Today I wanted to share some great natural hairstyles for kids. It’s been a year since I posted about my daughter’s hair regime, you can read it HERE. The short story is cradle cap took most of her hair out and I’ve been growing it back. I wash her hair weekly and put it in a protective style for the week. Once the weekend hits I take her hair down and let her wear puff balls/ponytails to let it breathe. Below are some of the styles I’ve done on her hair. These styles can be done on a variety of textures and lengths of hair so don’t be afraid to try them out if you like them.
I learned to braid when I was a child so that comes easy for me. If you don’t know how to cornrow I suggest trying out the two-strand twist hairstyles. I’ve included a tutorial on how to flat twist at the bottom.
Washed hair + Blown out = Puff Ball + scarf to add a little colorWashed hair + Blown out = Puff BallTwo day old braid out + headbandBraid out into two puff balls + a cute bowCornrows into two strand twist + beads on the endBraids into a two strand twist mo-hawk + beads on the endCornrows + Two strand twistTwist out from the style above + a bowCornrows + Two strand twistPonytails w/ beads + bowTwo Strand twist + beads
To keep her hair out of her face I wrap small bundles of her twist into rubber bands.

Her hair has gotten to long for this hair style.
This is one of my favorite quick styles for her. I use rubber bands to connect her braidsDirty Hair = Took down her old hairstyle. Washed Hair = Washed and towel dried. Blown Hair = Blown out with a blow dryer. Braided Hair = Box braids + beads

Oh my goodness! I love all of these and she is adorable to boot. What a great mom you are for spending so much time to make your daughter look and feel beautiful. My mom cut my hair in a pixie until I was old enough to take care of it myself because she didn’t ever want to mess with it.
Cherri her father would kill me. lol My mom wasn’t good at doing my hair as a kid.

I love seeing the different hairstyles for children. I use to do my daughters hair in different hairstyles when she was younger. She is a teen and loves doing her own hair.

Kiwi I wish it was when I was young too. My mother put chemicals in my hair when I was really young.
I needed that video because me and this little girl…it takes 3 hours to do her hair from washing, conditioning, blow drying and then flat ironing because I don’t know what else to do. She is natural but on school mornings I don’t have time to comb through her hair and I don’t know how to braid or twist smh. I should be practicing this summer so I can know something when she starts school
hahahahahahaha Get your practice on girl and a wig cap is your best friend. It preserves the hairstyles.
These are all adorable. When my girls were little, I loved to French Braid their hair. They sure didn’t have as many options as your little model does. She’s adorable!

I taught myself how to braid and flat twist. It’s one of my biggest accomplishments as a mommy! I’m better at twisitng however, so that’s what I stick to. Love your creativity in the styles!

I have 4 daughters. To say that I do not have the time it takes to cater to each scalp would be an understatement. The older they get the pickier they become. I love all of the styles you showed. Do you use different products on her hair now that she is older?

Thank you so much for sharing. I have a 7 year old daughter whose hair I’m trying to grow. I am going to try this and can’t wait to see the results. Right now she only wears braids because I don’t know how to comb hair but this styles seem pretty easy to do so I should be good. I do have a question though. How often do you clip her ends. I have only did my daughters twice in 7 years so I’m wondering if that’s why it’s not growing as fast.
Lavonda, I hope these help you out. My daughter is three and thus far I’ve only clipped her ends once. If her ends appear to be unhealthy then you should give them a trim. Maybe evaluate them every couple of months. Typically natural hair doesn’t need to be clipped as often as permed hair. Hope this helps.

I use Shea Moisture Curl and Style Milk and Mielle Tiny Tots Curl Enhancing Cream on her hair as I twist it up. I don’t add any additional product for the twist out. She wears a bonnet at night and finger fluff the next day.
You could use a little oil or water mist in a spray bottle to give it new life.

I have only did my daughters twice in 7 years so I’m wondering if that’s why it’s not growing as fast.
Lavonda, I hope these help you out. My daughter is three and thus far I’ve only clipped her ends once. If her ends appear to be unhealthy then you should give them a trim. Maybe evaluate them every couple of months. Typically natural hair doesn’t need to be clipped as often as permed hair. Hope this helps.

What type of products do you use on your little cuties twist out to preserve the curl? Love all your styles by the way. I’m interested in trying some of the natural poof/fro/ twist out looks since I always do braids with beads (give my girls some other options). Thanks!!!

I use Shea Moisture Curl and Style Milk and Mielle Tiny Tots Curl Enhancing Cream on her hair as I twist it up. I don’t add any additional product for the twist out. She wears a bonnet at night and finger fluff the next day.
You could use a little oil or water mist in a spray bottle to give it new life.
