Essence Street Style Block Party #EssenceStyle
Hey Cuties,
I’ve shared my Fashion Week experience with you on Monday. Today we are going to change gears a tiny bit but still talk fashion and style. On Saturday after the shows Babe and I headed to the BK aka Brooklyn. We checked out the Essence Street Style Block Party, although this is their third years this was my first. This event always takes place during fashion week. This year 10,000 people came out and celebrated real women with great style.
The block party consists of music, fashion, art, shopping and #FatSnacks. Dope partners like Chevrolet, Shea Moisture and Coca-Cola helped anchor the event. Actress Zendaya Coleman made an appearance and I missed it. Power actress Naturi Naughton also co-hosted the Street Style fashion show. Because impossible to be everywhere at once. I will plan things out a bit better next year.
This is how our adventure began; I like a good reminder that he loves me every now and again. We snapped up some photos while waiting for our Uber/Lyft, we used both while in New York.
After standing in heels for hours at the two shows I needed to be comfy and cute. This denim dress is at least five years old but I love it; it was 90 degrees in New York. My stands are an old favorite from Target. Babe got me this leather owl purse while we were in New Orleans.
It go serious up in this space, when the music was thumping it was like being in a club. It was hot outside already but it was 20 degrees hotter up in here. I had to snap my picture while it was low key.
I’m a big Shea Moisture fan so we had to check them out. I use their curl milk on my daughter’s hair. Now, I’ve got Babe digging on the Shea Moisture Coconut Hibiscus soap. I usually get it from Target for $4.99 a bar (the bar is big) but at the Block Party everything was 30% off. We are now the proud owners for five new bars of soap. lol
Listen you never turn down a quality massage. Just never!
After you’ve been rubbed down you can come and get all cute and stuff.
Then check out some of the vendors and spend a few coins. The midi rings were really cute.
Just know that I already have a piece on the way. Rue107 was on and popping all day long. They are a lifestyle brand that caters to women sizes 2 – 24. They have a showroom in NYC you can shop or order online.
I immediately begin to sing the minute I saw this “black coffee, no sugar, no cream. that’s the kind of girl I want down on my team.” I wanted this in a white crop top but they were out of my size. This dude was hella cool, we chatted with him a little bit.
His ring game was so strong.
I love when I run into my Virtual Boo’s in real life. Shout out to the ladies.
I saw people of all ages out here.
I saw styles of all kinds.
I love that Essence even thought about the kids. I saw kids of all ages out here so this was perfect. I love that it says dream.
These ladies were show stoppers; I had to snap a picture. I love their creativity and message.
We had a good time in Brooklyn; I put Babe to work all weekend. So we left the block party and headed to a dope motorcycle shop he wanted to check out.
Have you ever been to a Block Party?
It looks like you had a blast! Events like this make me want to live in a more urban city. My city never has cool events like this but maybe that can be my excuse to travel.

OMG I did not and I wanted to. Pineapple is my favorite fruit.
