Who Made Charlamagne Tha God a New York Times Bestseller?

Hey Cuties,

Last week I had the pleasure of attending New York Times Best Seller, Charlamagne Tha God’s book signing event. This was the DC leg of his book tour at The Capitale.  I wanted to attend for a variety of reasons. I’m a Breakfast Club Fan, he is very controversial and CNN Political Commentator and NPR Political Analyst, Angela Rye was doing the chat with him. Yes, yes and more yes.

Charlamagne Tha God—the self-proclaimed “Prince of Pissing People Off,” co-host of Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club, and “hip-hop’s Howard Stern”—shares his unlikely success story as well as how embracing one’s truths is a fundamental key to success and happiness.

Each attendee with a ticket received an autograph copy of Charlamagne’s book.

This book discussion was entertaining and inspiring. It changed the way I looked at him a bit. I can’t wait to start reading his book.

Angela Rye & Charlamagne

Before I get all into this, let’s chat about Angela Rye for a minute shall we? Yes, we shall. Angela Rye is an Attorney and a Political Strategist. This sister is killing the game in the most respectable ways and is still down. There aren’t a lot of young black women in politics but Angela is holding her own, kicking butt and taking names while paving the way for other black women.  She was the perfect person to pair with Charlamagne.

Swag

Can’t leave without a goodie bag, it include the book. Capital City Mambo Sauce (mild & spicy) and Miss Jessie’s product samples. I started using these products way back in 2006 when I went back to my natural hair. Mambo Sauce is a DC thing, I can’t explain it is but it is amazing. It is usually put on fried chicken but we also love it on salmon. This is a staple in our home so I was really excited about this.

Pissing people off..Haha! Never heard of this guy, but he sounds interesting. I can’t wait to hear your take on the book :-).

  2. Ngumabi

“…embracing one’s truths is a fundamental key to success and happiness”
I like that statement because it is so true. The book should be very interesting to read.

  3. erinlivelovelaugh

I’ll have to get some of that Mambo sauce whenever I return to DC. You were around some heavy hitters. I bet it was a pleasure.

  4. Stacie

Sounds like a really good book! I’ll have to look for it first at my library. But, that name though…

  5. Jay Colby

I’ve been hearing so much about this book and how helpful and insightful it is. One of the principles that stood out to me was f*ck your dreams, because a lot of us are chasing “dreams” just because we someone else being successful doing it.

  6. Adeola

I have people say it is a great read but I am feeling some kinda way about it and about him.

I am not a fan but I will probably pick the book up sometime.

    • MimiCuteLips

The book might change your perspective a bit. He had to learn to open up his mind and I think some of the dope women guests on the show have done that.

  7. Kim

I’m really not a fan of Charlamagne. I heard him speaking about his book the other day while Chris Rock was on his show. I’ll look out for your thoughts on his book.

    • MimiCuteLips

Kim, I think he has grown a lot. I know some of the things he has said and I was like WTF. I’ve watched women come on the Breakfast Club and educated him and explain why some of the things he said were not cool. The book might surprise you.

  8. Latoya

I cant stand his a…well, you know what Im going to say. But I cant lie and say Im not interested in this book though. I will have to rent it though cause Im not giving him my coins lol.

    • MimiCuteLips

Latoya, I understand why you say that. I don’t agree with some of his comments but I do enjoy the guest that come on and educate him. Angela Rye is a great example of explaining why what he said caused a certain reaction. The book will surprise you.

  9. Jeanette

That is quite interesting that he goes out of his way to try to piss people off. Sometimes, depending on how it’s done, it’s not a bad thing to get angry about stuff because I think then the air it’s cleaned out and we know where somebody else stands. It can make people closer in the end.

    • MimiCuteLips

Jeanette, I feel you. It most certainly is a middle of the road type of person to be. At any moment you cross the line to the point of no return.

  10. Stacie @ Divine Lifestyle

This sounds like exactly the kind of book I love to read. I’m not interested in more watered down platitudes. I can find those anywhere. I like to read real ideas.

  11. Mandee

Hmmm I have no idea who we are talking about here. Am I living under a rock? lol I’ll keep my eye out for your thoughts on the book though!

  12. Lia World Traveler

I am not a fan of his, he always comes off as intentionally provocative and a s*it stirrer without the substance to back it up…. I do LOVE Angela Rye though and if she was willing to partner with him makes me think there may be more to the man.

    • MimiCuteLips

Lia that is an excellent observation. She doesn’t take any type of mess. She is able to see in him what a lot of us can’t. That is why I really want to read the book.

  13. Marcie W.

While I may not always agree with him, I enjoy listening to Charlamagne on The Breakfast Club. I am sure his book gives us a good look at the man behind the persona.

  14. Joely Smith

Oh I just LOVE a great Swag bag! Looks like you got some awesome items in yours! The fact alone that you got the book for free is awesome! I love how empowering this is and it’s true we ALL make our own path in life.

  15. Jennifer Van Huss

That sounds hilarious!! I have never heard of him before, but with a tag line like “pissing people off” I can see how it would be funny!!

  16. Pam

I have heard of him but I don’t know much about him. Guess I need to read his book to find out more about the “god of pissing people off.”

  17. Dogvills

Lol on pissing people off. This sounds like a great read and I’m curious about the mambo sauce.

  18. Karissa @WithOurBest (@withourbest)

Aww bummer your photo turned out blurry! That’s what happens when you let other people take the photos! LOL

  19. ricci

You always go to the coolest events!! I would not be as calm as you are at half of these things, HAHAHA!!

  20. Jeni Hawkins

I love listening to the radio show in the morning with them. They touch on some touchy subjects but are always real.

  21. Nancy L.

I get a chuckle because I am the complete opposite of trying to piss people off. I go out of my way to try and make everybody happy. lol It looks like you had a great time. I recognize Dr. Dyson from CNN! They have him on as a guest quite frequently.

  22. Amanda

Now this sounds like an interesting book. I always try to tackle what is listed on the NY Times Bestseller list but there just isn’t enough time in the day!

  23. uprunforlife

This sounds like an interesting book. I will have to check it out further. You received some fun samples, I hope that you enjoy them.

  24. TIm B

Angela Rye is a class act. Thank goodness for NPR being there to provide honest opinions on what is going on in the realm of politics.

  25. Eloise

sometimes the way to truly FEEL heard is to say it in a way that pisses people off! It gets a reaction out of people which causes the word to spread all over and gets everyone to talk about tough issues. I bet everyone that has read this post is intrigued and will most likely take a look at this book ; )

    • MimiCuteLips

He totally says what people are afraid to say or maybe shouldn’t say. The why behind it is what matters I think.

  26. Louise Bishop

It sounds like it was an awesome time. I would love to read that book.

  27. Kathy

I honestly was not sure who this was when I read this. This does sound like a good book though. Sad to see many not liking him, but I can’t say anything as I didn’t even know who he is.

  28. Lisa Heath

I haven’t heard of him before, and never caught his talk show – but I am interested in reading the book. I do love his tag line, and I tend to gravitate towards books that will broaden my perspective. I look forward to hearing more of your thoughts on it.

  29. Lynndee

That sounds like an interesting book. And he is a political analyst, huh? I bet my husband would find this book very interesting as well.

  30. Pump

I’m a fan of his and would be interested in reading this book. You can’t really get too far without a bold personality and a bit of controversy, so he is winning in my book.

  31. Carol Cassara

It’s awesome that the book is so successful. I think it’s a good book to read especially during these times. It’s definitely something that I would like to read.

  32. soumya

Sounds like a really good book i thought.
