The truth about Black Girl Magic, Mom Melanin, Sequin, and Make-Up

Hey Cuties,

Last week I got all fancy and hit the town with a bunch of moms. We put on our festive party clothes, left the kids at home with someone responsible and had a girl’s night. A girl’s night on a Thursday evening.  The invite said A Holiday Beauty Fete; get fancy, come to Bloomingdale’s, Lancôme will be there and District MotherHued had planned an evening of fun.  The #DMVMomTribe showed up and showed out and fun was had.

There is a stigma that women can’t get along. That black women don’t support one another. That we just don’t… this post will shut all that ish down. That is far from the truth and far from my experience.

Motherhood is tough my darling. But so are you.

District MotherHued is an organization for millennial moms of color founded by DMV publicists and moms, Simona Noce and & Nikki Osei-Barrett.  Their mission is to engage, empower and equip women of color at the cusp of motherhood and career via quarterly events and workshops. District MotherHued wants Moms to connect, share common struggles of motherhood and build a community of inspiration and resources for mothers and budding mompreneurs.

Treats by Darling Chic Eats

If there is a single thing I approve of at events is #FatSnacks. They had plenty and they were just as festive as we were.

JK Dowd Media was on hand snapping up our pictures. This included the one-offs and an epic group shot.  They showed up so I showed out, in my sequin pants. I paired them with a white button-up shirt, a black bow tie, and my favorite booties.

Lancome I only have eyes for you goodie bags

Lancome gave these goodies bags with products on the inside. The bag was cute and it came with this stunning picture of Lupita.  Lupita Nyong’o is a brand ambassador for Lancome; she said, “I am proud to represent Lancome’s unique vision for women and the idea that beauty should not be dictated, but should instead be an expression of a woman’s freedom to be herself.” Lancome has melanin friendly shades of makeup.

Evan, Lancome rep going to work

Now that we have some Lancôme products the fabulous Evan Strianese, Regional Special Events Manager at Lancôme showed us how us to apply a basic look and offered a few tips and tricks.  Evan did makeup demonstrations as well as a long beauty Q&A. I got all my questions answered and more.

TIPS:

– Using a brush to apply foundation requires less product.

– It is okay to apply foundation with your fingers, especially if you are in a rush.

– Blush is a yes!

– Lancome is leading the industry in mascara, they have 8 different formulas.

This was my first District MotherHued event but I had an amazing time. I’m proud of the village they have built and the relationships they continue to foster.

On my way out I noticed this Ready to Glow design on the wall. It was perfect for me, you know my lipstick is my signature and lips are my logo.  It was the Universe letting me know I was in the right place at the right time.

  16. Well Ms. Cutelips, it’s not often that I’ll read a blog entry in it’s entirety. When, that is,
I don’t distracted and move on to something totally different. Since you probably have info about me from a couple someones, I’m pretty certain you kinda already know a lil summ..summ about that. ? I think maybe I’d seen it, but, never read it, but, once I started reading, there was no stopping.

I didn’t know you’d make me feel the changing of the guard in The White House as a sharp pain. But, I’m happy to know your memories and joy have been so well captured that the experience won’t be lost.
