Curl Centric Curly Kids Coloring Book Review & Interview

Where are my coloring Cuties?

This one is for you and or the little Cutie in your life. Ever since I was a little girl I loved to color. When my girl was old enough to scribble I was buying her coloring books. Out of all the coloring books we have Doc McStuffins is the only one that has images of little girls that look like her. Nori likes a variety of characters and I'm okay with that. However I want her to see images of people that look like her and have hair textures like hers. Beauty is shown in a very narrow scope and that simply isn't good enough for me.  When I find images of brown boys and girls I support them.

Chrisette Michele Pose ‘N Post Event {DC} & Interview

Hey Cuties,

The Pose 'N Post Symposium finally arrived in my city and I was worried about what I was going to wear. The weather was funky and rainy and not exactly warm so bare legs and toes were a no. I ended up with something comfy cute and my feet weren't hurting. Washington, DC was the fourth stop on their eight city tour. The event took place at the Hillyer Art Gallery, it is a unique contemporary art venue in Dupont Circle.  If you aren't familiar with the Pose 'N Post Symposium click HERE to catch up.

Issa Rae – The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl

Last week I attended the booking signing event of Issa Rae of the YouTube series Awkward Black Girl. The event took place at the Martin Luther King, Jr library in Washington, DC. I've walked past this library a million times but this was the first time I had actually gone inside. It was a packed house, so packed they had to put extra chairs out and even then people were still standing.  Issa's new book is titled The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl.  This is about her life whereas the Awkward Black Girl series is only a piece of her life.

Dreams Came True in 2014

2014 is coming to a close and like many of you I'm reflecting on my year. I did a lot of cool things, I went a lot of cool places, I forced myself outside of my comfort zone and it all paid off. Sometimes the payoff didn't come until down the road and other times the payoff was simply personal growth. Either way I was receptive to it.

Earlier this year I attended the Newsbabes Bash event last minute and I had the time of my life. I went alone and met almost all of my favorite news reporters. They were all really nice and it was for a great cause; Jim Vance was my favorite for sure. Full story HERE

The calendar says December 10th and Christmas is coming. As a parent I have this renewed excitement about the holidays. Christmas in particular is my absolute favorite with the kids. With so much going on in the world I just love to see their innocence. With that being said yall Christmas is coming. Suck it up and find your holiday cheer.

James Young DIY Network – Food Pantry Makeover

I had the pleasure of interviewing James Young, host of 8 seasons of DIY Network's I Hate My Kitchen. James is partnering with Walmart to Makeover 75 local Food Pantries Nationwide for the Holidays. They will award $1.5 million in grants across 75 local food pantries from Dec. 2nd to Dec. 12th.  Today, 49 million Americans including more than 12 million children struggle with hunger at some point during the year.  Did you read that? More than 12 million children will struggle with hunger. As a Mother of two this breaks my heart even more. I'm so thankful that I'm able to provide for my babies but many people aren't in a position to do the same.

S2S Magazine Feature: MimiCuteLips

In June I attended the Blogging While Brown Conference in Harlem. I mixing and mingling with my new blogger friends at our hotel and in walks Jamie Foster Brown. I knew who she was the minute I saw her and it was indeed an honor meeting her. If you don't know, she is the publisher and the sole owner of Sister 2 Sister magazine. If you told me then that it would lead to a S2S Magazine feature I would slap your face.
