Life on Furlough – 10 days in

The furlough is here and things just got real. October 1st came I went into work in my jeans, a button up and a fab pair of Embellished Junk Chuck's by From Mi To You. I spent 2 hrs in the office, got my letter, signed it, laughed with my colleagues and headed home.  The subway was packed like it normally is for rush hour, only it was 10AM and most of the federal employees were headed home unsure of when we get to return. Now what am I going to do? How long am I going to do it? I knew this was coming but they normally swoop down at the ninth hour and save the day.  That didn't happen this time, so now what? Now this is only day one, so I wasn't about to become the maid and do ALL the hundreds of things I need to do or want to do around the house. Besides if I did my Babe would expect that every day. =)

Xtreme13: Roc Race, Mud Factor, Spartan Race & Electric Run

#Xtreme13 is still going on, we can't quit now we still have a few months left in the year. This is the Race addition, some wet, some muddy, some just running but all of them a lot of fun. First up is the Roc Race: This race was supposed to be Wipe Out Style, it was advertised to be big fun. They had a great idea, but they failed to execute it properly. This was their first year out the gate and well, they didn't have many obstacles. My Babe did this Race with two of his motorcycle friends. Nori and I came along to cheer them on and take pictures. This was a 5K of fun so they say.

The Potty Life

Well ladies and gentlemen it is potty time in the Robinson household. (Insert face here) I thought I would be thrilled and excited and part of me really is but the other part feels like this is all happening a bit too soon. My girl is only 18 months and in my mind I just knew we would start this around her 2nd birthday. Why 2? Because my son is 8 and I can't remember when we started with him. (After some research it turns out we started when he was 19 months). UGH! *removing all thoughts of denial* For a few weeks now Nori (affectionately known as my girl) will let you know when she is using the bathroom in her diaper. Well two days ago she went all big girl on me while I was at work; and pooped in the potty. Way to show me little girl! She had her 18 month checkup last week and the pediatrician asked me about potty training.  I told her we hadn't started but I had been browsing potties. Little did I know my girl was pressing the wrap it up button on me and here we are. I was browsing potties online but I didn't have a plan or a real time frame in which we would start. Ooooh in yo face! O_o

Vacation in the Rear View

relaxation: to release or bring relief from the effects of tension, anxiety, etc.
I've needed some R&R for quite some time now, this week my family and I and then me and the girls decided to do just that. We were supposed to go to Virginia Beach but mechanical failure prevented that from happening so we had to relocate our fun to AMC Movie Theater and Chesapeake Beach Water Park.
First up was Despicable Me2 in 3D
This movie was really cute and funny, we all enjoyed it.
It was Nori's first 3D movie, and she enjoyed the special effects.

Xtreme13: Aerial Adventure & Run Amuck Race

Xtreme13 just got a little more adventurous and a lot dirtier. A couple weeks ago we rode to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia to check out the Adventure Park.  We got a sweet Living Social deal on a Season Pass; we tried Go Ape last year and had a ball so this was a perfect chance for us to turn the adventure up a little bit.  The drive up was beautiful to see, the mountains, and the water and to discover the history along the way.
We will check out the white water rafting when we come back.

Xtreme13: Race for Hope & Bike to Work Day

Xtreme13 is still going on we participated in the Race for Hope on May 5th. This is a 5k to fight against brain tumors.  We participated in this last year with a friend that lost his Brother-in-law to a brain tumor. Gotta support your family and friends when they are supporting such a worthy cause. We jogged it with 4 kids in tow and a super slow adult (me). Despite all of that it took us 43 minutes to complete. Here are a few pics.
My Babe was pushing our 1year old in the stroller and our son and some friends ran beside him.  I was bringing up the rear.

Xtreme13: Hiking Great Falls

Xtreme13 was on the move again. Sunday we went hiking a trail in Great Falls park located in Potomac, MD.  As always we invited a group of friends to join in on the fun. This was a first time for most of us including myself. Black folks just don't hike. Well we changed that stereotype today, 10 people at a time! We met up at 8:30 in the morning and rode to the park caravan style. We all had a variety of "gear" to make our experience a good one. What I should have had were a pair of gloves with good grip and a bee keeper's hat to kip the gnats out of my face. SERIOUSLY! I'm sure I ate at least 4 bugs with 2 flying in my ear and 2 more flying up my nose. NOT COOL! Needless to say I did a lot of screaming and ducking and swatting. I survived though. We hiked about 4-5 miles up and down rocks and such. Now going in I thought we would be walking a rocky trail, I did not realize we were hiking a rock trail. While my body hurts from head to toe post hike it was a lot of fun and the views were amazing. The falls are simply beautiful.

Xtreme 13: Glo Run & Tough Mudder

#Xtreme13 is still in motion; today's edition is about the race life... Back in March my girls signed up for The Glo Run and asked me to join in. Certainly! The race fell on the same day my Babe was doing the Tough Mudder. His race is a 13 mile military style obstacle course. My race was a 5K (3.1 mile) run/walk. They had a DJ and everything, he got us hyped prior to start and then we did the Wobble and some other stuff after the race was over. The super cool thing is this event took place at night; we took off running at 8:30pm. HOW FUN IS THAT!!! This race took place down at the National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Beautiful scenery but it was cold and most of us weren't exactly prepared for that especially since it was nice and warm the week prior. One monkey don't stop no show thus the show went on in spite of the cold weather.

Xtreme 13: Go Kart & Paintball

Xtreme13 event #4 happened last night & #5 was today.  First up was Go Karts at Allsports Grand Prix, in Dulles, VA. It was Parent's Night Out at our sons martial arts studio (they do this about once a month) so this was a great time for the parents to get out and have some fun while our kids were having fun too.  The dads have been talking junk to one another for a few weeks now. They all professed to leave one another in their respective dust. Men! This was my first time at this place; my Babe has been on the Go Karts before but also does their Mini Motto (Racing dirt bikes around the track) in the winter. After an hour and pretty decent traffic we arrive and register on the computers (you also select your "racing name" during this time) and pay per lap. I only did one lap, my Babe and some of the other parents did two laps. After that you get suited up, yes you put on an actual NASCAR like suit that looks pretty slick. We watched a safety video and then head out to the track. You get your hood, your helmet and gloves. Check the monitor to find out which car you are in then hop in. IT IS TIME TO RIDE!!! or in my case cruise. Yes I was driving like the old folks, straight "Sunday Cruising" don't judge me. After the watching the safety video I was afraid to run into anything, anyone or get black flagged and sent to the penalty box. Oh it's serious
