Hey Cuties,
June is here and that means graduations, weddings and Father’s Day. We will be celebrating all of those this month with family and friends. My boy is up next, middle school here he comes. At the same time I’m getting ready for Father’s Day. Men get a bad rap; some deserve it and others not so much. Mother’s Day is like a week-long event and Father’s Day is like a ten minute event. For the past 12 years I’ve made sure Father’s Day was a big deal in our home; even when Babe only wanted to work in the garage. I couldn’t do it without him and I want him to know he is needed, wanted and appreciated.
Over the years I’ve crafted things for Babe, got him a GoPro back when they were new. A variety of dope customized gifts because I’m that girl. This year has proven to be no different. Full Disclosure: I sometimes get so excited about my gifts that I can’t wait until the day he is actually supposed to get them. This was one of those gifts. He has other things coming but I couldn’t keep this one to myself.
This is an easy craft and no prior crafting experience needed.. Canvas art is one of the easiest things to do. It is already mounted and framed for you. I’ve done one with paint and crayon, while they are all different they are also easy and fun.
As always my DIY’s are for fun, so get creative, make them your own. There is no wrong way to do it. I decided to go with the word DAD but you can do letters, shapes or anything else you think of.
I used my cricut to cut out the letters that I was going to use. I cut them at 6.5 1/2 inches and my canvas is a 16 x 20. I did some faux measuring to make sure the placement was good. I made a couple pencil markings so I could take a look from a distance.
My placement is good so I traced my letters onto my canvas.
I played around with a few materials I already had to get a feel for what I wanted to use and how they would look. I had some other creative things in my crafting area so I included things that would fit well with my vision. ie: the motorcycle and mustache
I had some of these already, I acquired some from Babe without telling him what I was doing and why I needed them. When he didn’t give me enough I went out and purchased some. You can get a little baggy full for a buck and some change. DO NOT SPEND MORE THAN A BUCK AND SOME CHANGE! I included the actual names that were listed on the bag. I don’t know which is which or what they mean but that is at least what they are called. I secured them with Goop glue because I was out of E6000 and the nearest store was out of stock. It did the trick. Note: Make sure your glue drys clear. If it doesn’t dry clear it won’t be cute.
I just placed the items along my pencil outline. This keeps them neat and you can’t see the line anymore. There is no right or wrong way to place things. I got a little creative and added in some things that are special to Babe.
Keep going until you have filled up the entire thing. I included 2004 because that is when he became a Dad.
In the A I included a motorcycle because he is a rider and a mustache. I like the mustache, he keeps a mustache and it was perfect for the triangle in the middle.
I included 2012 in this D because that is when Babe became a Dad again.
In the lower right corner I included 2016 so he will know what year it was made. This will be most helpful when he is old and doesn’t remember. 😉
See that easy, this entire DIY cost less than $20; even cheaper if you have some of the materials at home like I did. You can get a blank canvas from your local Michael’s or any other craft store.
