Hey Cuties,
We are officially in the holiday season. You’ve filled your belly with holiday eats. You’ve shopped yourself simple when you woke up at 4 AM to get that killer TV you just had to have. Did you put up your Christmas tree?
The only thing I’ve done is stuff my face, but I’m checking my inbox for Holiday party invites. I haven’t gotten any fancy party invites yet but I did get an Ugly Sweater invite from Six Flags. If you need a +1 for your party I’m your girl, just let me know.
I was determined to make an ugly sweater this year. I hit up Michael’s and purchased some holiday ribbon that was discounted and a bag of bells. I purchased the sweatshirt from Wal-Mart for $5.00.
I had an idea in mind before I started which was a big help. With my idea in mind, I cut a strip from each ribbon at the same length.
I took all of the strips of ribbon and placed them in a tree shape. I used stick pins to secure them to the sweatshirt.
I topped my ribbon tree with a bow. I’ve been making bows for years now; it is one of the best things YouTube has taught me.
So, let me tell you how to make one. Step 1. Fold the ribbon. Step 2. Weave a needle up the middle like I did in the picture. Pull the thread like a drawstring. Step 3. Then wrap the thread around the bow. Step 4. Take a smaller piece of ribbon and roll it up and wrap it around the middle. Step 5. Secure that piece with thread. It doesn’t have to be perfect you won’t see it anyway. Step 6. This is the end product of your bow.
I made non-festive polka dot ribbons on each wrist.
I used differently colors to make it “ugly”.
I was pleased with my outcome but wanted to “ugly” it up a bit more.
So, I added some tiny bows to the collar.
My ugly sweater was a total hit.

It’s kinda cute actually! You are my craft queen! lol
ha, thanks Kirstin.
I agree – you are the crafting queen! What a great ugly sweater! Who needs to buy one? If I get an invite to an ugly sweater party, I’m making this. It’s adorable – in an odd sort of way.
Thanks Alli. It was so fun to make. I will go this route every year.
Love this DIY! The bows on the collar are too cute.
Thanks Tasheena, it was so fun to make.
I am not sure that would qualify as an ugly sweater. It is actually really cute and fun looking!
Ha, thanks Jennifer.
Haha this is such an awesome make, I would never have thought of making my own. But I might just have to now 🙂
Sarah it was so much fun.
Oh my gosh this is such a good idea! I have been trying to find an ugly sweater as a joke to give to my husband, but they’re pricey and I don’t want to spend that kind of money. I love this idea. I am totally doing it.
Go for it Jeanette. 🙂
Hahah this is fantastic! We have a hot Christmas here in Australia but I’m sure I could apply the ugly sweater rule to an Easter themed jumper. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Hahhahaha Chloe that is hilarious. You can make an Ugly Christmas T-shirt
What a fun project. I love how you personalized this sweater. It actually came out really cute. It would be perfect for all those holiday parties!
Thanks Jenn, you can make it anyway you want.
What a cute and fun ugly sweater! We have an ugly sweater party at my work every year.
This is perfect Chasity. Grab some items and get to work.
I love the idea of little bows on the collar of the sweater. However, the holiday ribbons made it a cool and fun ugly Christmas sweater! Great craft! It will save money instead of buying an ugly sweater at the store.
Hhahaha Thanks Annemarie.
I have never made my own ugly sweater before but yours turned out fabulous!! I want to make one now!!
Thanks Ricci, it is a lot of fun to do.

Thanks Tanya, it is funny how it turned out. Go for it.
Love it! The ugly sweaters are everywhere these days, but at times seem way overpriced to me. This is simple, cute and can be an inexpensive as you want to make it.
I agree Ayanna, making them is much cheaper.
I’m done with you. This isn’t ugly! lol This is something I would do though. Ugly or not, we still need style.
