Xtreme13 just got a little more adventurous and a lot dirtier. A couple weeks ago we rode to Harper's Ferry, West Virginia to check out the Adventure Park. We got a sweet Living Social deal on a Season Pass; we tried Go Ape last year and had a ball so this was a perfect chance for us to turn the adventure up a little bit. The drive up was beautiful to see, the mountains, and the water and to discover the history along the way.
Xtreme13 was on the move again. Sunday we went hiking a trail in Great Falls park located in Potomac, MD. As always we invited a group of friends to join in on the fun. This was a first time for most of us including myself. Black folks just don't hike. Well, we changed that stereotype today, 10 people at a time! We met up at 8:30 in the morning and rode to the park caravan style. We all had a variety of "gear" to make our experience a good one. What I should have had were a pair of gloves with good grip and a bee keeper's hat to kip the gnats out of my face. SERIOUSLY! I'm sure I ate at least 4 bugs with 2 flying in my ear and 2 more flying up my nose. NOT COOL! Needless to say, I did a lot of screaming and ducking and swatting. I survived though.
#Xtreme13 is still in motion; today's edition is about the race life... Back in March my girls signed up for The Glo Run and asked me to join in. Certainly! The race fell on the same day my Babe was doing the Tough Mudder. His race is a 13 mile military style obstacle course. My race was a 5K (3.1 mile) run/walk. They had a DJ and everything, he got us hyped prior to start and then we did the Wobble and some other stuff after the race was over. The super cool thing is this event took place at night; we took off running at 8:30pm. HOW FUN IS THAT!!! This race took place down at the National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Beautiful scenery but it was cold and most of us weren't exactly prepared for that especially since it was nice and warm the week prior. One monkey don't stop no show thus the show went on in spite of the cold weather.
Hey Cuties, #Xtreme13 the duo edition (Me and my Bae-thang) had a day date that had us on a two wheel adventure. With LittleCuteLips still being young day dates are still the way to go. The kids are at daycare and school while we are out here living our best life kid free.
Xtreme13 event #4 happened last night & #5 was today. First up was Go Karts at Allsports Grand Prix, in Dulles, VA. It was Parent's Night Out at our sons martial arts studio (they do this about once a month) so this was a great time for the parents to get out and have some fun while our kids were having fun too. The dads have been talking junk to one another for a few weeks now. They all professed to leave one another in their respective dust. Men!
This year the NBC 4 Health & Fitness Expo is a two day standalone event. (Normally it goes hand and hand with the Motorcycle Show.) The really cool thing about it this year besides the 20th Anniversary is my son's Martial Arts Studio (Yong Sung Lee Hapmudo Studios) was asked to perform on both days. SUPER COOL! The team has been practicing hard and they are very excited and nervous at the same time. My son is new to the Demo team so this is only his third time performing. However this is the largest venue to date.
Xtreme13 has struck again, and our second Adventure was Scuba Diving. We purchased a Living Social deal last year and thought this would be fun to do. While it wasn’t as easy as I thought (we’ll discuss in a minute) it was well worth the $20 spent. Living Social/Groupon/Google offers are great ways to try new adventures for a small amount of money.
We trained at the Chesapeake Underwater Scuba place in Annapolis Maryland. This is a small little place that has likely been around for a really long time. The class is scheduled for groups of 10. We were a party of 6 that became a party of 9 when we befriended the other 3 girls that were there for class. We spent about an hour going over equipment, safety procedures, and the 101 of scuba diving and then watched a video. What I did learn about Scuba Diving is it involves a lot of science & math. You have to know how much air you need vs. how deep you are going vs. time. You also need to know and understand how the lungs work and to make sure you are breathing correctly, to make sure you aren't holding your breath (which you do naturally when in the water) and you have to make sure you don't come up too fast. Is your head spinning yet? Oh did I mention that you have various scuba suits that are best suited for the types of water, temperature, needs for safety and warmth. Why do people scuba dive again?
Xtreme 13 has begun... Our inaugural event was the Trapeze School of New York located in Washington, DC. There isn't much to say other than we had a really good time. The class was 2 hrs long and we did about six jumps and my Babe did one catch. You have to call and schedule your visit and they take you in groups of 10. (You aren't required to have 10 people in YOUR party) They give you a quick verbal lesson and then show you an actual example. The staff instructs you every step of the way so don't worry.
