I scrolled down there were no half naked picture or hysterical videos of me on that motor cart in Target.
BTW MimiCuteLips blogger friends, I am #2 and the polar bear-wearing onesie owner in the pics.
Yes, I’m really excited about checking out Charleston, SC. I will have my camera in hand.
Hhahahahahaha, I try to keep it clean around here. Although those pictures are hilarious.
I can’t wait to do it again.
Keisha, I was looking for that Target wheelchair picture☺️!! Your cousin did an excellent job with blogging this adventure. I know you guys had a blast!!! Great memories made I’m sure?.
Thanks, Stacey. I so wanted to post the video I took of them. That is even better than a picture. lol

Thanks, I try to write the way we act. I want them to get the full experience. hahaha Love ya!
I loved this! You seem very family centric and that’s such a beautiful quality! Looks like so much fun!
I am, it is the way I grew up. My sister is 6.5 years older than me so I really valued having cousins my age.
Looks like you ladies had a great time. I wish I had cousins to do this with. Family is everything.
They are for sure, we had so much fun. It’s like being kids all over again. We never invite our kids. hahaha
This was such a fabulous idea. I love this! And the way your family sticks together is really heartwarming.
Thanks, being close is all we know.
This was an awesome read!!!!! Your ideas are so fun, full of love and creativity!
Thanks so much Meka, that is the perfect way to summarize me.
Great Post! I have family in Andrews, SC so I know that drive… lol
I’m glad y’all got it visit your cousin and support her in her battle. Family is everything!
P.S. Y’all make me wanna throw a PJ party. 😉
Best wishes and healing prayer for your cousin. ??
Jazz
Thanks, that ride is a hump.
I love my crazy family, and if it were me I would want them to show up as well.
You totally should, it is so much fun.
Thanks.
This is so awesome! My cousins and I have been trying to do this for so long. It’s so hard to coordinate with our schedules and family life. I know we would have tons of fun because that’s how we are. When we do get together it’s nothing but laughs and good times. Thanks for sharing!
I love that, just do it. Everyone can’t make it every time but as long as we keep doing it at some point everyone will be able to make it.
Im festive like this! I love your family and think you all are adorable! Love it and I am inspired to have my own family gatherings more with cousins!
Thanks, I love that we are still so close. Part of the reason is because we are all girls. You totally should.
I loved this, I’m so glad that you are able to take the slumber party to your cousin. No I want to do as slumber party with my cousins (i tried to organize a cruise that was a fail so I just went with my other side of the family) I’m pretty sure she will forever be grateful for the memories and will you all.
It was so much fun, make it happen.
This is such a cute idea to have a cousin’s slumber party! My cousins have tried to plan a family reunion for years. This is a wonderful solution to celebrate with your cousins! I love it! Great pictures too!
Yes, it is a lot of fun. Go for it, don’t wait for tomorrow.
I love the shirts! I still have to try Zaxbys don’t judge me lol. Is it sad that I knew you were in Target from that picture? I spend a lot of time there lol. I think it is cool that you have a cousins trip. It sounds so much.
Thanks, Holly. The shirts are so much fun. I can wait to order more for our next trip.
Girl, you must try it.
hahahahahaha if this was your picture I would know you were in Target too. They got us.
I don’t think I have ever done anything like this, but I think I need to book one. It sounds like you guys had an absolute BLAST!
We did, you can do it so many ways. It should all end in laughs and good times.
Sounds like a fun idea and a fun time. Wonderful you are so close to your cousins and can get away and have fun being together like this.
Yes, I’m so thankful for the bond we have. I realize that everyone isn’t able to have that.
What a fun trip. You were in my neck of the woods. I would love to do a cousin trip with my cousins! We all grew up together and we only see each other once a year. Love the t-shirts!!
Oh wow, I didn’t realize that. Yes, you gals should totally do it.
This has to be the cutest cousin slumber party that I’ve seen. I think it’s really nice that you guys try as much as you can to spend time together. I love the shirts and the fact that you guys come up with a theme!
It is nice to unwind in a different type of way. We leave the men and our kids at home and just enjoy one another.
This sounds like a fabulous time! I don’t think I’ve ever had a cousin slumber party. A Zaxby’s just opened up nearby. I might have to go after seeing your photo!
OMG, go Amber. It is so good.
What a fun time! One of the things I hate about having such a small family (it’s literally my grandma, mom, sister and I) is the fact that I don’t have cousins. At least I have all my girlfriends 🙂
Oh wow, that is tough. Girlfriends are the sisters God didn’t create for us. I love my girlfriends like they are my sisters.
This is so much fun! It’s so nice that you get to bond with your cousins and plan a trip with them when you can. I love how close you all are!
We are so close and distance makes it hard sometimes. But, we work at it which is how the cousin trips started.
I want a cousins slumber party. A few of us were going to get together in Nashville in December but the snow came and ruined that so we postponed it to February. I don’t know what Mother Nature has in store but hopefully no more snow as my cousins and I are so overdue for a visit.
You should totally have one. I’m sending good vibes so you guys can meet up this month and have fun.
Awww, I wish I was close to my cousins so we could do this. Maybe I could do a girlfriends trip. I love your t-shirts!!
Yes, you guys totally should. We will d it on a regular basis.
You look like you all had so much fun! I am extremely close with my cousins as well, so I can totally relate with you!
Yes, I love that.
Ah, it so nice to have cousins. Probably like having a bunch of best friends. I don’t have any cousins.
That is exactly what it is like Heather. A bunch of best friends, and we are all girls rather close in age.
This sounds like a wonderful experience. Glad you had a great time! I would love to have a slumber party with my own cousins now!!
It was the best slumber party ever. Now I want to do them more often. We only think of them as things kids do.
It’s the impromptu trips that usually happens. It looks like you all had a great time with the road trip.
We had such a good time, growing up we took road trips all the time.
I want to have a cousin slumber party! I am loving those shirts, I wonder what mine would be? It seems like you ladies had a great time!
Coming up with what to put on the shirts was tough. Some were easier than others, some we recently came up with.
I love those shirts! You gave me a great idea for our family get together. I will suggest this for our Christmas 2018 party. It would be a fun photo-op for the kids! It sure feels nice to have a close knit family!
Yay! I love that. They make a really cute photo-op for sure.
I am so glad ya’ll got to spend some quality time together. It is hard to beat family time.
It really is Sara.
You girls are all so amazing. I really love the shirts you have!
Thanks, Kita. We are a good time.
Looks like you all had an amazing time. I love this idea so much! What a great idea for a reunion with just the girls. The t-shirts are awesome too.
Thanks, we believe in fun as often as possible.
I love this! You guys remind me of my sisters <3 also, I know I'm not a cousin but I want a t-shirt! Please and thanks LOL
Yes! God didn’t give us a ton of sisters so cousins were the compromise. We will make you an honorary cousin. You have already traveled with four of us.
Now you ladies looked like you had a great time, and sleep overs are the best!
They really are, we need to have them more often.
What a great way to catch up with family and show your support as well! I wish I had this many cousins because I would do this with them!
Even if you only have a handful, still do it.
That’s so sweet that you drove 8 hours to see Thais! That is quite a drive but family time is so worth it. I love playing games and hanging out, I should try to round up some cousins for a road trip and slumber party
We go so hard for our family. You totally should, you guys would have fun.
I love how you all came together and had a great time !! I really enjoyed reading how much fun you all had. And the magic unicorn drink thing was pretty awesome. I had to click the link to find out what it was all about.
At the end of the day, family matters the most. So nice to see you all are so close.
You need to experience the Magic Unicorn drink, it is delicious.
I go so hard for my family, that is the way I was raised.
