Did You Know The Fantastic Regina Belle Supports St. Jude?

It is that time of the year again when St. Jude Children’s Research Hospitals has a Call to Service here in the Washington, DC area. This annual event coincides with CBC. This event celebrates the nine National Pan-Hellenic Council Organizations and supports the mission to defeat childhood cancer and sickle cell disease. September is their respective awareness months so the timing couldn’t be better.
This year’s St. Jude Call to Service was at The Hamilton on 14th Street, in downtown Washington, DC. I was excited about the location because I know they have a really nice party area.
Naturally the first thing I did was hit the red carpet. My lace top was from Target and my bold yellow crop pants were a $10 find at Zara.
My sister joined myself and The Style Medic for the evening. My sister is not social like this and it was a treat to actually have her out with us. We had to seal this occasion with a picture.
What is sickle cell? Sickle cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that results in red blood cells becoming hard and sickle-shaped. The shape disrupts the normal flow of blood in the body, which can cause painful and sometimes life-threatening side effects. Click HERE for more detail information on sickle cell.

Our entertainment for the night was the one and only Regina Belle. She gave me all the life and all of the feels. She can still sang y’all.
Meet St. Jude Patient Courtney Davis, this young lady is going places. Her parents found out she had sickle cell while she was in utero. Her parents reached out to St. Jude and actually began treatment while she was in the womb. SO FREAKING SMART! Once Courtney was born she continued being treated by St. Jude; based on the treatment she has received to date it has given her a better quality of life. Sickle Cell is generally physically exhausting to the body and most people with it don’t play sports. Well Miss Courtney here has been able to start cheer-leading. On this night she received a full college scholarship to a college in Tennessee. Amazing!
Now back to Regina Belle, my favorite song A Whole New World originally done with Peebo Bryson. This song is from the soundtrack of the Disney movie Aladdin. She didn’t sang this for us and it is best. I will have fallen out on the floor like a fool. She did however serenade the beautiful Courtney with “If I Could.”

I had no idea that you could treat sickle cell in utero! That is amazing. I am always so proud of the service efforts of the NPHC. Looks like it was a great night – love those pants!

I did not know Regina Belle supports St. Jude but I am glad she does. St. Jude is so important and they deserve to be backed by celebrities from all over.

As a proud member of an NPHC sorority, I absolutely love that they put on an event like this. It’s such an important cause and I had no clue Regina Belle was involved.

OMG! The kids JUST recited the lyrics to Regina Belle’s “If I Could” a couple of weeks ago during a Grandparents’ Day program at our church. That song makes me tear up every single time. I bet she gave an awesome concert and it looks like you had a blast. Way to support such a dynamic hospital!!!

St Jude is amazing I hope I’m in a place to donate more to them one day. I also didn’t know sickle cell could be treated in utero. I bet a lot of people aren’t aware of that.
There is so much good info out there that people just don’t’ know about. I’m trying to help spread the word. The more we know the better.
St. Jude’s hospital is probably the number one on my list when it comes to donating. They do so much good for everybody but children especially and I am definitely in support of that.
Kids always tug at our hearts to know that St. Jude is always there for them is comforting.
I’ve known my share of sick children and it’s nice to see that there are programs that are genuinely designed to help them and their families.
That is why it is so easy for me support. They are legit changing and saving lives.
I’m gonna have to read more about this! My niece, nephew and aunt have sickle cell. My 8 year old niece experiences the most episodes between them all and it’s devastating seeing her in pain. How awesome to hear Regina Belle sing. That woman has a great voice.
OMG, sorry to hear that. St. Jude is by far leading the fight in Sickle Cell. They are a wealth of information.

What a great night and a great cause. And they picked the perfect place. I love the Hamilton! I’ve gone there for many a happy hour and even the gospel brunch!
The venue was perfect, the food at The Hamilton is delicious. Yes, I’ve done the brunch before as well.
A good homeschooling mom friend of mine, her son, he’s 10, is in the hospital right now due to sickle cell anemia. most people don’t know a whole lot about it. When she posted about him being admitted the other day, and why, several were unsure of what it was exactly.
I wish them well. I’m still shocked how so many people know about it. That is why I am here, to help spread the word.
This event is so heartwarming. Regina Belle is a fantastic singer and I am so happy that this event is all for the benefit of St. Jude NPHC. Thanks for giving these children a better quality of life.

I needed a tissue after watching Regina Belle sing, she is AMAZING. What a song and the touching, emotional video. I truly had no idea. What a special gala. God bless!
Me too, I love Regina Belle but she gives me all of the feels.
Both of my sisters were born with sickle cell anemia. One sister is older, and my other sister is the last born. My cousin died in his mid-twenties due to sickle cell complications. I witnessed the pain all my life. My dad stays alert at all times when it comes to his girls. There is no true definition of worry until you see it on my dads face. I donate to St. Jude on the regular. I don’t care what celebrity supports this cause. It’s different when it touches home. Great post. Yours is my favorite out of all the ladies. Keep supporting, there is many more proven test out there. But to say there is a cure…I need to witness it to believe it.
Wow Kay, that a story. My niece is only 1 years old so dealing with sickle cell is new for our family. I’m so thankful to be an Ambassador with St. Jude because they have really educated me. I, in turn, share that with my family. Sending lots of love to you and your family. That can’t be easy. Seeing a daddy worry will bring anyone to their knees.
I’m going to keep doing my part, sharing the knowledge and learning all I can.
