WOE Magazine Launch Recap
Hey Cuties,
On Monday I mentioned my full weekend and attending the WOE Magazine Launch event. Here we go… WOE stands for Women of Excellence, well I’ll drink to that. I won’t go into details as to why I’m a woman of excellence just know that I am and you are too. I love attending events but knowing what to wear is always the hardest part for me. I’m an emotional dresser, is that a thing? I dress according to my current feeling, a feeling I was to embody or a feeling I want to give off. On this day I wanted to go for a comfy cube vibe. When you attend events as media you do more standing and moving around instead of sitting and being cute. Always cute though…
So I went with a white t-shirt, seriously they go with everything. I purchased this skirt during the winter but saved it for the summer. {Don’t question my logic.} The skirt is a bold summer type color but it is a little bit heavy in weight. Shirt: Target Skirt: H&M Sneakers: Converse customized with pearls by me Handbag: Louis Vuitton
The event took place at the Nordstrom in Annapolis Mall. I’m a total Nordies girl. I was excited to see the actual magazine upon my arrival. It is here, I can touch it and you can order your copy. WOE Magazine focuses on inspiration, style, and self-empowerment.
These ladies are what this event is all about; Ayo Thomas had a vision and she worked it until it looked the way she wanted it to. She started out hosting a women’s group in her living room then moved to a friends basement then to community centers and libraries for ten years. TEN YEARS!!! In 2015 she decided to toss her hat into the magazine arena and here we are.
Ayo found some other women of excellence and collaborated with them. Bershan Shaw is featured on the cover, she has such great energy. She is out here helping women find their excellence and she is a good time.
It takes a village right? Bershan takes care of her Dad and she spoke on traveling and asking friends to drop in and help to see that his needs are met. So many of us women of excellence are juggling home life, wife duties, children with and without special needs and parents. As our parents age taking care of them becomes more of an issue.
Tarese Taylor came out to support Ayo and WOE Magazine. Winning Miss Maryland World 2016 sounds like excellence to me.
You know I love food and even more than that I love events that serve food. In the midst of the Nordstrom and all of these Women of excellence was this good Continental Breakfast.
I have a muffin every single morning, it is my drug of choice. I did the Celie & Nettie me and you us never part clap when I saw these on the table.
You can’t go wrong with fresh fruit and pineapples are my favorites.
I had to get my close up with Bershan.
I had to get a picture with the lady of the hour, and then we did an interview. I wanted to know what it felt like to finally give birth to an idea and release it to the public. I would be excited and nervous so we talked about it all. Did you peep the pink carpet?
My interview with Ayo & Bershan, they are working the sisterhood ladies.
I think my favorite part of this event was the Excellence Curated Panel Discussion. I love to hear women share their honest and raw experiences. While the journey comes with bumps and bruises they let us know that it is possible. They shared how their respective passions came to life and gave us tips on finding ours.
This is a full event recap but the panel discussion starts at 00:55
After the panel discussion the Nordstrom folks put on a really fun WOE Fashion Presentation for us. They had two models come out and show us several looks for the every day woman. The business woman, the day to evening woman, the boss woman and the woman going out for cocktails. I didn’t get really good shots but it was fun. After the fashion show the ladies from the Beauty counters told us about several products. What they do, how they work and most importantly that they are a part of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.
What is an event without giveaways, they had some real good stuff too. Breast Cancer survivor and founder of SheROCKS, Tamiea called out the raffle numbers. I attended her event earlier this year. It was nice to see another woman of excellence supporting WOE Magazine.
The great thing about attending such events is you get to meet and connect with new people. Meet Kisha, she introduced herself to me after the panel discussion. I stood up and asked the panel a question, in doing so I introduced myself “I’m Mimi Green, lifestyle blogger of mimicutelips.com.” Kisha is also a blogger and wants to build up her blogger squad; we chatted and hit it off right away. After posting our picture on Instagram I found out that she knows several people that I know. One of which I’ve know since I was in Elem. School, it was clearly meant to be. I love when great energy meets great energy, it is a dope feeling. We’re building our women of excellence squad one introduction at a time.
My day has been made, I came, I saw, I covered, I was inspired. We closed out the event with a meet & greet wtih Ayo and Bershan. You may have missed the event but you can still get a copy of the magazine at www.woemagazine.com
You know life was given once I saw this Nordstrom Tote filled with goodies.
