Hey, Cuties,
We are celebrating another year here on the blog today. Run and get a class filled with something, put on a party hat if you have one on hand and tear up some paper and toss it like confetti. Tomorrow MimiCuteLips officially turns seven years old.
When I started this blog I wanted an outlet outside of motherhood. I felt like after I had become a mom it negated all the other amazing things that made me, Mi. I embraced being a Mom 100% for the first two years; I was figuring things out like any new Mom. I was breastfeeding my son, navigating a breast pump, and working at the same time. Once I had a solid grasp (Is that even a thing when parenting?) on parenting I was ready to be a regular member of society again. In 2004 when my son was six month old I went back to my natural hair. Technically it was a return because I was born natural, but to my knowledge my hair had always been chemically altered.
When I started that journey I created a Natural Hair album on Fotki and I kept it going for many years. I had built a solid community of followers who were also on their own natural hair journey. I posted pictures, I shared products, and I did hairstyle tutorials. Oddly enough it was the pre-cursor to blogging only I had no idea that blogging was on the cusp of becoming a thing. After having a solid album for five to six years I let it go. However I missed the community I had created and the outlet from parenting.
February twenty fifth, two thousand and ten I created MimiCuteLips.com. My hair album was named MimiCuteLips so it was a no brainer to keep the same name that I had already established and fit me so well. Now seven years later MimiCuteLips has evolved into more then I could have dreamed of. It isn’t final but I’m on a path to exactly where I need to be.
I didn’t get serious about MimiCuteLips until I was 3 years in. Even then I wasn’t 100% sold on what direction I wanted to go in. What I did know is that I’m a gal of many talents and passions and I was adamant that I wouldn’t be put into a box. Lifestyle was the perfect category for me, now seven years into the game I want to drill down to events, travel/food with a hint of DIY.
My word for the year is Leap and I must admit I haven’t been leaping the way I really need to be. I’m the person that doesn’t ask for what she needs. When people volunteer assistance I always say thanks, but no thanks. The truth is I don’t and I can’t get where I want to go alone.
This me speaking my truth, it is essential to my growth. I want to be the go to person to cover events, all type of events. I want to be sent on press trips to cover events. I want people to reach out to me and sponsor my trips to cover various events for them. I sometimes use the kids as an excuse and sometimes they are a legit reason but other times it is me. Most of the time it is me getting in my own way and keeping myself from being my greatest.
Last night I attended a PR & Bloggers event and it was exactly what I needed. It lit a much needed fire under me. It showed me how much value I have in this here blogging game. I am ready to leap even if I do it afraid.

Congratulations Mimi! This is indeed very admirable. I think 7 years is a lifetime in the blogging world, so good for you! I very much enjoy the “fat” food posts and DIY since l am hopeless there. Keep up the good work. I will have a glass of wine in your honor :-).
Thanks Kem, cheers.
Congratulations on blogging 7 years & all the success you’ve received!
Thanks Jay, I really appreciate it.
Congrats on your journey!!! Love your brand by the way. Blogging is such an amazing outlet to get creative, share ideas and make money. As a blogger myself speaking your truth, sharing 100% of who you are and all the natural awesomeness that comes with being you is what attracts your tribe. I wish you much luck and again congrats for taking the leap!
Thanks Andrea. You are right, authenticity is essential.
Yassss congratulations on 7 years! I see so much of my current story in yours. I created my blog to have an outlet outside of just motherhood. I look forward to seeing how your site continues to evolve. By the way, you reminded me that I had a Fotki account as well lol.
Thanks, Rashida, we are more alike in this world than different.
Ha, Fotki was all the rage back in the day.
Happy 7th anniversary. It’s refreshing to see you have been in the game for 7 years, and still going strong.
Thanks Kim, I’m working on securing 7+ more years.
Happy Blogaversary! I am confident my friend that when you take big leaps you’ll be fabulous! Here’s to 7 more years of successful blogging and coverage of lifestyle events.
Thanks Kirstin, I’m going to get my leap on.

It is Elle, thanks. I’m going to kick butt.
Happy Blogaversary! I hit lucky seven back in October and I love that there are so many of us “old school” bloggers still going strong.
Oh wow Robin, congrats. We are like a secret society.
Congratulations on your 7 year blog anniversary. I’m in it over 12 years now and it is the most rewarding thing that I have ever done work or career-wise.
Thanks Val, that is incredible. This is my most rewarding work as well.
Happy 7th Birthday, MimiCuteLips! Well, I love the name of your blog. It’s easy to remember. I also love to see the photos from all the events you cover. It’s like being there but in my PJ’s. I also like to see whatever outfit you’ve put together with your own beautiful spin. Here’s to many, many more years of success! I’m toasting with coffee since it’s really early in the morning.
Hahhaha I love the “being there but in my pajamas.” I will drink to that, thanks Alli.
Congrats Mimi! You are truly an inspiration to me. I love everything about your blog however, I love the DIYs.
Thanks Tanya, the DIYs help keep my Universe balanced.
Yes I love this especially the last line, “I am ready to leap even if I do it afraid.” As a Resiliency Activator I’ll be here reminding you of your greatness every step of the way! You truly are a gem and I’m happy the social helped you see all the value you possess.
Ashley, thanks so much. I look forward to you holding me accountable.
Congrats MiMi! I enjoy all your DIY projects because it inspires me to try some things I usually don’t do. You make it look so easy! I also enjoy the event recaps because I feel like I’m there in spirit. Keep doing what you do!
Thanks Jonna, I’m so thankful that you guys enjoy the things that give me joy.
Happy blog birthday to you! I love your word of the year. I might have to steal it 🙂
Thanks Christy, I say go for it.
Congratulations on your blog being up and going for 7 years. It is great how you mentioned after 3 years you really didn’t get serious about this blogging page. Goes to show everyone should hang in there and find their way.
Candy, I totally agree. I am the poster child for hanging in there if it is what you love.
Happy 7th anniversary! My blog will be turning 10 this year and I cannot believe that it has been this long already. I agree that my first few years in were like the old west. I had not clue what I was doing and there were not many guys writing either. Love how things have changed over the years though!
Christopher that is amazing; it is funny how we find our way.
This is great! Happy Blog Birthday! Blogging that long is a great accomplishment, especially when you didn’t fully get into it for a few years. Congrats!
Thanks Jacqui, I had no idea I would love writing the way I do.
Happy 7th birthday Mimicutelips – what am I bringing to the party? Well, I am sending you all the love and positive vibes from London, UK and here’s to another great 7 years on the WWW 🙂
Thanks Danik, love and positive vibes are always welcome. 🙂
Congratulations! 7 years and still going strong is such an achievement for us bloggers. I wish you more years and greater success!
Thanks Annemarie, cheers to that.
Happy 7th Blogaversary! I had no idea you have been blogging for so long. You go girl. I relate so hard on how motherhood takes over everything. I’m still trying to find my way back to a little bit more of me.
Thanks MJ. It is tough, especially after having baby #2. It knocked me back a bit.
Congrats on seven years of blogging! I remember the moment I first started blogging and now it’s three years later. Time sure does fly when it comes to blogging.
That is awesome Angelic, when we get started we never know just how long we will keep it going.
How awesome! Congrats!! I definitely always remember your blog name, such a cute name! I love seeing all the photos you take from events you attend.
Thanks Stephanie, events are my absolute favorite.
Seven years! That’s absolutely amazing! Here’s to another fabulous year of blogging for you x
Thanks Fi Ni.
Happy 7th blog birthday! 7 years is a huge feat and you are doing fantastic! Keep it up!
Thanks for the vote of confidence, I appreciate it.
Congratulations on seven years! Only a few bloggers make it past the first couple of years, so to make it as long as you have shows that you know what you are doing and you love doing it!
Thanks Dawn! I love it indeed.
Seven years?!? Goals! Congratulations on making it so far. Can’t wait to see the direction you take this blog next. Here’s to seven more. Plan to do something big for year ten?
Thanks Ashleigh. I think ten years is worth celebrating for sure.
