Last week Six Flags America [Bowie, MD] took Fright Fest to new levels with a demented 30 Hour Couples Coffin Challenge. Yup! They laid five couples to rest in a wooden coffin inside of an amusement park for 30 hours. They had scheduled meals, bathroom breaks, and the absolute best part is the random challenges. They also LIVE streamed the entire thing on their Facebook page.
The challenge kicked off at 4:10 PM on Friday, September 27th. It ended Saturday, September 28th at 10:10 PM. The temperature was around 90 degrees and the sun was shining at that time the challenge began. I know fall is tripping with no luggage, can someone put an A.P.B out on fall?
Coffin Dweller Requirements
- Must sign a deadly-serious waiver at check-in
- Must be 18 or older and have a valid photo ID
- Cannot have medical conditions that would make lying in a coffin for 30 hours a risk to health or well-being;
- Must be able to lie completely flat and dead still
- Must provide own pillow and sleeping bag, body bag, straight-jacket or blankets
The coffins were created by the fine mechanical staff at Six Flags. They did a great job, for two people they had a decent amount of space. No technology was allowed. They placed their smartphones, watches, and earbuds on the top of the coffin
The Schedule Breaks
Food: They received dinner, breakfast, lunch, and dinner again. They had 15 minutes to eat each meal coffin-side.
Bathroom: They were allowed one 6 minute bathroom break every 3 hours
Cellular Use: Phone charging for posting last will and testaments and tales from the grave were allowed during the 6-minute bathroom break mentioned above.
Visitors: They were allowed coffin-side visits by the Fright Fest freaks who come out at night to visit.
Challenges: Gut-wrenching tests and sinister elimination challenges to weed out contestants.
Anyone who gets out of their coffin for any reason, with the exception of the designated bathroom and meal breaks, will be automatically disqualified and not eligible to win the contest.
They had Voodoo Priests lay the couples to rest before the challenge began. She was
All challenges were based on time. If multiple couples were left at the end the winner would be chosen based on how fast they completed the challenges.
#1 Eating a jar of baby food [green beans + prunes]
#2 Locating upside down sacrificial chicken inside of a Haunted House
Bonus: They played BABY SHARK on constant repeat at night [A couple quit after this.]
#3 Ride the Firebird coaster with VR goggles on.
#4 Eat 12 mealworms
#5 Eat cockroaches [2 couples passed on this challenge and they were eliminated.]
Jamie and Chris Warne of Delta, PA – They have been married for 15 years. They are the parents of six children ages 13, 12, 10, 9, 4, and 2. This was a fun date night for them although it will consist of sleeping in a coffin. They had no idea that they wouldn’t actually get much sleep; their coffin was the absolute cutest.
Jason Paff and Brieanne DeCarolis of Baltimore, MD – They met and have been getting to know each other after swiping left and right. This is their first date, even better today was the first time they met face to face. I was so fascinated by this story, it kept getting better and better. He thought he was calling her bluff by sharing this with her as a first date. She fooled him and accepted. I told them this is the safest first date she has ever been on. I’m happy to say they lasted 20+ hours before being eliminated. I need an update on their love story.
Carl and Sihame Meek of Glen Burnie, MD – They want to test their marriage, their sanity and whether they can stay off their phones for 30 hours. They are the proud parents of a one-year-old daughter. When I interviewed them Carl’s only concern was eating bugs. I told him I think he is safe, I had no idea they really would have to eat bugs. OOPS! They did last the full 30 hours though.
Anthony Hobbs and Shanell Hawkins of Baltimore, MD – This couple has been together for a decade and believes they can make it through anything. Shanell said he is always signing them up for something and she goes along with it. I know what that life is like. Her strategy was to eat a little so she didn’t have to go to the bathroom. She said if they win she is going to buy shoes. When I asked him what he was going to buy with his winnings, he said “her some shoes” he is so smart. I also told them don’t embarrass the family, they are the only black couple.
Sanjaaya Samadhi and Austin Kuhn of Richmond, VA – Heather is a professional tarot card reader who will be in the coffin with Austin, her close friend of 10 years. They were really sure that they could make it 30 hours and this challenge would be a relative cakewalk for them. Well, 16 hrs in they quit. I don’t know why, but they did.
After 5 challenges and 30 hours the Six Flags Fright Fest Coffin Challenge is a wrap and out winners are Anthony and Shanell. Not only did they win all of the things below, Shanell got a rock. They are officially affianced, pep the video to see the surprise proposal. Congrats to the future Mr. & Mrs. Hobbs.
