Thrills by Day and Fright by Night #FrightFest

Hey Cuties,

We are about two weeks out from Halloween. I’ve not even started on my daughter’s costume yet. #Fail My son is at the age where a costume is no longer a thing. I’m okay with that. Although he isn’t dressing up in costumes he still enjoys the thrill of Halloween. Our favorite friends over at Six Flags invited us for a complimentary day of Halloween fun at Fright Fest last weekend. Thrills by Day was all about kid-friendly fun and at six in the evening, things got freaky. By freaky, I mean Fright by Night took over and I was afraid. Full Disclosure: I don’t like to be scared, my kids already know don’t jump out on me. I’m not responsible for my reaction.

Welcome to Six Flags Fright Fest

Nothing says welcome to #FrightFest like an empty coffin photo op. Look at LittleCuteLips, her facial expression is priceless.  She was such a trooper.

LittleCuteLips – Man-Child – Niece

My crew for the day included these three and Babe. I didn’t tell them where we were going because obnoxious and annoying.  I knew they would be thrilled once they saw the Six Flags sign.

Photo Opp with Rosie & Mummy

My LittleCuteLips was having no parts of these characters and I don’t force her.

Six Flags started out day off with lunch inside of Johnny Rockets. The kids each received Trick or Treat bags with candy already in it. Then we lunched on chicken tenders, BBQ, hot dogs, fruit and dessert.

Hay Ride

Once we finished eating the kids were ready to get out and have some fun. I had a 4-year-old, 10-year-old and 11-year-old. So we had to balance activities for both age groups.  We started out with a Trick or Treat Trail; you had to be 12 and under to get in and everything was rated G and it wasn’t even dark. Do you think that mattered to my LittleCuteLips? Nope! She still managed to turn the place out. I mean O-U-T. My daughter is the type of kid that you have to talk to a lot. Not in a bad way, but I have to let her know what is going on and remind her that she is safe and I won’t force her to do anything that will harm her or scare/scar her. After screaming and crying GET ME OUT OF HERE Dad and I were able to calm her down and show her that she could do it. I was proud to see her wipe her tears and walk in like a boss that formerly lost her ish. After all of that, she jumped right on the Little Monsters Kiddie Hayride for obvious fun via a tractor pull.

Daffy & Bugs Bunny

Babe had to put something in the car so he missed our photo. I won’t tell you that my LittleCuteLips cried and I had to calm her down and talk her into this picture. Look at the way she is side-eyeing Daffy, clearly he can’t be trusted.

Up Up & Away

The big kids got in on some little kid fun while waiting their turn for big kid rides. Noah joined in on the fun, he is a riot. He is the handsome cutie of Fatima over at Off the Potomac.

Ragin Cajun

As it turns out my niece is a total thrill seeker when it comes to amusement parks.  She is an experienced coaster rider; however, the Man-Child is not. She talked him into riding the Ragin Cajun which was a good first-time coaster for him. They both enjoyed it without it being too much for him.

They would later get on the Wild one which is a wooden coaster with 2,330 feet of severe inclines and declines. When he got off he said “Mom, I need a hug.” hahahaha It will be hard pressed to get him on another coaster.

Looney Tunes Prop Warehouse

We easily spent about 20 to 30 minutes in here.

Looney Tunes Prop Warehouse

My daughter had a ball climbing in this thing.

The Looney Tunes Prop Warehouse was perfect for the kids. All of them had a blast and Babe and I even got in on the action with them.

A bit of Science going on

I love when they toss in a bit of educational play into the mix.  The warehouse had a lot of different things going on. We had to drag them out or we wouldn’t get to experience the rest of the park.

Mi & Babe

We took so many pictures of the kids we had to make sure we got a picture into the mix. Behind us was a pumpkin maze LittleCuteLips had to navigate to get her freedom.

We had to divide and concur so we could maximize our time and not bore the kids. Babe took the little one and I took the big kids.

Family Train Ride

We came back together to take this train ride around the park. This is my kind of amusement.

Cast Member of Legend of the West: A Stunt Spectacular and the kids

We followed that up with the Legend of the West: A Stunt Spectacular show. It was funny, and the kids really enjoyed it. The infused some current day references that really had the kids laughing out loud.

A bit of Fright by Night During the Day

This dude was good, the kids were watching him like a hawk and he didn’t move or blink. Babe and I had a blast with the kids then dropped them off to their grands so we could “enjoy” Fright by Night.

Toxic huh?

When the sun goes down Six Flags America had six terrifying haunted attractions, four new horrific shows and four scare zones packed with roaming zombies, blood thirsty cowboys, crazed clowns and so much more!

These are the only two pictures I captured at a night. Why? Because I was busy trying to keep my heart inside my damn chest. LOOK!!! I am a big chicken; I am not cut out for the haunted house life. I allowed Babe to talk me into 3 Haunted Houses. I tried to drag him out of one after we had entered and I freaked out; he wasn’t having it. I let him experience the fourth one on his own. He didn’t need me screaming every second and pulling on him. Apparently he missed me though. Yeah well.

I’m noticing a pattern with Six Flags, first I lost my soul on the Superman Ride of Steel VR Coaster, and now this. They obviously want me on pressure medication. Despite all of that we all had a great time. I look forward to coming back for the Holiday Experience.

My kids always loved Six Flags when they were growing up. We never were there for Fright Fest, but it sure looks like fun – in a scary sort of way. Who can resist a hayride this time of year?

  2. Jacqui @FlightsFancyMom

Looks like a blast! We have Frightland near us in Delaware. They have a lot of fun things to do as well :). Thanks for sharing!

  3. Shirley Wood

It looks like you and your family had such a fun day. I am also not a fan of spooky or frightening, don’t want anything jumping out at me. The train ride is about my speed too!

  4. lisa

I love Great America! I haven’t been to Fright Fest in ages and I would love to take my kids when they get a little older!

    • MimiCuteLips

Lisa, Fright by Night is certainly for the older kids. Although I saw some younger kids out having a good time. I want to be like them when I grow up.

  5. Jeanette

I have not been to Six Flags in so many years, it’s change so much since I’ve been there. Looks like a fun time right now with Halloween decorations up everywhere.

    • MimiCuteLips

A fun time for sure, the older I get Jeanette the less I visit amusement parks. Now that my kids are getting older all of that is changing.

  6. Pam

It sounds like here was tons to do for the whole family. Kids can enjoy Fright by Day and the adults or older kids can enjoy Fright by Night.

  7. Rebecca Swenor

Fright Fest sounds like a lot of fun for everyone. I would love to check it out at night even though I am a chicken. It looks like you all had a fun time. Thanks for sharing your experience.

  8. Sarah

This is awesome! I love the idea of going somewhere to attend a Fright Fest, perfect for this time of year to celebrate Halloween!

  9. Maureen @Scoops of Joy

Ooooh looks like so much fun! I’m sure my boy would totally love this place. We don’t have Six Flags here, bummer lol but I love seeing your photos.

  11. Teresa

Six Flags always puts on such a great celebration during Halloween. I just wish we lived closer to a Six Flags in our area. Glad to hear you all had a great time

  12. Aisha Kristine Chong

Ohh, seems like you guys had so much fun. I kind of wish we do celebrate Halloween too – doesn’t really happen on our country so much – but seems so much fun! Hopefully, next time we can prepare for one ourselves.

  13. Chrishelle

This looks like so much fun. I have never been to Six Flags during their Frightfest. It looks like so much fun. I need to take my crew to the ATL Six Flags soon.

  14. ricci

I’m headed to a haunted house next weekend, and I can’t wait! LOVE this post and it makes me excited now!

  16. Ayanna

It looks like you all had a ball. When my girls get a little older, we’ll have to try Six Flags for Halloween.

  17. Michelle Malone

Looks like you all had a blast! Great post…I feel as if you just took me on a guided tour.

  18. CJ from Thirty30Courtney

First, I think your reasons for not telling the kids where you were going was hilarious and spot on. I have students so I understand. I also agree with your sentiments about popping up and scaring me (aka touching me). I will fight you and I don’t do clowns, so pretty much haunted houses are a no-no for me. Your day looked awesome (and exhausting) but I’m sure it’s a memory the kids will appreciate.

  19. Anitra | The Mom on the Move

I’m not one for haunted houses either, but I love thrill rides. I don’t think I’d come back for the back for the fright.

  20. KenyaRae

I love that you continue to try things even after having not so nice previous experiences. You truly go out and live! Glad you guys had a good time.

  21. Kim

I do not have it in me to do fright night, but this looks fun… and scary lol

  22. Christina Aliperti

It looks like everyone had a great time. I am sure you and babe were exhausted by the end! I love your hoody.

  23. Kiwi

They have Fright Fest here in Atlanta too and did the media review and I didnt get an invite lol! I am scary anyways I dont like rides anymore but I see how this can be family friendly. Great review with your fam Mimi!

  24. Elle

Looks like you all had a blast. I love how the park changes with the seasons. What a great place to spend the day with your entire family.

  25. Jennifer

I love your photos on this post! Okay, I can handle the Thrills by Day, but Fright by Night might be a little too spooky for me. Lol! The Six Flags Halloween event looks like it was a lot of fun for your family! My 14 year old would definitely love this event because she’s into scary things.

  26. LeShelle, host of MRTV

No. No. No. and No. I would have lost my mind granted I know these things are not real and they are just people in costumes. The answer is still no. LOL

  27. Joanna

Looks like such a fun day! Haven’t gone to fright fest before. I need to try it one year.

  28. CourtneyLynne
