BGR! Fest is a Black Girl Parade

Black Girls Rock (BGR!) Fest is back at the Kennedy Center here in DC and I had to go. I’m pushing myself to get back into the world post-pandemic and one of the things I missed was going to dope events.

In 2019 Bestie The Style Medic and I attended our first BGR! Fest, It’s a week of events that include musical performances, films, and conversation. We attended the opening party and DJ Beverly Bond & MC Lyte were the DJs for the night. DJ Beverly Bond is the creator of Black Girls Rock. We danced like nobody was watching and it felt like an old-school house party. Note: I had on too many clothes and this outfit was hot, I was sweating to death.

When BGR! Fest rolled around this year we knew we were going. I always go for a comfy cute situation and boy has my style evolved since 2019.

If there is a backdrop we are going to stand in front of it, I’m just saying.

This event was a little music kickback featuring new/up-and-coming artists. The vibe was real Love Jones-like. lol The lineup for the night was dope nothing but dope women, we were only familiar with one person but enjoyed them all. The DJ for the evening was @TyAlexander who we knew, she set the tone before the show started and between sets. Then there was AAries @itsaaries, twins Ayana and Ayinké, Kenya Vaun @kenyavaun was my favorite of the night, one of her songs was so smooth and catchy that it stayed in my head, and last but not least RES @the1res. Here is a video recap so you can catch the vibe.

One thing you should know about is we are sneakerheads and we are going to keep it cute but it will involve sneakers. She had on Jordan 1 Denim and I had on Jordan 1 Reverse Laney.

The light in the bathroom was good good so I had to snap a selfie. The fit was fitting. Vest: Target x Kahlana Barfield Brown + Shirt & Denim Joggers: Target + Socks: T-Mobile Tuesday Pride + Sneakers: Nike

We will be back again next year too! Have you ever been to any of the Black Girls Rock events?
