Welcome to November, the holiday season has officially begun. I started purchasing holiday decor back in July and shopping in September. While I’ve gotten a jump start on things, I won’t break out Christmas decorations and such until December. I know some of y’all are ready to break out the decorations and the tree. Too soon!
After having a blast on our Cousin’s Trip in Key West we drove back to Miami. We all flew out of Ft. Lauderdale so it was only right to spend a night in Miami. After eating all that delicious food in Key West we had to follow it up with equally amazing food in Miami. I’m fat so I have a list of eateries I want to try in variety of cities; this list is conveniently located in my phone. I mentioned Yardbird Southern Table & Bar to my now party of four; we took two others to the airport earlier that evening. One of my cousin’s mentioned that someone on her timeline had recently mentioned Yardbird. With that confirmation we made reservations for some crazy late hour.
Because vacation and late night you start with a cocktail. I mean we should have the full experience right? Right Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade: Made with Buffalo Trace bourbon, fresh lemon and cardamom. They describe it as a tart and bitter punch with just the right amount of sweetness. Verdict: Didn’t love it.
Southern Peach: A cocktail fit for the porch made with Wild Turkey 81 Aperol, fresh lemon & thyme with white peach puree & sweet tea. Verdict: Nope, didn’t love it.
After two failed cocktails my excitement for the food was dwindling a bit. Despite that concern I was still eager to eat, we were starving. We started with small plates and shared them.
Deviled Eggs: dill, chives & smoked trout roe Verdict: Delicious!!!!
My sister loves Fried Green Tomatoes. I can’t say they are my ministry but I did try them when we were in Atlanta. Fried Green Tomato BLT: House smoked pork belly, pimento cheese, frisee smoky tomato jam & lemon vinaigrette. Verdict: That pork belly was amazing. My sister loved them; they weren’t bad if you are into this sort of thing.
Listen I could easily live off bread, it is my happy place. Per the waiter suggestion we had to try the biscuits. Classic Buttermilk: Honey butter & house-made jam Verdict: That honey butter was everything, I’m not big on the jam but everyone else loved it.
Y’all know I’m a sucker for quality mac & cheese and this is a southern spot so I had to give them a go. Macaroni & Cheese: Trottole pasta, five artisanal cheeses & crispy herb crust Verdict: It was yummy!
St. Louis Style Pork Ribs: with house made bbq sauce & green apple slaw. Verdict: Very well done, I wasn’t a fan of the slaw but the ribs were perfect.
I’ve shared Chicken & Waffles from a lot of different places. So, it was only right that I try it out here as well. Chicken ‘N’ Watermelon ‘N’ Waffles: Honey hot sauce, chilled spiced watermelon, Vermont sharp cheddar cheese waffle with bourbon maple syrup. Verdict: Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssss!
We had a big fat table of fatness. The great thing is we all shared all of it so no one person was exceedingly fat. The next time I’m in Miami I’m so going back.
