Valentine’s Day is approaching along with a three-day weekend and I know y’all are making plans. Beyoncé has you all hype, so book your reservations at Red Lobster as soon as possible. We will celebrate your love on top mid-November. If you have need something to wear, then The Style Medic and I have you covered. We are sharing DIY shirts you can rock to celebrate love; any way you like it.
Now let me tell you how to make your own. You know its MimiCuteLips month so it was only right that I do a DIY Lip Shirt tutorial, however you can apply this technique to the design of your choice.
You can put this on the shirt of your choice, you could even do it on a denim jacket or bag. Stencil: I used my Cricut Machine to make my cut out; using the Indie Art cartridge. I think my machine is the best cutter for vinyl and paper so I would recommend it if you’re looking for one. You can print out an image you like and use an x-acto knife to cut the image out. If you can draw you can free hand an image or letters.
I’ve got my stencil in place and I used washi tape to secure it to my sweater. You can use the tape of your choice, just make sure it keeps your image in place. Place a piece of cardboard inside of your shirt; this will keep you from getting paint on the back side of your shirt.
I traced my image using a fine tip sharpie, pencil probably would have been better.
I placed part of my cut out back on my image so I could capture the details of the lips. It would still be cute without them.
I’ve traced everything and now my template is set.
I used fabric paint and I just went with a red. They didn’t have my perfect pink so this was the next best thing. I cut out my stencil on paper and sticky vinyl decal. I used the sticky parts to fill in my lip. This way I could just pain and I didn’t have to be extra careful around the details of the lip.
I wanted a true red so I painted it once, let it try then painted a second layer of paint. It is perfect!
I freaking love, love, love, love it. So I had to put it on and work it.
